[KENYA, AFRICA…]
Tavia opened her eyes to a bright new day. She took a look at the list she wrote down. Everyday she needed to write a list of what to do the next day or she would forget. Since she woke from her coma 3 months ago, she’s been living and working at The Mombasa Hospital in Kenya, Africa.
She had no idea she wasn’t ‘home’ because she was diagnosed with long term memory loss. However her short term memory was getting better by the day, slowly she could build a new long term memory. She could remember more things in a day than she did 3 months ago. She would usually forget things in a minute or so but now she could remember them for at least 20 minutes! That was major improvement!
Her doctor, Ayo who came from Kano (a city in the Republic of Nigeria) named her Sanjo, which in Yoruba (a dialect from the Republic of Nigeria) means ‘one who appreciates the past’ so God would pity her and grant her a memory of her past.
“Morning.” She said politely greeting everybody she pasted in the halls. She wasn’t sure if she met them before so if someone greeted or smiled at her she would do the same. At least she was able to remember her name was Sanjo because she constantly wore a name tag.
Ayo came up to her. “Sanjo, they need diapers in the maternity ward.” She said slowly so Tavia could write it down. That’s how Tavia needed to remember these things with her short term memory. “Ok.” Tavia responded as she looked through her notepad for directions to the supply room.
Ayo smiled at her. She really hopped Tavia would remember her past one day and find her way home, where ever that was. Nobody in the hospital knew where Tavia came from or who she was. Only thing they were sure of was that she must be of Chinese decent. Tavia spoke to them in British English but had a deep Chinese accent, so they suspected she was from Hong Kong.
Kali and Vai came up to Ayo. “I’ve gathered a collection from the other nurses and doctors. We have enough for a ticket to Hong Kong.” Kali said to Ayo showing her the money.
“Do you think it wise to send Sanjo to Hong Kong without anyone accompanying her? What if she can’t find her family?” Vai asked.
“I contacted a doctor friend, Anita Mui and informed her of Sanyo’s situation. She doesn’t mind taking Sanjo under her care for a while if it would help.” Ayo replied. The trio nodded.
“I hope Sanjo can remember her past. It’s hard to continue into the future when you don’t remember your past.” Kali said. Vai and Ayo nodded to agree. “When will she go?” Vai asked.
Ayo looked at the calendar, “Tomorrow.” Ayo replied. They all nodded.

[HONG KONG…] ONE WEEK LATER
Ekin and Nnadia were at a Triad meeting dividing the $500,000 profit of a major car scam they just took on. Nnadia counted the money and split it between the men. Each territory under Ekin got $50,000 while each charity got $15,000. Ekin and Nnadia only got $5,000 income for a heist that took one week. Not too bad considering they also had Nnadia’s income as a psychiatrist. “Here you go boys!” she said giving them their share of the money so they could split it for their followers and keep some themselves.
“It feels good to give some money to charity.” Michael said picking up the 50 grand for his territory.
“It’s rewarding.” Mak said. “Like we’re not bad criminals. Gives my morale a boost.” He said clumsily.
Michael playfully hit his head. “Ok Mak, no more kiss ups to Ah Suo (sister-in-law)!” he teased Mak.
Mak grinned and scratched his head as he picked up the 50 grand for his territory. Ekin and Nnadia laughed at him. He laughed also because he knew they were joking. Although a dorky type of guy, Evergreen Mak was always readily able and capable of defending his own. He wasn’t hostile but when he needed to be he was and without hesitation. He was one of the best fighters, which is how he became leader of his own territory.
“Don’t punk Mak! You started it first!” Jordan hissed at Michael as he picked up his loot. Michael glared at him. “What’s that mean?” Michael asked offensively. Jordon glared back at him. “You know what it means.” Jordan challenged him.
Nnadia playfully threw her purse between them. “Hey back off! I need to leave.” She said moving them aside. She knew they were playing around and left them to fend for themselves. Anyways she had to pack for Kenya.
Jordan bent down to pick up the purse for her. “Here Ah Suo. Watch your step.” He said caringly. Mak burst out laughing. “Look who’s kissing up now!” Mak joked. Michael and Jordan glared at him and nodded their heads. Mak’s eyes widened. “Shit.” He said knowing what was in store for him. They attacked him and played fought a little, nothing serious. Just light humor. They were good friends and very close buddies of Ekin.
Ekin put the three separate piles of charity money in three manila envelopes and handled one to each guy. “Here! Deliver them to a charity of your choice.” He instructed then followed Nnadia out. They guys nodded and each took an envelope.
“I’m giving mine to the cancer foundation.” Mak announced. Jordan and Michael chucked. Mak scratched his head. “How about you guys?” Michael didn’t hesitate to respond. “The orphanage.” Michael responded. Jordon grunted. “You always give it to the orphanage!” Jordan complained. Michael frowned. “Then who are you giving it to?” Michael challenged.
Jordon covered his mouth slightly. “The …” Jordan mumbled. Mak and Michael raised a brow in curiosity. “Who?” Michael and Mak asked for clarification. Jordan rolled his eyes at them. “The AIDS foundation!” he shouted at them. Mak & Michael playfully shoved him. “You always give it to the Aids foundation!” Mak and Michael yelled jokingly at him. The trio chuckled and laughed as they parted to deliver the money to the necessary organizations.
They really liked Nnadia’s management. She added a feminine touch that nobody else could have added. Although they were less ruthless and abide to more laws, they were still making money and a lot more content with themselves. She even had them and their followers in her office for therapy, helping them reconnect with friends, spouses, parents, and their children. So they were really fond of her.
=======================================
Ekin caught up with Nnadia. “Hey honey wait for me.” he said. “Where you rushing off to anyways?” he asked. She got into the car Daniel was driving. “I have to change some appointments at the office.” She said kissing him on the cheek. “I’ll meet you at home for dinner.” She replied.
“How am I supposed to get home?” he asked jokingly. She shook her head. “Don’t know. Walk. It’s good for you!” She replied driving away and blowing a kiss at him. He pretended to catch it and gave her a puppy dog look. She giggled as she watch his action and the car drove away.
She arrived at her office and rushed into the elevator to meet her client. She wasn’t late but she usually tried to be 15 minutes early for her appointments. At the moment, she was only 10 minutes early. “Hi, Leila.” she said greeting her receptionist. “Is Mr. Kong here yet?”
Leila nodded her head. “He was here a moment ago but he left for the restroom.” Leila replied.
Nnadia nodded. “Give me 5 minutes to get ready and I’ll call you to show him in.” she said.
Daniel walked over to Leila as Nnadia went in. “So how about a date tonight?” Daniel said flirting with her.
She lowered her head and giggled. “I thought you’d be busy with the other women you’ve got lined up.” Leila said smiling seductively. She didn’t know anything about him except he was Nnadia’s personal bodyguard hired by Ekin. She had wondered why Nnadia needed one but didn’t dare question her.
“If you’d give me a chance the other women can wait.” He said leaning closer to her. The two continued flirting with one another as a pair of eyes lured in the hall directly looking into the office.
“Ready?” Charlene asked. Christy nodded. “I’ve been more than ready. I’ve waited over 3 months for this day to revenge Stephen.” Christy replied. Charlene nodded. “Good.” She said smirking as they retreated into the emergency exit.
Back in the office… a man entered wearing a dark brown suit with glasses and an enormous instrument case. Daniel immediately got back up and eyed the man suspiciously. “Can I help you sire?” he asked suspiciously.
The man nodded. “I’m here for my appointment with my psychiatrist, Mrs. Nnadia Cheng.” He replied. “I’m Mr. Kong. She knows who I am.” He said pointing to Leila who nodded to agree. “He was here earlier.” She informed Daniel. He nodded then turned back to the man. “Please leave the box here.” He instructed.
“It’s not a box. It’s a bass case.” He emphasized as he walked in. Daniel stopped him. “I don’t care what it is, leave it out here!” he said pointing to the hall. Mr. Kong shook his head. “It’s a priceless antique. I will not leave it here!” he protested.
Daniel grabbed it from the man, “Leave it!” he shouted “NO!” Mr. Kong shouted back. They wrestled with the case for a while until the racket got loud enough for Nnadia to hear.
Nnadia opened the door. “What’s going on?” she asked. Daniel eyed the bass case. Nnadia smiled. “It’s ok.” She said “Just let him bring it in.” she instructed. Daniel wanted to protest but Nnadia was the boss so he could only stand guard outside.
Nnadia escorted Mr. Kong into her office and they sat down. She started her preliminary inquires and noticed he wasn’t really in need of therapy. His answers were all more than normal plus half the time he was eyeing his watch and looking around the room.
She slowly got up. “I’m going to have to end this appointment Mr. Kong. Apparently you have no mental illnesses.” She said pointing to the door. “And I’m much too busy to play games.”
Mr. Kong shook his head. “I’m a patient. You should be excited to have patients.” He said warningly. He knew she had become suspicious of him.
Nnadia shook her head. “I’m the professional and I’ve diagnosed you as a normal man that’s here to start trouble with me.” She replied sternly pointing to the door as she sat firmly behind her desk.
He chuckled as he got up and turned to leave the room. “Have it your way, Mrs. Cheng.” He said with his back turned to her as he headed out. She carefully watched him leave then looked at his chair. He left something. “Shit!” she thought as she jumped up to grab it and without hesitation threw it out the window. Within a second after she threw it, it exploded.
She leaped onto the ground for cover. Daniel came running into her office. “Go after Mr. Kong!” she instructed. He nodded and ran out. Leila came into the room. “Should I call the police?” she asked. Nnadia shook her head. “Go home!” she instructed. “Oh and take the appointment book so you can cancel all my appointments for the month.” She said getting back up and rushing out the door herself.
To her surprise, standing in the reception area were two masked females. “Who are you?” she asked stepping back a little. The two women didn’t answer her as they came closer. Instantly they attacked her. She stepped back and shoved Leila, who was still in the room, down to protect her then lunged forward with a sweeping kick.
Charlene lost her balance but quickly regained it. Christy pulled out a gun from her back holster but Nnadia was quicker. She grabbed one of the lamps on the table and smashed it on Christy’s head then pushed Leila out of the office. Leila was so confused she didn’t know what to do and tripped. Charlene got a hold of Leila and brought out a dagger. “Keep running and she’ll die.” She hissed in a cracking voice.
Nnadia couldn’t tell who these women were. “What do you want?” she asked sternly although she was tense beyond belief. Her mind twirled into knots thinking about her baby’s safety. For now the baby was alright. She wasn’t injured.
“Come with us and we’ll let her go.” Charlene sneered. Nnadia had no choice but to nodded her head and agree. Christy recovered from the painful thrash and proceeded to Nnadia. “Bitch!” she shrieked slapping Nnadia across the face.
Nnadia fell back a little but refrained from showing that the slap gave her any pain. “Let my receptionist go.” She said harshly. Charlene let Leila go and Christy pulled Nnadia back up and shoved her face into the desk. Leila looked back at Nnadia with confusion. Nnadia motioned her to continue out. She reluctantly nodded.
Neither expected it but just as Leila got out the door. Nnadia pulled out a V22 gun from the garter belt under her skirt and with a quick twist of her arm twisted Christy around then pointed the gun at her forehead. “Tell me who you are or she’s dead.” Nnadia said harshly.
Charlene chuckled. “I don’t give a dam about her. Kill her if you like.” She scoffed then fired at Nnadia and Christy who both luckily dodged the bullets in time. Christy took this opportunity to step on Nnadia’s foot and elbows her in the abs then run.
Nnadia wrapped her arms around her abdomen in pain. Christy ran up to Charlene and the two started fighting. Right then Sam and a few henchmen entered the office. The two girls quickly stopped fighting and made a run for it. Sam ran to Nnadia while the other men chased the two girls out. “Ah Suo! Are you ok?” he asked as he carried her out and rush her to the hospital.

[MEANWHILE…] Nicholas and Joey were at the Cheng Mansion getting their luggage ready to go to Africa. Raymond came over to the Cheng mansion to leave a few instructions for them and bring a surprise. He wasn’t going although he was really apprehensive about the whole event and really wanted to go but he didn’t want Michelle knowing he knew so she wouldn’t need to take any unnecessary action.
Nicholas and Joey met him at the top of the staircase. “Hey, Nic. Hey Joey. I got some good news for you two.” He said with a big grin as he held a yellow manila envelop in his hands.
Joey tiled her head looking at them. They were documents from her hospital visit 2 months ago. “What can possible be good about my visit to the hospital.” She asked reaching for the package and proceeded to open it. The trio walked down the hall to Nnadia’s bedroom where Ekin was packing.
Nicholas looked at Raymond. “Don’t worry. We’ll find Tavia and if we hear anything, we’ll contact you immediately.” He said reassuringly. “I’ll make sure Joey stays up night and day looking.” He joked.
Raymond smiled. “Now, Nic. I don’t want you working Joey too much. She needs rest now that she’s…” he was saying when Joey giggled uncontrollably and nudged him. Although she meant to nudge him lightly, it was very obvious she hit him a little too hard. She didn’t know her own strength.
They had now reached the front of Nnadia’s bedroom. “Why’d you do that for?” Nicholas asked Joey. She smiled refusing to answer him as she shook her head. “Why you smiling and acting all weird?” he asked bending his head to her level and giving her one of his killer smiles as he shook her.
Raymond held his side. “She’s 2 ½ months pregnant.” He said exposing the information in the files. Joey gave him a playfully ‘How dare you look’.
Raymond chuckled. “You asked for it when you nudged me so hard.” He snapped good-humoredly..
Nicholas’s eyes brighten up. A big grin wrapped around his face. “For reals?” he asked more as a statement. Joey nodded coyly. Nicholas picked her up and swung her around screaming, “WOAHOO!!!”
Joey chuckled playfully hitting him. “Put me down.” She said lightheartedly. She was so excited herself.
Because of the commotion, Ekin came out of his bedroom. “What’s going on?” Ekin asked noticing his brother excitedly spinning Joey in a circle.
“JOEY”S PREGNANT!!!” Nicholas shouted happily. “I’m going to be a father!”
Ekin laughed with a pleasing grin. “That’s great!” he said coming out of his room.
“Yeah now put her down.” Raymond advised Nicholas. Nicholas chuckled and nodded his head as he slowly placed Joey back on the floor and held her as if she needed support. Joey playfully hit him. “I can walk you know.” She said teasingly.
Nicholas nodded looking a bit nervous now. “Just in case.” He said. She rolled her eyes at him. “Come on let’s finish packing.” She advised pulling him into the room. He stopped her. “Careful.” He said worriedly.
She playfully hit him on the head. “Silly boy!” she teased and started running. Nicholas tried to stop her but she was already gone. “Wait, be careful!” he shouted running after her.
Raymond and Ekin laughed at the couple then Raymond turned to Ekin. “Please give this to Tavia when you see her.” he said handing him a letter. He nodded and took it.
Daniel came running up the stairs. “Dai Lo (boss), Ah So is in the hospital!” he said frantically. “Someone pulled an attack on her.” he said breathlessly.
“Take me to the hospital!” he said rushing out the door. Raymond followed. “Wait for me.” He said. The three got into the car and rushed towards Queen Mary. Daniel explained everything to Ekin who tried to sort out his enemies and reason about which one would dare do such a thing to his wife!
He arrived at the hospital and entered a special room where his doctor friends were taking care of Nnadia. “Is she ok?” he asked rushing in. The doctors nodded. “She was elbowed harshly in the abs but she and the baby are ok.” The doctor informed him.
Ekin let out a breath of alleviation and rushed to Nnadia’s bedside. “Honey.” He said wrapping his hands around her hand as he observed her. She smiled loving to him. “Everything is ok.” She said to reassure him.
He shook his head. “From now on, I don’t want you near the triads!” he said “Those bastards!” he shouted unable to control his anger. “They’ll pay!” he warned. “Daniel! Sam!” he shouted. “Investigation!” he ordered.
Nnadia shook her head. “I have a feeling it wasn’t anyone in the triads. I’ve made acquaintances with all their wives and mistresses. None of them are capable of what I’ve seen these two girls do today. For some reason the two that attacked seemed like they wanted to use me as bait for a larger conspiracy, it wasn’t as simply to kill me.” She informed him.
Ekin listened to everything she said for clarity. He tried to convince Nnadia to stay away from the Triads for the time being because he was worried about her and the baby but she refused to stand by to watch chaos break lose because she wanted to help him as much as possible. He had no choice but to oblige to her.
Since she was safe in the protected “special” room Ekin left for the investigations. Raymond stepped forward and bent down to take a seat next to his cousin. He let out a deep sigh. “Is it worth it?” he asked her.
Nnadia patted her belly and looked sincerely into his eyes without even thinking about what he asked her. “Worthy isn’t the word to describe my life with Ekin now.” She said. “Ekin and my baby aren’t worthy of anything. They are everything.” She said as she looked up into Raymond’s eyes.
Raymond shook his head. “I don’t understand why you of all people would ruin your life like this.” He said rubbing his hand against his face. “You were a professional Psychiatrist with a bright future! What kind of desires can bring you to such extremes?” he asked perplexed.
“The desire to be happy, to be in love, to be free.” She responded. “I was a successful psychiatrist but I was never truly happy, free or in love. I lived life according to what others told me was right and not what I felt was right.” she said patting her belly once more then looked into Raymond’s eyes and asked, “Isn’t there something you want? Something you crave so much because it brings you life?”
Raymond let out a sigh of defeat and nodded as he thought of Tavia. Nnadia smiled because she knew he had realized what he wanted. “Just as the way Tavia makes you feel that your life is worth living, Ekin brings life into my existence.”
Raymond nodded. “I understand. But please be careful.” He advised. “For you and my unborn nephew.” He teased. Nnadia pouted. “Who said I’m going to have a boy!” she protested playfully. Raymond chuckled.
Right then Nicholas and Joey entered the ‘special’ room. They ran up to her worriedly. “I heard what happened? Oh my goodness I was so worried.” Joey said checking Nnadia’s condition. “Do you have any clues to who it was?” she asked.
Nnadia shook her head. “I’m fine and Ekin’s investigating right now. Everything will be ok.”
Nicholas shook his head. “I think you and Nnadia should move somewhere safer for the time being.” Nicholas advised. “Like England or something.” He suggested.
Nnadia looked at him oddly. “I will not leave to hide anywhere.” She said. “Anyways Joey’s one of the best fighters. Look at everything she’s taught me, she’s the best trainer we have on the team, why send her away all alone! Unless you go with her.” Nnadia suggested.
“But Ah So! She’s pregnant!” Nicholas complained. “I don’t want her or you and the babies in any unnecessary harm.” He said almost whining.
Nnadia’s jaw practically dropped out off her face. A smile of joy elated across her face. “Is that true?” she asked Joey. “How many months?”
Raymond and Joey both nodded. “2 ½ months.” Raymond responded. “I got the results today and informed them just moments before we knew of your incident.” He said.
She nodded and beamed with excitement. “Oh no, now we have to take special care of you. No more running around for you and no more chores….” She said excitedly.
“But you still do them!” Joey whined. Nicholas and Raymond nodded.
“I’m a different story!” Nnadia protested as she continued. “No more climbing. Make sure she doesn’t have a lot of work to do.” She said to Nicholas.
Joey shook her head. “Ah Suo!” she whined to Nnadia. “I’m not handicapped!”
Nnadia shook her head. “We should ship her off to England!” she joked “And she has to take special breathing classes and…” Nnadia started trailing off. Joey continued pouting. Everyone laughed

[LATER THAT NIGHT…]
Raymond was in his office looking over some things. Anita poked her head in once more. “Ray, Ray you got to stop doing this to yourself. All these late nights in the office, you must be up to something.” She said teasingly as she entered his office. “Go home and get some rest.” She advised. “I have a new nurse I need to introduce you to but it’ll probably take her some time to get familiar with you.” She said matter-of-factly. Raymond nodded. Anita smiled and left.
Raymond got the devoted Panda set from his desk and put it in his jacket pocket. Since everything that happened, he didn’t want to endanger them or anyone to look for Tavia for him. He was going to do it himself. He wasn’t going to put up this act with Michelle anymore!
As Raymond was walking down the hall with, he spotted a familiar looking girl. His adrenaline was rising, his hear was spinning, he fumbled on the thoughts running through his mind! He ran as quickly as his feet could take him. He could only see her back but he knew it was her! “TAVIA!” he shouted after turning her around.
Tavia looked at Raymond. “Can I help you?” she asked. A great smile of solace swept across his face and he wrapped his arms around her hugging her tightly. “I thought I would never see you again.” he said softly.
Tavia was shocked at his sudden burst of affection for her. She shoved him away. “Excuse me. Do I know you?” she asked. Even though she knew she had a memory problem, she wasn’t going to let every man hug her.
Raymond staggered closer to her and looked into her eyes. “No, oh no. Michelle didn't erase your memories too did she? No. Please no.” he said holding her face to look at him. “It’s me Raymond. You know Ray. Please don't do this to me. Don't forget me!” he pleaded
She shoved him away once more. “Explain yourself! I don’t know if I know you or not so you shouldn’t touch me!” she said fretfully. She didn’t know who this stranger was or what he knew of her past. She observed his facial expression. He was very familiar, but she didn't know who he was.
Raymond could sense her coming closer to him. “What have they done to you?” he asked apprehensively as he pulled her in for another hug. “Heaven help me please.” he begged. Tavia pushed him for the third time and accidentally dropped her clip board. “Who are you?” she shouted frantically.
Raymond looked at her. "It's me Raymond." he said fretfully. "Do you remember? It's me, Ray." She backed up looking at him with fear. "It's me Dr. Raymond Lam." he said.
Tavia slowly nodded and straightened up. 'He's a doctor in the hospital I work for. 'Nothing to be afraid of.' she told herself and picked up her clipboard. "I'm sorry Dr. Lam. I recently woke up from a coma.” She said looking at her clipboard where she wrote down the information she was telling him. “I lost my long term memory and my short term memory obviously doesn’t last long. I can only remember things, people, and events if I see and interact with it for long periods of time." she informed him.
Raymond was confused. “You remember waking up from a coma?” he asked. “But you don't remember me?” he was more than hurt. He was destroyed! She nodded slightly confused. “I think so. Long time ago about 3 months. Maybe if I see you more I’ll remember you." she said.
“Tavia, it’s me Raymond.” he said coming closer to her. She backed away and shook her head. “My name is Sanjo. I don't know who Tavia is. Is Tavia me?” she asked slightly confused. “Can you tell me about myself?”
“You really don't remember me?" he asked a little distressed. She shook her head. Raymond was relieved to know she was still alive. Now he had to make sure Michelle never found out. He looked at Tavia. “I can tell you a lot about you. What do you want to know?” he asked with a friendly smile.
Right then, Anita grunted from behind him. He turned around to see her shaking her head at him. “Ray, honey. In my office please.” she instructed. Tavia panicked and looked at her clipboard. She was afraid for some reason because she felt she was doing something wrong for Anita to grunt like that.
“I have work right now. I’m sure of it. I’ll see you again and maybe I’ll remember you next time.” she said walking off. As she left she wondered why the strange man was hugging her and wrote it down on her clipboard so she could remember it.
Raymond shook his head at Anita. “I need to talk to her.” he said following Tavia but Anita placed her hand on his shoulders. “NOW! Its important.” she said refusing to let him go.
He brushed her hands off his. “I need to find Tavia!” he shouted. Nothing is more important than that!” he said and was about to rush off when Anita said, “It's about Tavia or Sanyo.” Raymond paused and turned to her.
Anita motioned him into her office. “She's safe in this hospital. If you want to know more about her, come in.” She said. He looked once more in the path that Tavia disappeared into then nodded his head as he followed Anita into her office.
