Charmaine handed Kevin the file that Jessica marked as confidential.
Kevin took the file and flipped through it, “What’s this?”
“My sister said it’s important,” Charmaine replied while taking her jacket off.
Kevin shook his head and laughed, “Jess is a funny one,” he showed Charmaine what was inside the files, “blank pieces of paper barely counts as important, unless I wanted to print something on it.”
Charmaine knew immediately she had been fooled, “She’s going down when I get back,” she muttered to herself.
“Huh?”
“Nothing…” Charmaine took a sip of water and sat there not really knowing what to say, “um… about me saying all those things to you about Tower being a bad place, I was just joking,” she smiled uneasily hoping Kevin would believe her.
“What about the things you said about me?”
Charmaine let out a little fake laugh, “Ha… I… ummm…”
Kevin leaned back on his chair, “I remember you saying something like how I was useless, incompetent, something along the lines of having too high standards and not letting people use the bathroom.”
“I don’t remember calling you incompetent,” Charmaine said trying to defend herself.
“Well useless and incompetent mean pretty much the same thing,” Kevin moved closer to Charmaine, “Do you know why I asked you to have dinner with me?”
“Because my sister wanted to give you the pieces of blank paper?” Charmaine asked feeling quite awkward.
Kevin laughed and backed away from Charmaine, “Tower is fashioning a motor show so I want your opinion of how I should go about this exhibition.”
Charmaine breathed in relief, “Is that all? I thought you were going to do something crazy because I bad mouthed you to you.”
“You really think I’m that stingy?”
“I don’t know, I just thought top shot CEO out for revenge against poor little employee,” Charmaine said again not realising she just bad mouthed Kevin again and this time he was right in front of her, she looked up at him and gave a cheesy grin, “I’m going to go to the restroom…”
Kevin watched as Charmaine walked in the direction of the restroom, he smiled to himself knowing there was something about her that was just so captivating. He was now determined to use all means to get Charmaine.

*Kingswood Apartment, 39C 10:26pm*
Tavia walked back into the apartment and browsed around to see if Charmaine and Raymond were here. Jessica walked out of her room and ignored Tavia as she went into the kitchen.
“Where’s Yi Ga Jie?” Tavia asked.
“So now you’re talking to me?” Jessica said looking into the fridge, “she’s still out with Kevin.”
“Kevin?” Tavia thought it was strange that she would still go out with Kevin after seeing Raymond.
Jessica’s phone started ringing, “Hello? Ron… I was meaning to call you.”
Tavia heard Ron’s name and walked to the kitchen pretending to get something to drink.
“Hey, just wondering what time you want to come over on the Saturday?” Ron asked on the other side of the phone.
“I think in the morning, I have a feeling we have a lot of things to organise,” Jessica suggested.
Tavia moved closer to Jessica trying to see if she could hear Ron on the other side.
“How about 7am?” Ron asked.
“Sounds great, see you then,” Jessica hung up the phone and turned around to see Tavia standing really close to her, “What are you doing?”
Tavia quickly backed away, ”Who was that?”
Jessica sat on the couch, “Since when did you become interested in my personal life?”
“Who said that I was interested?”
“Well I was talking to your boss Ron, I’m going out with him this Saturday,” Jessica said switching the channel, “Why are you so nosy? Can’t I be friends with people you know?”
Tavia rolled her eyes and walked into her room without answering Jessica’s question.

*Outside Kingswood Apartment, 10:45pm*
Raymond was sitting on the kerb across from Charmaine’s apartment waiting for her to come back. He had been waiting for hours and even though the night was getting colder by each second he wasn’t planning on leaving until he saw Charmaine.
A few minutes later a Mercedes Benz pulled up on the other side of the road. Raymond stood up, although he couldn’t hear what they were saying but it seemed like they had a good time.
Charmaine unbuckled her seatbelt, “Thanks for dinner.”
“Don’t thank me, I’m taking this out of your pay,” Kevin joked.
Raymond saw the both of them laughing.
“I’ll walk you upstairs because you never know if crazy people will just pop out of no where,” Kevin insisted.
“It’s alright. I don’t want you to charge me on that too,” Charmaine got out of the car, “bye.”
Kevin waved goodbye and drove off. Charmaine’s smile was immediately wiped off after Kevin’s car left; she glanced up at the sky filled with stars then the smile appeared back on her face. Raymond saw that she was about to walk back into the apartment building and without thinking he ran across the road.
“Charmaine!” he called out loud.
Without hesitation Charmaine turned around to see Raymond standing opposite her. She quickly turned back around and wanted to walk away but Raymond ran in front of her and stopped her.
“I know you’re Charmaine.”
Charmaine avoided eye contact with Raymond, “I’m not Charmaine.”
“I know you are and I know why you’re avoiding me,” Raymond grabbed onto Charmaine’s hand.
Charmaine tried to swing his hand off, “I’m not Charmaine,” she repeated.
Raymond held onto Charmaine’s hand tightly, “I know you blame yourself for my memory loss but it’s not fault.”
Charmaine swung Raymond’s hand off, “How isn’t it my fault? You came to the airport to find me. If you didn’t come, non of this would have happened.”
“Non of that matters anymore. Although i don't remember much but all I know now is that my feelings for you haven’t changed.”
Charmaine held back her tears, “I can’t… Being with me will just end in tragedy,” Charmaine looked Raymond in the eyes, “I can’t…” and walked pass him towards the apartment building.
Raymond turned around and embraced Charmaine from behind hugging her tightly in his arms, “I don’t care about any tragedy that will happen to me, all I know and all I can feel right now is that I love you.”
Uncontrollably tears flowed down from Charmaine’s eyes, she knew that if she was to be with Raymond he would probably end up getting hurt again and she didn’t want to take those chances, “I can’t be with you.” She released herself from Raymond’s embrace and continued walking towards the apartment building.
Raymond ripped the necklace with the engagement ring off his neck, “Do you remember this?” he shouted out.
Charmaine turned around and saw Raymond holding up the ring, she thought she would never see the ring again, “You still have it?”
Raymond walked up to Charmaine, “I don’t know how I got it, all I know was that when I woke up from my coma the doctor said I have been holding onto this ring during the accident so he kept it for me,” he held onto Charmaine’s hand again, “I had a flash before, it was of me breaking up with you and you threw this ring back at me. I don’t remember why I broke up with you but I know it felt painful. If I can’t find the past then forget it. All I want to do is create a new future with you. I don’t want to loose you ever again.”
Raymond’s words had melted in Charmaine’s heart, she wanted to give in but she couldn’t. She could see the determination in his eyes, once again she released herself from Raymond’s grasp, “Sorry.” Charmaine turned back around and entered the apartment building.
Raymond was devastated and heartbroken, he knew exactly why she didn’t want to be with him not because she didn’t love him, it is because she still thinks them two being together will lead to Raymond getting hurt again. Raymond looked at the ring, “I’m not giving up on you…”
