Jessica walked into Charmaine’s office and found her sitting on the ground starring at nothing. She shut the door behind and her and up to Charmaine, “What’s wrong?” she asked very concerned.
Charmaine just sat there in shock and in disbelief. She shook her head and started mumbling to herself, “It’s my fault… it’s because of me…”
Jessica was seriously getting worried seeing her sister like this, “Tell me what’s going on?”
Charmaine turned facing Jessica and suddenly just burst into tears. She reached over and hugged Jessica tightly. Jessica had never seen Charmaine like this before, seeing Charmaine crying scared Jessica to bits knowing something serious must have happened to her sister.
Charmaine hugged Jessica tighter and sobbed, “It’s because of me he was in a car accident… It’s because of me he was in a coma,” more tears flew down her cheek as she cried harder, “It’s because of me he lost his memory.”
Jessica was confused to what Charmaine was talking about, “Are you talking about Raymond Lam? I thought he broke up with you when I was overseas?”
Charmaine let go of Jessica, “It’s my fault, if I didn’t tell him I was leaving he wouldn’t of come. If he didn’t come he wouldn’t have got hit by a car. It’s my fault!”
“Don’t think that… It’s not your fault,” Jessica comforted Charmaine.
“How is it not my fault? He came to the airport looking for me. First it was Linda and now its Raymond. I can’t be close to anyone,” Charmaine cried.
Jessica grabbed Charmaine by the shoulders, “Look at me. How can you still be blaming yourself, Linda’s death was not your fault, you’re not the only one who has responsibility. She is also mine and Tavia’s younger sister.”
“What about Raymond then?”
“You can’t blame yourself for everything,” Jessica said calmly.
Charmaine wiped her tears from her eyes, “How can i not? Linda is our younger sister but she's no longer here. Raymond is the man I love and look where that got him.”
Jessica patted Charmaine on the head, “Do you want to go home?”
Charmaine shook her head, “I can cope.”
“Just rest for a while, if you want to go home just tell me.”
*Tower Food Court, 1:54pm*
Moses sat by himself eating very slowly, he looked at his watch, “only few minutes left.”
“Hey bro,” Ron said while pulling out the chair opposite Moses.
“What are you doing here?” Moses asked Ron.
Ron grabbed some chips off Moses plate, “Shopping. Why are you sitting by yourself? How’s your first day?”
“Don’t ask… I don’t want to talk about it,” Moses took a bite of his sandwich and saw Jessica walking towards him from a distance with a plate of food.
“Mind if I join?” Jessica asked putting her plate down next to Ron.
Moses was about to say something but Ron interrupted, “Not at all,” he said pulling the chair out for her.
“Thanks,” Jessica sat down next to Ron, “So are you two really brothers?” Jessica asked out of the blue.
Moses looked up at Jessica thinking what a random question to ask.
“Doesn’t look like it right?” Ron answered, “We get that a lot.”
“Yeh, if I saw you two on the street I would never think that you are brothers, your so different.”
Ron laughed, “Every time I tell people that we are brothers, people always seem to get a shock. Which I don’t blame them, look at him, he’s like a brick that doesn’t talk. But it’s a good thing, lets me do all the talking, right brother?” Ron patted Moses on the arm.
Moses looked up at the both of them chatting away.
“My type of person,” Jessica said while she dug into her food.
Ron’s phone began to ring, “Hello… What do you mean you can’t come? Who’s going to be my partner then? Fine… ok bye.”
“What’ wrong?” Jessica asked.
“I was going to go rock climbing but my friend decided her didn’t want to go so now I have no partner.”
“I love rock climbing, if you don’t mind I can be your partner,” Jessica suggested.
Ron was so happy to hear the great news, “That’s great. It’s this weekend, come by my house and we’ll organise everything.”
Moses almost spat out his drink hearing Jessica was going to his house. He thought that he could get the weekend away from her but little did he expect his younger brother to invite her over.
Jessica finished her food, “I’m going to go back up now, I’ll call you then,” she said to Ron and left.
Moses glared at Ron for a long time.
“What?” Ron asked confused to why Moses was looking at him that way.
“You’ve got to be kidding me right?”
“What?” Ron asked again still not knowing what’s going on.
Moses shook his head and continued eating, “Nothing…”
*Tower General Manager’s Office, 2:18pm*
Jessica walked into her room to find Kevin sitting on the couch waiting for her, “Your back,” Kevin stood up.
“What a pleasant surprise, so nice of you to visit me,” Jessica said with a hint of sarcasm, “What do you want Kev?”
Kevin gave a cheeky grin, “Nothing, I was just wondering what your sister likes to eat?”
“Which sister?”
“How many sisters do you have that I know?” Kevin asked.
Jessica thought for a while, “Well you know both my sister.”
Kevin crossed his arms and gave Jessica a look, “I think you know which one I’m referring to.”
Jessica knew he was talking about Charmaine but decided to play stupid and pretend to not know, “Well Tavia likes eating Sushi, I also know that Tavia likes…”
Kevin interrupted her, “Jess… I’m talking about your other sister.”
Jessica moved really close to Kevin, “Are you talking about Charmaine?”
“Yes I am, I’m taking her out to dinner tonight.”
“Really?” Jessica was surprised Charmaine would say yes. She thought about what happened to Charmaine just then and didn’t know whether it would be a good idea for her and Kevin to have dinner but then she thought about it more, going on this dinner date can get her mind off of things.
“Jess?” Kevin tapped her on the shoulder, “So are you going to tell me?”
“Gees Kevin, I’m not going to tell you what my sister likes, you have to figure it out on your own.”
“Isn’t it easier if you just tell me?” Kevin asked.
“Yes it would be easier, but I don’t want to do that,” Jessica laughed.
Kevin shrugged his shoulders and walked to the door, he turned back to Jessica, “I pay for your salary, you know that right?” he joked.
“Yeh I know,” Jessica laughed.
*Tower Shopping Centre, 5:30pm*
Raymond grabbed his bag and walked out into the shopping centre ready to leave. He rubbed his head as he still felt a little pain in his head. He kept thinking about the flashes in his head, the feelings were so real and he defiantly knew it had something to do with Charmaine.
Raymond walked outside, from the corner of his eye he saw Charmaine getting into Jessica’s car. Raymond didn’t think twice and jumped down from the steps and ran in front of Jessica’s car making her jam on her brakes.
Charmaine and Raymond starred into each others eyes, both could tell that there are many questions to be answered. Charmaine looked away not being able to face Raymond.
Raymond ran to the passenger side of the car, “I need to ask you something.”
Jessica looked at Charmaine and widened her eyes. Charmaine knew exactly what Jessica wanted to ask and nodded her head a little.
“I need to ask you something,” Raymond said again.
Heartbroken, Charmaine didn’t know how to face Raymond knowing it was because of her he ended losing his memory. She took a deep breath and turned around facing him.
Raymond’s heart was pumping so fast he could hardly breathe, “Are you Charmaine?”
“No.”
