Chapter 28

"Maybe this can be a new start for Charmaine..."

*Tower General Managers Office, 1:49pm*

Jessica was on the phone as she walked back into her office from lunch, “Do you know where else I can buy that figurine? It’s really important to me… That’s alright then,” Jessica hung up the phone and sat at her desk. Placed in front of her computer was a gift bad, curious Jessica looked inside. She took out the little box and opened it up. It was the crystal figurine that she had been looking for.

Jessica jumped up from her chair and walked outside, “Who went into my room today?” she asked her secretary.

“I think Moses was in there earlier.”

Jessica wondered back into her room, she sat back on her chair and remembered seeing Moses the other day at the store, “Did he buy this for me?” she took out the figurine and placed it on her desk, “Is he doing this to trying to get to Tavia?”

Moses walked inside Jessica’s office, “Hey,” he saw the figurine placed on the desk and smiled.

“Did you get this for me?” Jessica asked holding it up.

“Yeh, is that the wrong one?”

Jessica shook her head, “Are you doing anything tomorrow night?”

Moses thought for a while, “No.”

“Would you like to have dinner?” Jessica asked.

Usually Moses would decline such an offer made by Jessica but he actually wanted to go this time, “Sure, I’ll see you later then,” then walked back outside.

Jessica quickly called Ron, “Hey, I already asked your brother to dinner, all you have to do is get Tavia.”

*Tower Shopping Centre, 10:30pm*

Kevin walked out of the elevator into the main display area of the shopping centre to check on the motor exhibition, which was going to start tomorrow. He browsed around and everything seemed to be alright but not perfect, “These people can’t even do things right.”

Kevin took his suit jacket off and rolled up his sleeves and started rearranging the signs and some of the displays making it close to perfection in his eyes. Charmaine walked out of the elevator, she had been working non-stop the whole day, it seemed to be the only way she could not think about Raymond. She saw Kevin moving signs around and walked up to him.

“Need some help?” she asked.

Kevin looked up and smiled seeing Charmaine, “help would be great.”

Charmaine helped him move a sign to the other side “Didn’t actually think that a CEO like you would be here moving signs.”

“Well no one can do it right, I might as well do their part too,” Kevin placed the sign down, “Why are you here so late?”

“I’m slow in my work,” Charmaine replied with a lie.

“You know the company won’t be paying you overtime,” Kevin joked.

Charmaine laughed a little, something she hadn’t done for the past few weeks. Raymond had finished his shift, he came out of the security department and saw Charmaine and Kevin talking and laughing. He hid behind a sign and watched her from a distance.

Charmaine walked towards the stage area but didn’t see the cords on the floor and tripped over them slicing her knee on a piece of metal. Raymond was about to run out to see if she was alright but he stopped himself.

Kevin saw and quickly ran towards Charmaine, he held onto and sat her down on the stage and grabbed a tissue from his pocket, “You’re bleeding.”

“It’s just a little cut.”

“Hold on,” he opened up his suitcase and grabbed a bandaid and placed it on her knee, “This way it won’t get infected.”

“Thanks,” Charmaine turned her head to Raymond’s direction.

Raymond saw that she was looking his way; he stopped hiding and walked out into the open area. He walked straight pass Charmaine without even looking at her. She watched as he walked pass her, her heart had sunk right to the bottom, it was as if he didn’t even know her.

Kevin sat next to Charmaine on the stage and saw Raymond walking out of the shopping centre, “Isn’t that your boyfriend?” he asked pretending he had no idea what was going on.

Charmaine didn’t reply, the both of them sat in silence. She couldn’t hold it in anymore, a silent tear dropped from her eye. Kevin turned his head seeing Charmaine tearing, he grabbed another tissue and gave it to her. Charmaine couldn’t control the tears coming from her eyes, she turned to Kevin who was still holding onto the tissue, “It’s alright,” Kevin said trying to comfort her.

Charmaine broke down and sobbed hard, she leaned her head on Kevin’s shoulder and continued to weep thinking about Raymond, “He broke up with me.”

Kevin actually felt heart broken seeing her like this, he put his hand around her shoulder, “It’s alright,” he repeated.

Raymond was outside the shopping centre and could see everything clearly. It was killing him inside seeing Charmaine cry, he felt his eyes watering up but he quickly wiped them dry. He saw the way Kevin cared for her, Raymond could see the look in Kevin’s eyes and knew the way Kevin felt about Charmaine was more than just a friend. He knew at least when he died and is no longer around that Charmaine would have Kevin.

*Cheng Mansion, 12:14am*

Kevin came home after dropping Charmaine at her apartment. Myolie had walked out of the kitchen with a glass of water and saw Kevin with a gleeful look to his face.

“You look happy.”

Kevin smiled at Myolie, “I am indeed.”

“Why are you so happy? Myolie asked curiously, “You were out with a girl right?”

“Maybe,” Kevin headed upstairs, “Go to sleep,” Kevin walked into his room and sat on his bed. He knew that he was a step closer to Charmaine and with Raymond out of the picture everything would be much easier. He lay on his bed and thought about what happened at Tower, before today the main reason he wanted to get with Charmaine was because he didn’t want to loose to Raymond but when Charmaine cried on his shoulder he felt something different, a genuine feeling that he really was beginning to fall deeply for her.

*Tower Shopping Centre, 12:42pm*

It was the first day of the motor show exhibition and it was defiantly a success. From the surface it was obvious that it attracted a large quantity of people. Kevin stood at the top level seeing down at the exhibition, he was very impressed with the outcome so far. Charmaine got out of the elevator and saw Kevin standing by the railing watching.

“Congratulations,” Charmaine said standing next to him, “Looks perfect.”

Kevin stood upright, “Thanks to you for helping me last night,” he looked at her eyes, they were still a little red from the crying, “Are you feeling better?”

Charmaine put her hands on the railing and looked down at the exhibition, she shrugged her shoulders, “I really don’t know.”

Kevin copied Charmaine grasping the railing, “If you need anyone to talk to, I’m your man.”

“Is this going to be charged through my salary?” Charmaine asked jokingly.

Kevin laughed, “It counts as a employee benefit, so technically I have to pay you.”

Charmaine turned to Kevin, “Thanks, you’re a really nice guy and not scary like I thought you were.”

Jessica and Moses returned back to Tower from there lunch break, for once they decided to eat outside the shopping centre because they were sick and tired of having the same food over and over again.

“Haven’t had a meal like that for a long time,” Jessica said starching her arms.

Moses chuckled, “Better than the food here.”

Jessica scanned around the exhibition area, “Going pretty well,” she said as she kept walking to the side of the stage area. From out of no where a little kid ran straight into her, she shifted to the side quickly but lost balance and almost fell over.

“You alright?” Moses asked as he quickly helped her gain balance.

Jessica smiled, “It’s nothing,” she continued walking but didn’t notice that the scarf she was wearing was caught on the side of the stage, but the time she noticed her scarf unravelled and half her scarf was gone. Jessica shook her head in disbelief, she retraced her scarf bits, “Cannot believe it, I love this scarf and look at it,” she showed Moses.

Moses took a careful look at the scarf, “Sorry.”

Jessica stamped her feet then walked towards the elevator mumbling angrily to herself. Moses took out his PDA and without Jessica knowing he noted down the colour, length and texture of the scarf.

The both of them waited by the elevator, Jessica looked up and saw Kevin and Charmaine talking quite happily to each other on the top floor. She suddenly had a thought in her mind, she remembered that Kevin had good feelings towards Charmaine, “Maybe this can be a new start for Charmaine,” she muttered to herself.
