Chapter 59

"Do I trust her?"

*Cheng Mansion, 9:10am*

It had been a few weeks since Charmaine moved into Kevin mansion, she had not contacted any of her sisters and she also stopped receiving calls from Raymond. The only contact she had was with Ron, from there she found out that Raymond had not spoken to anyone and constantly locked himself in their room. Hearing this news felt so heart aching for Charmaine but she just didn’t know when she could gather evidence to prove Raymond innocent.

“I have a meeting later,” Kevin said as he took a bite of his breakfast, “So I can’t drive you to Tower but I’ll get someone to drop you off.”

“I’m actually not feeling well today,” Charmaine lied thinking this would be a good chance to look through Kevin’s study.

Kevin jumped up and felt Charmaine’s forehead, “Do you want to see a doctor? I’ll come with you.”

“It’s nothing, I’ll just get some rest.”

Kevin put his suit jacket on; “Call me if anything is wrong ok?”

Charmaine smiled and nodded her head, “Bye.”

Kevin grabbed his suitcase and left in a hurry. Charmaine walked towards the window and watched as Kevin’s car drove out onto the road. She immediately ran upstairs and grabbed the spare key in his room that unlocked the study and opened the study room door.

She didn’t know what she could find but she knew that everything important he kept in this room. Charmaine flipped through files hoping to find evidence that he was the one who paid Sammul for lying in court. She looked through his drawers and flipped through his chequebook too see if she find anything but there was nothing.

The study room door suddenly opened and Sunny stood at the door looking at Charmaine going through Kevin’s files. Charmaine stopped what she was doing and stood up. She was beginning to panic as Sunny walked closer to her; now that she was busted she didn’t know what to do next. Sunny closed the door and moved closer.

“I…” Charmaine knew that even explaining would be no use because Sunny being Kevin’s right hand man would tell him everything. She stepped back as Sunny moved closer.

Charmaine was shaking as Sunny stood next to her not saying anything but just staring at her. He suddenly heard footsteps coming towards the study room and saw the doorknob turning. Sunny grabbed Charmaine’s arm and pulled her down hiding under the desk, he looked at her and shook his head hinting for her to be quiet.

Kevin walked into the study and saw Sunny, “Here so early?”

Sunny walked over to Kevin and handed him a file, “I can get more work done. So what are you going to do about Paul Ching’s death?”

“Not going to do anything, Raymond is being accused so it doesn’t effect me,” Kevin said casually as he flipped through the papers.

“But you were the one who killed him,” Sunny said on purpose to let Charmaine hear.

Kevin laughed, “He deserved it,” he glanced at his watch, “I have to go,” and left the room.

Charmaine came out from under the desk, “Who are you?”

“Do you know what you’re doing? Do you know what your doing is very dangerous, if it wasn’t for me you would have been caught,” Sunny said not answering her question.

“Who exactly are you?” Charmaine asked again.

Sunny walked towards the window and watched as Kevin drove away, he turned back to Charmaine, “Let me guess, that cop Ron told you to come here?”

“How did you know?”

Sunny laughed a little, “That kid really is a smart one. All those clues I left behind actually had some use.”

“Who are you?” Charmaine asked for the third time.

“I’m an undercover police sent to infiltrate Tower and stay by Kevin’s side to investigate him. It’s been several years since I’ve worked for him, tough but its’ paid off since I gained his trust,” Sunny explained to Charmaine.

“Then do you know what happened with the Paul Ching case?” Charmaine asked hoping to get some answers.

Sunny sighed, “I’m sure of one thing and its that he killed Paul Ching.”

“Then how come you didn’t arrest him,” Charmaine was so intense.

“I couldn’t, I don’t have evidence because I wasn’t actually there. I only found out after I left the hospital. I knew Kevin did it so I left clues behind for Ron so he could follow it up.”

“So what do we do now?” Charmaine asked wanting Sunny to give her directions.

“Just try not to make him suspect you. We have to figure a way for him to confess or find evidence for all the bad he has done,” Sunny said, “Be careful, although Kevin does truly love you but if he finds out you betrayed him, he will hurt you.”

*Kingswood Apartment, 2:06pm*

Ron knocked on the door to Tavia’s apartment and waited. Moments later Tavia opened the door.

“What do you want?” Tavia was cold and bitter with her words.

“Sorry,” Ron said sincerely looking at Tavia.

“I thought I was the one who was wrong, why are you saying sorry,” Tavia said sarcastically as she walked back into the apartment.

Ron followed inside, “I know my tone of voice wasn’t that great the other day and I respect that you trust your instincts,” Ron held onto her hand, “I’m really sorry.”

Tavia didn’t say anything to him but inside she was jumping for joy.

Ron reached inside his pocket and took out a coin, “I’m going to flip this coin and if it’s heads you have to forgive me.”

Tavia crossed her arms, “Fine.”

Ron flipped the coin in the air and caught it as it came back down, he opened up his palm, “Heads,” he showed Tavia.

Tavia smiled and shook her head, “Fine, I forgive you then.”

Ron wrapped his arm around her, “I knew you would forgive me. Where’s Raymond?”

“In his room,” Tavia sighed, “I just can’t believe what that Yi Ga Jie did to him.”

Ron who knew what she was doing didn’t say anything, “I’ll go talk to him and see how he is doing,” Ron put the coin in his pocket but it accidentally dropped out.

Before he could pick it up Tavia had already bent down and picked it up, she looked at the coin then flipped it over to the other side realising there was two coins stuck together with both sides having heads. Ron quickly grabbed coin off her and smiled cheekily, “I’ll be in Raymond’s room.”

Ron knocked on the bedroom door and waited but there was no answer. He opened the door and walked inside, the room was dark, no blinds were open and Raymond was lying on the bed staring at the ceiling.

“How you feeling?” Ron asked.

Raymond didn’t answer and kept staring, by this time he had run out of tears to shed. The only image he had running through his head was of Charmaine swinging his arm away and going away with Kevin. What hurt him even more was that Charmaine didn’t trust him, he would of thought that all that they have been through would of gained a solid trust.

Ron hated seeing Raymond like this and he wasn’t able to do anything about it even if he knew the truth. Ron stood next to Raymond’s bed, “Things may not be what they look like on the surface Raymond. You have to trust her.”

Ron finished what he said and walked out of the room. Raymond kept lying on the bed, he thought about what Ron just said, “Do I trust her?” Raymond already knew the answer to that question.

*Cheng Mansion, 9:06pm*

Charmaine and Myolie sat on the lounge watching TV. The home phone started ringing and Myolie picked up, “Hello.”

Kevin was on the other side of the phone, “Hey sis, something has come up and I have to fly to China for a few days.”

“Ok,” Myolie answered as she flipped through a magazine.

“Get Charmaine on the phone.”

Myolie passed the phone to Charmaine, “Kevin?”

“Are you feeling better?” Kevin asked concerned.

Charmaine had only just remembered that she told Kevin she was feeling sick, “I’m better now.”

“I’m flying up to China for a few days, so I won’t be around. You have to take care of yourself.”

Charmaine thought this would be the best time to find evidence, “Call me when get there.”

“Bye,” Kevin hung up the phone, he was on his way to the airport then suddenly for got that he left his passport at home. He turned around and headed back to his mansion.

Myolie looked at her watch, “Well, I’m going out now,” and grabbed her bag leaving the mansion.

There was no one home beside for Charmaine; she found this to be the perfect time to infiltrate Kevin’s study again. She ran up stairs and walked into the study closing the door behind her. She stood there thinking where he could hide evidence, last time she and Sunny checked everywhere but still couldn’t find anything. The only place she didn’t check was his computer. She switched his computer on but it needed a password to log in.

Charmaine had no idea what his password would be, she thought hard and started typing in random words and combinations. She rang Sunny, “Hello Sunny. I’m in Kevin study, do you have any idea the password to computer is?”

Kevin opened the front door, “Charmaine!” he shouted out but there was no response, “She’s probably sleeping.”

Kevin walked upstairs and back into his room looking for his passport but it wasn’t in his drawer. The only other place he would put it is in the study.

Sunny gave Charmaine a few combinations which he thought would be the password, she typed them in but it didn’t work, “It’s not working.”

“Why don’t you try your own name,” Sunny suggested.

Charmaine typed in her name and it unlocked the computer, she actually thought it was somewhat creepy he used her name, “thanks…” She logged into the computer and browsed around the files and came to a file with accounts numbers and names one of which had Sammul’s and Paul Chings name.

Just as she clicked on the file Kevin opened the door to the study. Charmaine looked up at him, she was beginning to panic seeing Kevin. She stood up, “I…”

Kevin didn’t say anything but the look on his face gave it all away; he took step closer to Charmaine.
