Chapter 3

Date: December 1, 2006

I immediately ran down the stairs and the moment I entered Emily’s car I demanded her to take me to the grocery store, “I need mouthwash.”

“Right now? Can’t you just go back upstairs to your apartment?”

“No.” I couldn’t risk going back upstairs. What if ‘he’ was still there? “I need mouthwash now!” Obviously frightened by my tone of voice, Emily stepped on the gas peddle.

Raymond re-entered his apartment and Fred walked over to him, “What happen to your face?” he asked as he placed his hand over the red hand print still on Raymond’s face.

Raymond re-told the situation which caused Fred to laugh so hard his stomach hurt. Never would he imagine that Raymond’s spontaneous personality would lead to this.

I purchased a bottle of mouthwash, a tube of toothpaste, and a brand new toothbrush. I took the items to the bathroom of the store and began to rinse my mouth ferociously. I spat it out and rinsed again. I then proceeded to brush my teeth and rinse my mouth again. I continued this process for the next ten minutes. “Creep, taking advantage of me,” I huffed angrily.

Date: December 7, 2006 Time: 4:25 PM Location: Starbucks

Finals are coming up in the next two weeks and I requested to be off so I could study, but guess where I am at the moment? If you said work, you are absolutely correct. The managers felt that since its finals’ time, more college students will be coming in to buy coffee. And what better way to make money? Our branch will be open until 2 AM beginning this past Monday until Christmas Eve.

Luckily, I get off at 10 tonight. I glanced down at my watch and noticed I had 5 more minutes until my break.

I head into the back where I find the kitchen to be empty, except for my best friend, Jack Wu. I guess it’s because Jack’s the only other Asian that works here and both our last name happens to be Wu that we get along so well.

Anyways, Jack is one of the bakers, I don’t know if it is because he’s been eating too much of his own cooking or what but he’s obtained a rather round belly over the years. But I have to admit, his cookies, and brownies are extra delicious.

“Hey Myolie, I’m glad you’re back here. You want to help me decorate my cookies?” he asked as he squeezed the green icing in a zigzag motion onto his Christmas tree shaped chocolate chip cookie.

“Do you even have to ask? You k now how much I hate Christmas.” I responded as I scarf down a blueberry muffin.

“Myolie, why do you have to be like Scrooge?”

“Can’t we talk about something else?” I asked. Jack got the hint and changed the subject. After chatting with Jack for a bit longer I realized that my break was ending soon.

Kelly, one of the other cashiers, poked her head into the kitchen, “Myolie, you better get back out here before Mike goes looking for you.” I nodded and bid Jack goodbye.

Walking back to my register I see Mike, my manager, talking to someone. I could not see who it was since he had his back towards me, but it was obviously a male and he was Asian.

Mike notice I was back at the register again, so he started walking over with the other person. My eyes widen in disbelief. My eyes must be playing tricks on my, it could not be ‘him.’

“Myolie, this is Raymond.” Mike introduced. “He’s going to be working here now, so just show him what he needs to do.”

“Mike, how can you hire someone like him?”

“He can make lattes, frapacchinos, espressos, so he’s hired. Weren’t you the one who said that we were short staffed? I hire someone and now you’re complaining.”

Mike left and I rolled my eyes, ‘Since when has he ever listened to me.’

Raymond tried to start up a conversation, “What a coincidence, huh?”

“Why don’t you just call yourself a stalker?”

“I promise I’m not.”

“Look you pervert, just keep a 3 feet distance away from me.” I instructed.

“I’m really sorry about the other day. I wasn’t trying to take advantage of you.”

“Sure you weren’t. I don’t see rapist walking around with the words inscribed on their forehead. Who actually admits that they are a pervert? Come to think of it, maybe you were the one who placed the mistletoe there. Maybe that’s your intentions; to take advantage of all the female residence.”

“But” he began to take a step towards me.

I immediately stopped him, “3 feet” I reminded. He stayed at the other end of the counter. I spent the rest of the evening avoiding him as much as possible. Can things get any worse?
