Raymond finally finished putting up the last of his Christmas decoration around his apartment. He remembered the letter on the counter and decided to go over to return the mail.
He walked next door and knocked on the door twice. There was no response, so he tried knocking again. He then realized that it was twelve in the afternoon and that most people were either at work or school.
He contemplated whether he should just slide it under the door, but decided not to in the end. “I’ll just wait until she returns to give it to her in person. It’s been a few weeks since I moved here and I haven’t even introduced myself to her.”

“Will my baby be okay?” I asked impatiently as I hovered over the mechanic inspecting it.
He started chuckling as if he’d never heard anyone refer to their car as their ‘baby’. After he finished his laughing fit, he finally answered, “It’ll be fine, just leave it with me over the weekend and I promise when you see it next time it’ll be looking as if it were new.”
“But how am I going to get around today and the rest of the weekend?” I questioned. He only shrugged his shoulders and resumed to the car he was previously working on. Well, it’s not like I was planning to leave my apartment over weekend anyway, because we all know that’s when the crazy holiday shoppers are out.
Luckily my apartment was only two blocks away. I decided to stop by the grocery store to grab a few things that would at least last me through the weekend. I bought a loaf of bread, a quart of milk, some chips, 3 apples, a 6-pack of yogurt, and a box of granola bars. I finished my transaction and was once again on the street. Fighting against the harsh winds I managed to get home after roughly 20 minutes; luckily I’m in shape.
My phone started ringing as I opened the door into my apartment, “Hello” I answered slightly out of breath now that I just climbed two flights of stairs.
“Hey Myolie, this is Emily, I know this is last minute and it is a Friday night, but we were going to get together to finish our project. Do you think you could meet us at the library?”
“I would if I could, but my car is in the shop, unless one of you could pick me up.”
“I think your apartment is on the way there so I’ll come get you in about 20 minutes.”
“Okay, I’ll see you then.” The conversation ended.
“Great, right when I think I can get some rest. Today has not been my day.” I began to scrounge around my apartment trying to find all of what I’d need. I have my laptop, textbook, notes, my research….”MY FLASHDRIVE!” I began to turn my apartment upside down trying to find it.

Raymond noticed the racket next door. “She must be back. I guess I’ll go over after I take the lasagnas out of the oven.”
“Man, what is she doing over there, killing a dragon?” Fred joked.

I finally found it under the couch and at the same time I heard the familiar ring tone of my cell phone. I looked around having the slightest clue where it was now that my apartment was in an absolute mess.
Realizing where it was coming from I quickly dove for my purse on the floor. I was able to answer it before the caller hung up. “You’re downstairs? Yeah, I’ll be there in a couple of minutes.”
I opened the door and found a complete stranger standing outside my door. He had his hand raised; I suppose he was about to knock on the door.
He stepped aside letting me exit from my apartment. I locked up my apartment, but seeing that he was still standing there I lingered around pretending to still be locking my door.
I peeked over my shoulders and found him smiling. What were his intentions? Would he break into my apartment once I left?
I turned around to face him, “Can I help you?” I asked.
“Yeah, my name is Raymond Lam. I live next door to you. I think this is yours.” He handed me an envelope with my name on it.
I accepted it, and muttered “thanks.”
He stood there still grinning; at the same time the neighbor who lived across from us happen to come out from his apartment. “Look, you two are standing under the mistletoe.” He noted.
I looked up and indeed there was. I could just strangle the person who had placed it there. I glared at the neighbor, “Mind your own business.” I warned. As I turned around to leave, I felt someone grab hold of my elbow pulling me back.
I turned my head to see who it was. The guy who’d given me my letter; he pulled me closer, wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed me!
Finally letting go, he smiled, “Wouldn’t want to break Christmas traditions, right?”
obviously I didn’t agree because his statement landed him with a slap across his face.
