Apparently, Jack and Myolie are related; they’re distant cousins of some sort on her father’s side of the family. Myolie said that her mother was friends with Jack’s mom so that’s why her parents are coming to attend the wedding. Plus they wanted to visit Myolie.
This will be my first time meeting them in the three years I have been together with Myolie. I’m a bit nervous, okay, fine, I’m extremely nervous. It was evident by the look of my pen. I’ve been gnawing at it like a beaver since the moment Myolie told me. I hope they like me.

“Okay, Mom likes to drink mocha lattes and eat American style breakfast. Sausages and eggs, English muffins, and pancakes are all her favorites.” Myolie listed.
I wrote down all the information Myolie was telling me so I knew what to cook and where to take her mom out to eat at.
“Her favorite food is Italian and she doesn’t eat red meat.” She reminded me again. “Her favorite dessert is tiramisu.” I nodded as I continued to write.
“So your mom is staying with you, what about your dad?” I asked.
Myolie thought for a bit, “I didn’t ask him, but I’m sure he’s booked a hotel. He didn’t mention anything about staying with me.”

Myolie double checked her watch again. “She’ll be here soon.” I assured. “Look, he comes a group of people, do you see her?” Myolie cranked her neck to spot her mom.
A woman wearing a pair of large framed sunglasses, a gray pencil skirt and the matching jacket, and a pair of black pumps waved, “Myolie.” She began walking over and Myolie left my side and excitedly ran over to her. I stood there observing the woman for a moment. My first thought was she looked young to be Myolie’s mother. I could help but notice the air of elegance she carried. I picked up my pace to catch up with Myolie.
The two hugged, “I’ve missed you.” Both women exchanged. “You’re never going to guess who I met on my flight.”
Myolie pondered about the possibilities, “I don’t know; who did you meet?”
Right then a tall, handsome, tanned skin male dressed in a navy blue pilot suit walked out, waved, and screamed from a distance, “Kai Gu Jei”
Myolie squinted her eyes, knitted her brows until she finally cried out, “Ronnie?” She was absolutely she it was him, “RONNIE!” she screamed again. He set down his large black briefcase and waited with open arms. I watched as she ran over and jumped into his arms. They embraced each other for minutes, several minutes; it was several long minutes.
He let go and began to eye Myolie from head to toe several times. Myolie playfully slapped his shoulder, “Stop looking at me with those perverted eyes of yours.”
“Oh come on, what part of your body have I not seen?” My eyes widen hearing the comment, had I heard wrong? Myolie smacked his arm. “Don’t you remember the days when we took baths together?” I was sure I didn’t hear wrong that time. What exactly was their relationship?
Myolie hit him again, “Shut up, that was like what, when we were two, maybe three years old.” I heaved a sigh of relief hearing that it was only during their toddler days.
“Man, you look nothing like the way I remember you, the Myolie I knew was a tomboy, and look at you now; you have long hair, stylish clothes, and high heels”
Myolie rolled her eyes, “I see you’ve changed quite a bit yourself.”
“More manly, more handsome, or are you referring to how I’m actually taller than you now.” He recalled the last time he’d seem Myolie was during her growth spur, so she was taller than him by a head and she often made fun of him. “So who’s the shorty now?”
Myolie stuck her tongue out at him, “Only by a few inches. Humph, maybe I was wrong, you haven’t changed at all, still as mean and rude as back then.”
They keep referring to this ‘back then’ period of time. How come Myolie’s never told me anything about this ‘dude’? I admit I was getting jealous of their relationship.
“Mom! Ron’s being mean to me again.” Myolie whined and complained like a child. Maggie only chuckled at the two’s behavior.
I could only watch as the three of them laughed, teased, and shared inside jokes. I felt so left out. I carried Myolie’s mother’s carry-on bag and follow behind them.
We went to the baggage claim to get Myolie’s mother’s suitcase. That Ron guy came along with us.
I stood with Maggie around the circulating conveyer belt, “You must be Raymond right?” She asked me; unfortunately I wasn’t paying attention because I kept looking over my shoulder at Myolie talking to Ron. “Raymond?” she called out again.
“Huh? Oh, I’m so sorry Auntie, did you see your bag?” I asked prepared to help her get it.
“No, not yet,” She smiled at me, “How long have you and Myolie been going out?”
“It’s been three years.” I answered, “We got together on Christmas three years ago.” She commented how it sounded romantic, but my attention had gone to Myolie and Ron again.
I took another glimpse at Myolie again who was covering her mouth laughing, “So, where have you been all these years? The last time I saw you, was when I was 12. I think I was living with my mom that year in Florida. It’s been,” she paused to calculate, “15 years since I last saw you, man I feel old.”
Ron laughed at Myolie, “I moved with my parents the following year to California where I finished up high school and college with a degree in engineering. Afterwards, I wanted a change so I moved to Hong Kong hoping to find a job.”
“So how did you become a pilot?” Myolie asked confused by how engineering lead to flying.
“I couldn’t find a job suitable for me at the time so I was planning on returning to the US, but then I noticed a commercial airline company was accepting students, so I went for an interview, got accepted and that what happened. What about you? What are you doing now?”
“I moved here to Atlanta 7 years ago, and I got my Masters in Business Administration a couple of years ago.”
I felt Maggie patting my arm, “Raymond, there’s my bag.” She pointed; quickly I reached out to grab the large black suitcase. At the same time, Myolie and Ron walked over.
Finally remembering about me Myolie introduced me, “I almost forgot, Mom, Ron, this is Raymond, my boyfriend. Raymond, this is my mom, Maggie, and my good friend, Ron Ng.” I shook his hand with Ron.
“Ron, where are you staying at? Do you need a ride?” Maggie asked.
“Transportation and accommodations have already been arranged for me by my company.” Ron answered politely.
“Do you want to go to dinner with us? We have a lot of catching up to do.”
“Yeah, sounds great, where are you guys going?” Myolie told him the restaurant name and gave him directions. “Okay, we’ll let me go to my hotel to change and I’ll meet you guys there about 6:30?”
Dinner was about the same as earlier, but this time I was included in the conversation a bit more. We shared some good laughs, at some pasta and headed home.
Myolie came over to my apartment, “Where’s your mom?” I asked.
“She’s taking a shower.” Myolie answered. “Mom told me she really liked you.” I smiled hearing that. It was comforting to know.
“So what’s your relationship with Ron, you guys seem close?” I asked.
“Ron’s grandparents are my mom’s god-parents, so Ron’s dad is my mom’s god-brother. My mom is Ron’s god-aunt,” she chuckled at the sound of it, “which makes Ron and I god-cousins.” It sounded like a very complicated family tree. “Okay, I better go back over before Mom starts to wonder where I’ve gone off to. Goodnight.”
I hugged her tightly and kissed the top of her hair, “Night to you too. Stay warm and sweet dreams.” I walked her back over to her apartment, even though it took all but five seconds, I was satisfied by being able to hold her hand during that time.
