Chapter 1
+“If only it was really just a dream...”+
*Flashback*
“Umma,” So Hee looked up at her mom before her and smiled, showing her baby teeth, “why...are we always running?” “Ne,” Yoo Bin agreed, “i like this house...! i like the view... I don’t want to move...!” “Appa,” Sun Mi said, tugging on his arm, “why don’t you and umma ever let us go into your room when you guys aren't there?” “Oooh!” Ye Eun exclaimed suddenly, making everyone jump, “today is August 12th! Sun Ye's BIRTHDAY!!!” “OH!” Sun Ye jumped up and accidentally knocked Ye Eun to the side. “Omo,” Sun Ye helped her up, and apologized, then she went on, “Ah...um...Oh yea! That's right! I almost forgot! Today is my birthday! I am OFFICIALY nine years old today!” Sun Mi laughed, “Appa, umma, can we have a party?” Sun Ye was just about to sit back down, when pain suddenly buffeted her in the side. She winced once, hoping it would go away, but it kept pounding her in the side, harder and harder blows. “Yah,” Yoo Bin poked Sun Ye, “are you okay?” She opened her mouth to answer, but began to cough instead. Immediately, her mom picked her up and set Sun Ye on her lap. “Aish,” she muttered, “its happening again.” So Hee stood up, wobbly, and made her way to Sun Ye, “unni-” she got interrupted by the pain that buffeted her. Her dad noticed it right away, and picked up So Hee as the pain stopped. Sun Ye's coughing came to a halt, and Sun Mi stared from her dad, to her mom...and asked, “Why does this happen?” Both the parents exchanged glances, then her dad sighed, “I know very well that you five are still small...but if you guys don’t find out about this, you guys may never know...” “Never know what?” Sun Ye gave him a light tug on his arm. “Sun Ye,” he went on, “i especially want you to remember this.” “Oh...” she nodded, “okay.” “Bo?” Yoo Bin jumped off the chair, “why not me? I'm older...!” “You might refuse to listen to this, fully,” he laughed lightly, then he went on, “when you guys were still small, you guys got lost, and...your mom and i were called to the hospital.” “We were told that the doctor verified some sort of chemical was injected into you guys,” their mom stated. “What kind of chemicals...?” Sun mi asked, interested. “It...” their dad began slowly, “it... Your mom and i got a sample of the chemical from the doctor, and we've been doing all kinds of research on it, just today, we found out that the chemical connects your lives with some others.” No one spoke for a bit, then So Hee let out a laugh, “That's funnie, our lives are tied with some others.” “That's not funnie,” Ye Eun nudged her lightly, “that's dangerous...i think...” She looked up at her dad, “Is it...?” “Ne,” he answered, “it means-” “Whatever happens to them...” Sun Mi interrupted, “it...happens to us too...right...?”
Silence filled the room, as all five of the girls looked up at their parents...waiting for an answer... “Ne,” two dark figures stood by the doorway. Before anyone had a chance to react, a gunshot sounded, and blood filled the scene. “Umma!” So Hee exclaimed at the highest pitch ever. Another shot fired from the same guy. “Appa...!” Yoo Bin yelled out, seeing her dad's body next to her. “Appa...!” Sun Ye exclaimed, “umma!” Tears rolled down her face, and mixed with the blood that began to leak onto the floor. Sun Mi carefully examined her mom, making sure not to get her tears onto her mom, who lay completely unconscious, unable to breathe in front of her. So Hee froze, and so did her sisters. They forgot all about the two figures that had disappeared from the doorway, and was now by So Hee's side. The same gun that shot both their mom and dad, was pointed to the youngest of the five. “Yah!” Sun Ye spoke with tears still pouring down her face, “don't you dare hurt my sister!”
The guy with the gun pointed to So Hee's head, smiled a smile surely none of the sisters would forget. His teeth showed as he said, “Mwoya? What are you gonna do about it? I'm surprised you're standing up to me...” He made his way to Sun Ye, and pointed the gun to her head instead. “Go ahead,” she smiled, “i'd gladly sacrifice my life for my sisters, ANY day.” She slowly closed her eyes, and a gun fired. Blood splashed onto Sun Ye's face, as her sisters screamed and gasped. Her eyes opened, surprised to see who's blood it had been. The guy before her, collapsed and the gun that was once pointed to her head, fell to the floor. Everyone's eyes turned to face the only unknown person in the room, who still stood.
He had the gun in his hand, pointed to his head. Immediately, Sun Ye jumped up and ran over to him, her foot sending blood into the air as she stepped in the puddles. She grasped onto his leg, and shook her head vigorously. “Yah, sun ye!” yoo bin exclaimed, trying to pull sun ye away from the stranger. “Ani,” sun ye ignored yoo bin, tugging at her arm.
The little girl's eyes glittered faintly, showing the innocence that lived deep within... Everything seemed to pause for a split second. “Sun ye...” the stranger quietly said, staring into the eyes of llittle sun ye, “is that your name...?” He smiled, a faint, wry smile. “Ne,” Sun ye nodded, her eyes glued to the gun, aware of any sudden movement... “I'll remember that,” his smile dissappeared, as his hold of the gun tightened. Lightly, he pushed sun ye away, and took slow steps back, with the gun...still pointed to his head...
The sound of a gunshot startled everyone, as they all turned to look in the direction the gunshot sounded. There, stood little sun ye, with the gun from earlier, the gun from the first guy, in her hands...trembling, uncontrollably. She had fired the gun, hitting the gun out of the stranger’s hands.
He fell on his knees, and opened his arms, welcoming sun ye. Almost instantly, she dropped the gun in her hands, and ran over to him. He hugged the little sun ye that had just saved him from himself... “I don’t deserve to live...” he said, “all my life i've killed people for no reason...” “Its not too late to start over,” Ye Eun replied, “its never too late...” “Its not hard to change,” sun mi smiled...and he nodded, willingly.
The stranger. Eun Jae, introduced himself to the five little ones, as they introduced themselves, too. Eun Jae helped little Sun Ye them bury their parents, and not long after, he departed, leaving behind his gun, as a gift to sun ye, and his mask that covered about half of his face, as proof of his commitment to change, for the better.
*End of flashback*
Sun ye woke up, and mentally slapped herself for having the dream, over and over again. “If only it was really just a dream...” she pulled herself out of bed, still in her pj's, and went downstairs, only to find her sisters already awake and ready.
“Same dream?” Ye Eun asked, as she held out a fresh plate of pancakes to sun ye. She nodded solemnly, taking the plate of pancakes, and settled herself in a seat at the table. “Why do you keep having that dream?” So Hee asked, as she set a cup of orange juice next to sun ye's plate of pancakes. “Ne,” yoo bin laughed lightly, “it must be painful.” “Ani,” Sun ye finally spoke, “i'm used to it...” “Of course you are,” Sun Mi joked, “you're just not over it, yet.” Sun ye smiled lightly, as she took a sip of the orange juice. "Oh...!" she suddenly remembered, "when are we gonna do the researches...?" She took another drink from the juice. Yoo bin grabbed her bag, and opened the front door. ye eun handed sun ye her bag, "When we get home from school.""SCHOOL?!" Sun ye coughed up the juice. "Ne," Yoo Bin laughed, "we have school." "When did we have school?" Sun Ye asked, as she finally stopped coughing. "When the school year began," So Hee said. "What do we go to...?" Sun Ye stood up, and walked over to the sink with her dishes, and began to wash them. "The GRAND Seoul university,” Sun Mi answered. Sun ye dried her dishes, and turned to look at her sisters, "You're kidding...right...?" They shook their heads, "If you don’t hurry up, we'll all be late."
"Where did you guys even get the money for this?" Sun Ye asked as she walked in the opposite direction from her sisters, and headed towards the principal’s office. "What do you think, Sun Ye...?"sun mi spoke in a low tone, "umma and appa were killers, they get paid like they're millionaires...!" "What...?" Sun Ye stopped walking, and laughed, "did you guys discover a stash or something...?" "Um..."ye eun played with her fingers, "it was...and accident..." "Bo?" Sun Ye couldn't help but laugh out loud, "you're kidding...right...?" "SHHH...!" So Hee ran over to Sun Ye, and covered her mouth, "not so loud...!" "Aish!" Sun Ye pulled so hee's hand away from her mouth, "today is too weird, let's just get moving, arasso?"She sighed, and continued to walk. "Yah," Ye Eun called out, “Sun Ye, where are you going...?” Sun Ye stopped, and turned to face her sisters, with a smile on her face, “To request a schedule change.”
//////
“Annyeonghaseyo,” the principle greeted the five, “i am principle Yoochun, how may i help you five?” “We want a schedule change,” Yoo Bin spoke up, “you see, the five of us has to be in the same class.” “I'm sorry,” he replied dryly, “i can only change your classes, if you have a proper reason.” Sun Ye sighed, “My sister, Ye Eun has a weak heart, and if something happens, we all need to be there.” “The nurse can take care of that for your sister,” yoochun held his ground. So Hee stood up, challenging him, “I hear this school doesn't have a very good nurse...”
//////
He handed them their new schedules, “Oh, this school requires uniforms, too.” He handed them five pairs of girl uniforms, and said, “please, go change.” “Bo?!” So Hee exclaimed, “there is NO way i'm going to change into THAT hideous piece of sh-” “That's fine,” Sun Ye quickly interrupted So Hee, and took the uniforms, as they left the room, and went into an opened bathroom to change.
“WHY are we forced to wear uniforms?!” So Hee asked, fidgeting with the collar of her shirt. “Look,” Sun Ye smoothed out her skirt, “we're only wearing it for today, so we dont look rude. We'll go back into his office tomorrow, and confront these crap.” “Um...” Yoo Bin laughed, “i kinda look like a slut...because i'm wearing heels with this...” “Omo!” So Hee continued to complain, “i'm wearing BOOTS with this!” “Maybe they should prepare us with shoes, too...” Sun Mi said. “Aish...” Ye Eun fidgeted with her skirt, “these things are itchy...! There IS something called COTTON!!” “Yah,” Sun Ye stopped them, “stop complaining. I know this shit is stupid, but get over it. We're not gonna be wearing them tomorrow anyways.” She sighed, “Lets get to class.”
They walked into the room, as the bell rang, and everyone's looked up at them. “Nice way to start off the first day,” Yoo Bin muttered in-between gritted teeth. “Annyeonghaseyo,” the teacher greeted, “i'm Ms.Hwang.” “annyeonghaseyo,” the five greeted her.” “Oh...!” Ms.Hwang looked at them, “are you five...sisters...?” “Ani,” Yoo Bin quickly gave a smile, “we're friends.” Sun Mi nodded in agreement, “Very close friends.” “Ah...” Ms.Hwang replied, “i see...” “I'm Min Sun Ye,” Sun Ye introduced, “and these are my sis- friends. Park Ye Eun, Kim Yoo Bin, Ahn So Hee, and Sun Mi.” “Ah,” Ms.Hwang smiled, “ok, then. Please take a seat at any empty seat.” They turned around, to find a seat, and the first thing the five of them noticed, were the guys that sat in the back of the class, in REGULAR clothes! NOT uniforms, but REGULAR clothes...! “Yah,” So Hee whispered into Sun Ye's ear, irritatedly, “THEY'RE not wearing uniforms, why do WE have to?!” Sun Ye merely smiled, and said, “But everyone ELSE is wearing uniforms, so stop complaining...!”
//////
They were said to be FRIENDS, but truth is...their parents disguised them with different last names, so whoever was after them, wouldn't catch them...at least...not that easily...
After a measly 2 hours in class, the bell rang, and class was dismissed. The first one out the door, was Sun Ye. She left, before anyone could say anything. Her sisters followed after her, and they headed towards the basketball courts. “Why are we going this way?” So Hee asked, tired from the whole day, so far. “Yah,” Yoo Bin caught up with Sun Ye, “where are you going?” Sun Ye stopped in her steps, and smiled, “To get a workout...!” “Workout....?” Ye Eun scratched her head, “...bo...?” Sun Ye sighed, and picked a basketball off the floor. “Let's...play...BASKETBALL...” Sun Ye stretched out the sentence, and tossed Sun Mi the basketball, “what do you say, huh? Are you four up for it?” Sun Mi stared at the basketball, unsure of her answer... “I-i-i” she stuttered, “i'm...not really good at this...kind of thing.” She tossed the ball to Yoo Bin, but it flew over Yoo Bin's head, and hit someone not far away from her.
