I awoke no later than when Raymond’s Christmas music began blaring next door. I smiled at the now familiar tune of ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’. Groggily, I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to shower and wash up.
As I lathered the shampoo over my hair, I found myself humming the melody of ‘Jingle Bells’. I cursed under my breath, “Damn it Raymond Lam, what have you done to me?”
I walked out and took a seat on the sofa, while drying my hair with a towel, I noticed the flashing red light on my answering machine. I leaned over and pressed the button before resuming to my hair drying.
“Morning Sleepyhead,” I recognized the voice, “It’s mom; I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. I’m so sorry I’m not able to spend it with you, but I hope you’ll have a wonderful day. I love you hunny.”
The message ended with a beep and the second message started, “Hey Myo, its dad.” Myolie chuckled; it was almost as if they’d planned it all out together to call her at the same time. “I hope you’ve received the present I sent to you. I really hope you’ll be there to attend my wedding ceremony. It would mean so much to me. No matter what, you’ll always be my little girl and I love you. Have a Merry Christmas and be safe.” I pondered whether to call them back, but what would I say?

I walked out to my car wanting to get a CD when I heard someone greet me, “Morning.” Raymond said with a dashing smile.
I greeted him back, “Morning.” I found myself unable to take my eyes off him this particular morning. He looked handsome dressed in a red wool sweater over a white dress shirt with a pair of black dress pants. As cold as the weather was, I felt extremely warm; I could feel the heat rising to my face.
“Mind giving me a ride?” he asked, “to get my car?” he added and I nodded. As I began driving towards the orphanage he asked me another question, “Are you busy right now?”
“I don’t have plans yet if that’s what you’re asking.” I replied.
“I was going to the community kitchen to volunteer and I was wondering if you’d like to join me?” I parked my car next to his at the orphanage and we walked to the community kitchen.

When we arrived, Raymond took my coat along with his to hang up. He returned with two aprons. He helped me tie mine on, and I did the same for him. We were given instructions on what we could do to help. I was assigned to help cut carrots.
“Doing okay over there?” Raymond asked me.
I chuckled as I continued to dice the carrots into small pieces, “I like to cook, but I’ve never cooked for so many people.”
“Yup, we’re cooking for over 200 people tonight.” He replied as he worked on peeling the potatoes.
We had a lunch break and I snuck out to make a phone call. “Hello, mom? It’s Myolie.” My mom was thrilled to hear my voice “How are you? Is your Christmas going well?” I asked. We had a long conversation, the best one in many years. “Merry Christmas mom I miss you.” I wanted to call my dad as well, but I knew I needed to get back to work, I’ll call him later.
We finally finished cooking and served dinner. Everyone looked so satisfied just to have a warm dinner that it made me smile. The volunteers joined in the kitchen for dinner as well, ‘Mmm…it tasted delicious.’
I finally had some time to call my dad, but he didn’t answer, so I left him a message, “Dad, I got your present. It’s really pretty. About you wedding, I’ll try my best to attend. Hope you have a Merry Christmas. I love you.”
“I’m so full!” Raymond exclaimed as he rubbed his stomach. “Let’s walk back.” He suggested.

As we walked along the street the weather was getting colder as the night passed away. I rubbed my hands together, creating friction to make myself warmer. Raymond stopped in his step and I stopped as well. He pulled his glove on his right hand off and grabbed hold of my right hand, carefully slipping the glove on it.
He then interlocked his bear right hand into my left hand and slipped them together into the pocket of his coat. I warmed up instantly.
We walked in front of the orphanage, “I have one more present to deliver, can you wait for me right here?” I nodded and watched as Raymond ran away.
I looked around the small garden area and suddenly right before my eyes were small white flakes falling from above. I began to dance around excitedly, ‘It was snowing.’ I placed my hand out to catch the snow, however it didn’t melt. It finally registered, ‘The snow wasn’t real.’
Raymond reappeared, “Merry Christmas, I hope you like it.” I was absolutely touched. “I know it’s not the real thing, but…”
I shook my head, “It’s better than the real thing. Thank you.” I threw my arms around his neck.
“It’s not a problem. I just wanted you to be happy this Christmas.”
“I’m more than happy. You’ve shown me the real meaning behind Christmas. It’s about giving, sharing, celebration, and spending time with those you love and care about. Thank you.” We swayed back and forth dancing to the Christmas carols being played inside the orphanage.
“You do realize that we’re standing under the mistletoe.” I noted.
Raymond looked up and smiled at me, “Don’t worry, I won’t be taking advantage you again, though I must justify, last time I wasn’t trying to….”
I didn’t give him the chance to finish as I cupped both of my hands around his face and planted a passionate kiss right smack on his lips. When we parted I grinned widely at him, “There, I guess we’re even now, except I was purposely taking advantage of you.”
“Oh, so now you’re purposely taking advantage of me, huh?” A mischievous smile dazzled across his face. He swooped me off the ground into his arms.
“Hey, what are you doing? Put me down” I protested as I lightly hit his chest. “Where are you taking me?”
He playfully raised his eyebrow up and down, “You’ll see when we get there.” My heart began to race with excitement as there where Raymond was going to take me.

We arrived at one of the less known scenic views of Atlanta, but the sight was still as breathtaking as ever. Looking over the peak at the bustling city, the lights sparkled and glistened like twinkling stars.
“It’s so beautiful up here.” I commented.
“I’m glad you like it.” We sat on one of the wooden benches snuggling close to keep warm, “Wait here, I’ll be right back.” Five minutes later, Raymond returned with a styrofoam cup in his hand. We shared the cup of hot chocolate, I felt warm and fuzzy, but not because of the drink, but because I felt loved being with him.
“Thank you for giving me the most memorable Christmas.” He and I both smiled and leaned in for a kiss.
I felt something wet land on my face and I parted with Raymond to find snow falling. It was real snow! My first white Christmas! I jumped up and down with Raymond. This was the most wonderful moment of my life.
