Myolie’s House
It was 7 in the morning when Nancy ran up to her sister’s room and banged the door loudly as she shouted, “Come on sis, you are going to be late for school! It is your first day in Medical School…and”
“Yeeeessssss!” interrupted Myolie as she opens the door and places her hands on Nancy’s shoulder. “You are still nagging as much as before. And Come on! It is only 7 in the morning and my lessons start at 9!” Myolie yawned and walked back to bed, lying down with her pillow over her head.
Nancy rolled her eyes upon hearing the word “nagging”.
“Whatever… I’m doing this for your own good… you are going in as a second year student and you know how many cute guys there are in Hong Kong University! So, that means you have to dress up!!!” said Nancy as she tries to pull Myolie out of bed, feeling irritated by her sister’s ‘can’t be bothered’ attitude.
Myolie sat up and looked into Nancy’s eyes. “ohhh… *smirk* how do you know there are cute guys in there when you are still in High School?” said Myolie as she teased Nancy who was turning red.
Nancy blushed at her sister’s response and said, “my school is next to yours and Stephen is in Uni..that is why I know..and as a sister, I have spent my precious time surveying the school for you. You know, I will not want you to be left on the shelf while I’m married to Stephen.” *giving Myolie an innocent look*
“Hah!” exclaimed Myolie, and *in a sarcastic tone* “Righttttt….. okay…do you mind to leave the room and close the door so I can change?”
“Ok ok… but please…no jeans ok? Put on something nice…”, said Nancy as she sighed and walked out of Myolie’s bedroom. She got back to her bedroom and started preparing for school. Afterall, she will be meeting Stephen after school and she wouldn’t want him to see her without any make up on. He was the sweetest guy that she has ever met. Although he is good looking and rich, he has been very faithful to her and took good care of her. Most importantly, Liza doesn’t mind him dating Nancy at all.
Myolie drags herself out of bed and prepares herself for school. After her bath, she opens her wardrobe and reaches out for her Adidas black pants and the orange tigger top.
She wanted to wear something nice but she didn’t want to be overly dressed as well. She isn’t a dressy kind of girl and make up is a hassle to her.
At 8 am, Myolie can hear Liza yelling at the top of her voice, “Come on girls, time for breakfast! I will drive you two to school today and I am running late already.”
Myolie grabs her bag and notes before dashing down the stairs… with Nancy running behind her… They settle down at the dining table where breakfast was all set and Liza was already halfway through her breakfast.
“Good morning Mummy!” Myolie and Nancy said sweetly as they planted a kiss on Liza’s cheeks.
“Good morning girls” said Liza as she took a sip of her fragrant Vietnam coffee.
“Myolie, today is your first day in HKU, I hope that you will be able to do well in the medical school. Remember what you promise me before I agree to your medical degree?” Liza asked in a stern yet gentle voice.
Myolie gulped down her bite of the Chicken Pie and said “Excellent Results and be one of the top 3 in the university. After 5 years of practice, head back to advertising, unless I find a husband that can take over your business…and”
“And that is Vincent,” said Liza as she smiles and places her hand on top of Myolie’s hand.
Nancy chuckles upon hearing Vincent’s name. Vincent is their childhood friend and is taking a business degree in HKU. Everyone knows that Vincent has a huge crush on Myolie since they were a kid… but Myolie has always avoided going into that topic with him. She knew that he has feelings for her but to her, he is just a buddy, a brother, a family member. She hasn’t felt her heart beats faster, he hasn’t swept her off her feet…. And the feeling is just different. Hearing Nancy’s chuckles, she gave her a kick under the table.
“OUCH!” Nancy yelled in pain as she reaches for her toes.
Liza turns and looks at Nancy with a concern look. Before she could say something,
“Nothing.. erm.. I hit my feet… against the chair…”
explained Nancy in a nervous tone.
“Now now.. Nancy…it is your final year in High School…. Please study hard. I am expecting extremely good results from you. Thank Goodness you came in first in your class last year, if not, I would have make sure that you and Stephen stop seeing each other. Plus since Stephen is doing extremely well in the media studies as well… so… I am closing an eye to your relationship with him… look at your”
Before Liza can finish what she has in mind to say, Nancy interrupted quickly and said, “ok mom! We are going to be late for school, right sis?” She winks and signals to Myolie for help.
Myolie getting Nancy’s hint replied quickly, “yeah! I would like to be early today… it is my first day afterall.”
Liza drops the sisters off at school in her silver Lexus car before heading to work.
“Enjoy your day in school sis! Get to know more guys unless you want Vincent!” teased Nancy.
“Stop it…” whined Myolie as she lean forward to hug her sister before walking into HKU.
With a printed location map in hand, Myolie heads towards her lecture hall with thoughts in her mind: “it is a dream comes true! Medical School! Back in Hong Kong! And oh no… Vincent. Mum hasn’t given up all these years and Vincent too. I am going to meet him today and what is he planning to tell me… ahh..please don’t say you love me… I”
Bang! Someone knocked into her and her notes flew all over the entrance of the lecture hall. Her chain of thoughts broke off as she turned at stare at the tall and well…
rather well built young man, dressed in jeans and a white shirt that left the top 3 buttons open.
“Aahhh… why are you walking so slowly? Look at the mess now!” Bosco said in an irritated tone.
Myolie was shocked at his response and said, “Hello? You are the one who knocked into me? And…”
“I’m running late for class! And you are the one who is slowing me down!” said Bosco in a matter of fact tone. To him, Myolie was just a nerd and someone that he hasn’t seen in school before.
“You…” said Myolie as she pointed her finger in Bosco’s face. She was lost for words because she has never imagined a young dashing guy behaving in a non gentleman way.
“hey Bosco!” shouted Natalie as she walks up to Bosco and kisses him on his cheek. “ shall we sit together today?”
“Sure sweetie!” Bosco said gently and places his hand on Natalie’s waist as he led her into the lecture hall…leaving Myolie to pick up her notes outside the lecture hall.
Myolie grumbled as she picks up her notes, “I will never fall for a guy like that. So much of having cute guys in HKU. Just look at the first guy I met. Cute? puke! And the girl? Wow! She might as well not wear a skirt at all. Tsk!”
As she reaches out for her last piece of notes, she saw a hand reaching out for it…
