Chapter 1

One stop coffee shop

Work, work, work, that’s all my family and I do ever since my father passed away. Before he died, he opened up a little coffee shop called “One Stop Coffee shop”, and like its name, people come in one time and never come back again. Our shop wasn’t in the best condition, it looked okay from the outside, but when you go in it’s bad. The walls have chipped paint, the tables and chairs are old, and the floor boards are creaky. We always wanted to remodel it, but we never got enough money from our profits to do anything. My dad would always work over time to try to think of possible ways of making extra cash. When my dad fell ill, my mom wanted to close down the shop, but my dad insisted that we keep it. In the end, my mom kept it in remembrance of my dad.

When I was in high school, my mom and my older brother, Seunghyun, were the only ones working there. After I graduated I decided to skip college and help my family run the shop, while my younger brother, Seungri, helps whenever he can. My mom didn’t like the idea of me not going to college at first, but after I told her that I wanted to study abroad, she changed her mind. She told me she rather have me stay here in Korea and not go to college so that she can keep an eye on me. Because of her, I’m twenty and I never had a boyfriend before. All the boys were too scared to approach me when there was an eagle watching us like a prey. The only boys she really lets me talk to are my brothers and my neighbor and best friend, Youngbae.

Youngbae and I knew each other since we were both five due to the fact that we live directly next to each other. He is the sweetest boy alive and not to mention innocent. Like my mom, his mom doesn’t want him to date either. Yes, both of our mommies are very protective of their children, but because we grew up together, they allow us to hang out with each other. The sad thing is, we are each others’ only friend and I have a crush on him.

Although I want to be him to be my first boyfriend, I’m afraid that he wouldn’t feel the same way about me. I don’t want to tell him my real feelings and risk our friendship. If our friendship is destroyed, I would be a complete loner for life. But if he does feel the same way about me, I think we would be the perfect couple.

*sigh*…Youngbae…

“Seungyeon, stop day dreaming and get back to work!” Seunghyun threw a towel over my head.

“What work? There’s no body here!” I retorted.

“Mop the floor or something, don’t just sit there and day dream about nothing.” Seunghyun sat in one of the chairs and started reading the newspaper.

“And what are you doing oppa?” I crossed my arms.

“I’m reading the newspaper. At least I’m doing something productive unlike you.” Seunghyun said without looking up from the newspaper.

My older brother gives me the best love in the world. Puh! Whatever! He is the meanest brother I can ever ask for. He and his best friend, Jiyong, can be the meanest people on earth and they’re only two years older than me. See, when I was still in high school, way before Jiyong left to study abroad, I had the dorkiest glasses ever, not to mention I had braces as well. Both of them were always teasing me and making fun of how I looked. But when Jiyong left, I had my braces taken off and I got contacts. It has been four years since I’ve seen Jiyong and I would like to keep it that way. One person gaining up on me is enough already.

I walked over to Seunghyun and grabbed the newspaper from him.

“Yah! Do you want to die!?” Seunghyun curled one side of his lips.

“Hmph! UMMA! Oppa’s threatening me ag-hmm!” Seunghyun put his hand around my mouth to prevent me from saying anything more.

“Yah, stop that.” Seunghyun whispered.

Our mom is my best counter attack on him. When ever he messes with me, all I have to do is call out “umma” and he would stop. We both know that our mom isn’t going to do anything, but that’s how we play with each other.

I took his hands off of my mouth.

“Ewww!!! You touched my lips with your dirty hands!!” I squealed.

“What are you talking about? My hands aren’t dirty.” Seunghyun said coolly.

“Yes they are! Look, they’re black!” I picked up his hand and made his palms facing up.

Seunghyun looked at his hands and realized that I was right.

“It’s only from the newspaper, calm down.”

“No! Ugh!” I stormed in to the rest room to wash the area he touched.

When I looked in to the mirror I noticed the black parts from his fingers had rub off onto my face. I rubbed soap and water all over my mouth area to get all of the dirtiness off of me.

Now, you may think that I’m weird for freaking out over something this little, but I can break out like crazy for touching my face without washing my hands. Trust me, I know from my geeky high school days.

“Noona? NOONA?” I heard someone called.

“Yes Seungri?” I walked out of the restroom while carefully patting my face dry.

“Hi Seungyeon noona!” Daesung waved frantically while smiling like Doraemon.

When ever I see Daesung smile the image of Doraemon pops in my head. Why you ask? Well, simply because Doraemon is Daesung’s favorite cartoon character. He has everything you can imagine with the picture of Doraemon on it. You should see his cell phone. It has hundreds of different Doraemon hanging together, okay, maybe not hundreds, but it sure looks like it. If you look at it from far away, it looks like a giant blue rolled up sock hanging off of his phone.

“Did you have lunch yet?” Seungri asked.

“Hey Daesung! No, I’m too lazy to make anything right now.”

“You want me to make you a sandwich?”

“Sure, but shouldn’t you be at school still?”

“Yeah, but Daesung and I didn’t want school food so I thought we’ll stop by and get some food.”

“You know you got to pay for those.”

“Noona please, you know we don’t have any money, and besides I’m making you a sandwich. That should pay for it right?”

“I guess, it better be good.” I sat down on one of the chairs.

“Aye aye captain!” Seungri did a little salute and went in the kitchen to make sandwiches.

Ah…Seungri. I love him…well sometimes, only when he’s willing to do stuff for me. Other than that, he can be a pain in the butt like Seunghyun. Even though he’s two years younger than me, he can still make fun of me. But I guess that’s what happens when you’re the only girl in the family.

“Seungyeon noona, you look tense, let me give you a massage.” Daesung started rubbing my shoulders.

I usually would’ve pushed him away, but the massage was very calming.

“Ohh harder, ow, ow, ow, too hard! A little softer, yeah, right there.” I instructed Daesung.

Seunghyun looked up from his newspaper and made a disgusted face.

“Shut up, it sounds like you’re having sex.”

My eyes widen. I looked around the room to see if my mom was in the same room as us. Good thing she wasn’t, or else she would’ve lectured me about safe sex and the use of condoms.

“Like you would know!” I retorted.

“Actually I do know. It’s you who don’t.”

“O. M. G. I did not need to know that. Eww, gross! Who would actually do you?”

“Yah!”

“I mean seriously, who in their right mind would actually have sex with you? Did you drug her? Or him? Or it?”

Seungri and Daesung snickered.

“I don’t know what you talking about. You obviously can’t tell what’s good looking and what’s ugly. Here let me show, I’m good looking and you’re ugly. Does that make it clear enough for you?”

“Oooh!” Seungri and Daesung called out in unison.

“Something’s obviously wrong with your head. You got the order messed up. I’m the one that’s good looking, the beauty you know? And you’re the ugly one, as in the beast.”

“OOHH!” Seungri yelled out from the window in the kitchen.

“Seungyeon noona won that one!” Daesung added.

“Oh yeah! I’m getting better!” I started doing my happy dance.

“Psh, what do you think this is? Happy Feet?”

“No, it’s called a victory dance. Something you can’t do right now cause I whooped you.” I chimed.

“Ah, fuck this. This isn’t my day.” Seunghyun continue to read the newspaper.

“Ha ha, loser!”

“And here’s your victory prize!” Seungri placed the sandwich he made for me on the table. “We’re gonna go now, see you when I get off school. Bye.”

“Bye Seungyeon noona. Bye Seunghyun hyung.”

“Bye!” I waved goodbye to them.

Seunghyun gave them a nod.

I took a bite out of my sandwich and went to get myself a glass of apply juice. When I sat back down and took another bite, someone walked in the door, making the little bell above the door jingle. I turned around to welcome who ever it was, but end up choking on my sandwich after seeing who it was.

It was him…
