Raymond could see that Charmaine had stopped moving in the elevator, “Why isn’t she moving?” he asked himself. He took a closer look and could see Charmaine having problems breathing.
Raymond checked which floor she was stuck at and with a swift movement he ran outside the control room.
Kenneth ran out following behind Raymond, “Where are you going?”
Raymond ran up the fire escape as fast as his legs could take him, he arrived on the twenty-eighth floor. He ran to the elevator and banged on the door, “Charmaine! Can you hear me?” he shouted.
Charmaine slowly opened her eyes a little, then closed them back up.
“Charmaine!” Raymond kept banging on the elevator door. With all his strength Raymond pulled open the elevator doors slightly. He peaked inside and saw Charmaine lying on the ground, “Charmaine!”
Charmaine didn’t budge but lay on the ground. Raymond was panicking, he knew she couldn’t be in enclosed spaces. The elevator was stuck between two levels and there wasn’t enough space for Raymond to get into the elevator. Raymond knew his only other option was to jump in from the top of the elevator.
Kenneth had finally caught up with Raymond, he saw Raymond run pass him, “Where are you going?” he asked running after him again.
“I’m jumping in the elevator from the top,” Raymond said.
Kenneth pulled him back, “It’s too dangerous, you can’t.”
Raymond swung Kenneth’s arm away, “I’ll be alright.” Raymond ran up a few more levels. He opened the door that lead to inside of the elevator shaft. Raymond looked down and saw that the elevator Charmaine as in wasn’t that far down, he grabbed onto the side and climbed down.
He finally reached the elevator and opened the trapped door on top of the elevator and jumped down landing next to Charmaine who was on the floor. Raymond sat her up leaning her against him, “Charmaine… Charmaine… wake up.”
Charmaine still didn’t move, Raymond held onto her tightly, he could feel himself tearing up, “Wake up, please…”
Charmaine could hear Raymond’s voice, she opened her eyes slightly and saw him holding to her, she didn’t know whether she was dreaming or not. Her vision had darkened again then passed out.
Raymond sat on the ground holding Charmaine in his arms. He missed this feeling. Moments later the elevator felt as if it was being pulled upwards and the doors opened. Kenneth was outside with a few fire brigades and paramedics waiting. Raymond picked Charmaine up and climbed out of the elevator. The paramedics put her on a stretcher, Raymond hold onto her hand the whole way to the hospital.

*Hospital, 12:29am*
Raymond sat beside Charmaine, still holding onto her hand. Tavia came rushing into the room.
“How is she?” she asked.
Raymond stood up, “Doctor said that she’s fine, she was just scared which led to her shortness of breath,” he turned around and looked at her, “I’m going to go now.”
“Why? If you go she won’t know that you saved her.”
“I can’t let her know that I care for her,” Raymond said.
Charmaine could hear muttering, she opened her eyes slightly and from her blurry vision she saw Raymond, her eyes became heavier then she fell back to sleep.
“Don’t tell her I was here,” Raymond patted Tavia on the shoulder then left.
Tavia really wanted to talk some sense into him, she didn’t want to see her sister and Raymond suffering from not being able to be with each other. Tavia knew that although Charmaine was with Kevin but she was hiding her feelings for Raymond. Tavia ran out after Raymond.
As Tavia ran out Kevin came running into Charmaine’s room. He sat beside her and held her hand, “Charmaine…”
Charmaine slowly opened her eyes and felt someone holding onto her hand, she looked up to see it was Kevin and not Raymond. She thought to herself that she must have been just dreaming.
Kevin sat her up, “Do you know worried I was?”
“Sorry.”
Kevin smiled, “Next time, where ever you go I will go as well, that way nothing like this will happen to you again.”
“Next time I just won’t use elevators,” Charmaine reached for some water.
Kevin stood up and poured Charmaine some water. Moses, Jessica and Ron came running into Charmaine’s room.
Jessica saw Charmaine and shook her head, “Hospitalised again…”
“It’s not my fault,” Charmaine took a sip of water.
Jessica walked up to Kevin, “Thanks for saving my sister.”
Charmaine held onto Kevin surprised, “You saved me?”
Kevin knew immediately it was Raymond who saved her, he didn’t answer her and smiled. He knew that if he didn’t get rid of Raymond that his relationship with Charmaine would one day break down.
*Outside the Hospital, 1:01am*
Tavia ran after Raymond, she stopped in front of him, “Raymond Lam you coward!”
Raymond was slightly confused to why Tavia called him that, “What?”
“Why can’t you just tell her how you really feel instead of doing all this stuff for her,” Tavia yelled at him.
“I’ve told you before, I’m going to die. I don’t want to give her hope then when I die it will all be taken away from her,” Raymond once again explained his actions to Tavia, “She’s got Kevin now. Plus if I tell her she will start to blame herself and think she caused my tumour.”
“How do you know she will think that?”
“You know just as well as I do that she will think that,” Raymond was sure that Charmaine would think that.
“Maybe she will think that, but maybe she would want to stay by your side during the last few days to live. I know my sister very well, at a time like this she wouldn’t leave you,” Tavia was almost certain with her words, “Let me ask you something. If Yi Ga Jie was about to die would you want to spend the remaining days with her?”
Raymond didn’t answer he but he knew that he would want to be with her the whole journey.
Tavia pushed Raymond towards the entrance, “Go and tell her the reason why you broke up.”
“I’m not going to do it,” Raymond turned around and left. He walked out of the hospital grounds and stopped. He thought about what Tavia had said to him, she had a valid point. He took the engagement ring off of his necklace and ran back into the hospital.
Raymond walked closer to Charmaine’s door, he took a deep breath and was about to open the door but he stopped as he looked inside. He saw Charmaine and Kevin together, she was laughing and happy with him. Raymond didn’t want to ruin what Charmaine had. He put his ring in his pocket and turned around leaving the hospital.
“It’s so late, go home and sleep,” Charmaine insisted, as she pulled him up off the bed.
“Let me stay,” Kevin didn’t move and kept sitting, “I’m not tired.”
Charmaine tried pulling him up, “Go and sleep or you won’t have an energy for work tomorrow.”
Kevin didn’t move again, he held onto Charmaine’s hand and pulled her down on the bed, “I will.”
Charmaine put on an angry face, “Go home or I will get angry and won’t talk to you.”
“Fine,” Kevin got up and put his coat on.
Charmaine walked him to the door, “Drive safe.”
Kevin kissed Charmaine goodbye and left. Charmaine watched as Kevin turned the corner, as she turned around to walk back into her room she stepped on something. She bent down and picked it up, she looked carefully and realised that it was the engagement ring that Raymond gave her.
