Chapter 16

Ending 2

Two days later, Justin received another phone call telling him where to take the money. Again, he stormed into Amanda’s office after receiving the instructions, “What have you done with her? Just give her back to me and I won’t press charges.”

“If you really love her that much then just give them the money,” she suggested.

Something seemed different about Amanda today. She would always bad-mouthed Jenny each time, but she didn’t today, instead she seemed rather calm. “I’m warning you now, Amanda Lok, if anything happens to Jenny, I won’t let you get away.” He left furiously.

He arrived at the abandoned storage area which had become a wasteland. Walking around in search of Jenny, he finally found her tied up to a pole. He rushed up to her aid.

“Jenny, are you okay?” Justin asked as he pulled the piece of cloth out of her mouth. “Did they do anything to you?”

“I’m Amanda” she managed to cough out.

He was bewildered, “Amanda?”

“Justin, just leave now.” Amanda begged.

“Leave? But what’s happening? Who tied you up? I got a call that Jenny was kidnapped? Did they take you instead?” Question after question came out of Justin’s mouth. That could not be true though, he had just seen Amanda the day before in her office.

Amanda was only able to shake her head, “No, it was Jenny who….”

“Justin” another voiced called out.

He turned around, “Jenny?” he looked at the two women whom he was standing between. They looked exactly alike; they were dressed exactly alike, they even had the same hairstyle and everything. Only the woman standing further away, who just spoke, had on dark eye shadow, black fingernail polish, and was holding a gun in her hand.

“Justin, I feel hurt” she said placing one hand over her heart, “We were together for over three years and you can’t even recognize me and tell me apart from her?”

“Jenny, why are you acting this way? I don’t understand.”

Jenny scoffed, “Jenny, I don’t understand.” She mocked, “Justin you’ve always been so gullible.”

Justin frowned as he could not comprehend why sweet, innocent Jenny was speaking in such manner, “What are you talking about?”

“Why do you think I was with you to begin with? What did you think I wanted?”

“You only dated me because…”

“Of course it was because you had money, and it was what I wanted. Why else did you think your parents didn’t want us together? It was because they knew my background. Four years ago, they gave me money to leave you. It was quite a handsome fee so I accepted it and left.”

“You lied to me, but why?” He questioned

“I wouldn’t call that lying, Justin. I would call it acting,” she answered. “Did I never tell you that I was in the drama club back when I was in high school?”

“If you didn’t love me, then why did you come back after four years?”

“Why else? I came back to get more this time. Everything would have gone so well if my sister hadn’t been so soft hearted.” Jenny snickered, “I can’t believe the silly girl actually fell in love with you.”

“Your sister?” Justin was becoming confused.

“You really thought we weren’t related? Did you really think that there is such coincidence in the world that two people can look exactly alike?”

“When was it you and when was it Jenny?” Justin asked not taking his eyes off Amanda.

“It was me from the first day we met in your office until that day when Jenny appeared in the wheelchair at the restaurant.”

“All of it has been a lie? I’ve just been played this entire time?”

Amanda shook her head, “No, Justin…” tears were welled in her eyes, “Let me explain.”

“So everything was planned all along?” Justin questioned.

“Not all of it, I was actually planning to go look for you, but I happened to meet Amanda one day and learn that she was working with you. Coincidently, I found out that she was fond of you. I came up with an even better plan.”

Justin thought back to the first time when Amanda reminded him of Jenny, “It all started that night, when we stayed late at my company and I drove you home. All those small gestures, you did it on purpose…”

“Of course I taught her all that, I just had to make her remind you of me. My little sister sure does learn quickly. She’s quite intelligent too. Did you know she paid her way through university by scholarships and work studies? College graduate.” Jenny snickered again, “Bright future ahead of her. She’s always been the lucky one.”

“Why did you do it?” Justin asked looking at Amanda with hurt in his eyes.

Jenny answered for Amanda once again, “Do you think she did it voluntarily? Of course I made her do it. I pulled a simple guilt trip and I was able to manipulate her at the tip of my fingers.”

“I don’t get it.” Justin said.

“Our family wasn’t rich, so Amanda was sent to live with our grandmother when she was younger. That year we were fifteen, our grandmother called to tell us about sweet little Amanda getting a scholarship to go study overseas. Our parents were ecstatic; they went to go visit her but on their way there, they got into an accident. If it weren’t for her” Jenny pointed at Amanda, “I would still have my parents!”

Amanda felt ashamed, but Jenny was right, she was the cause of their parents’ death.

“Why didn’t you just come back directly?” he asked Jenny. “Why all the games and lying? Why did you pretend to be Jenny?” His question directed towards Amanda.

“I wanted to make sure that I still held that same spot in your heart, so I made Amanda get together with you. She told me that you didn’t like her, but I didn’t believe her, so she told me she would prove it to me by becoming me. I would watch you guys occasionally until I was satisfied. Her plan was that we would switch, but I had a change of plan and I wanted to get rid of Amanda Lok once and for all by making you hate her. Mandy did really love you, if you couldn’t feel it. She tried to make me stop, she was willing to give me any amount I wanted; too bad what she had wasn’t enough”

“If it’s money that you want then take it” Justin thruster the briefcase of cash to Jenny.

“That’s so kind of you, Justin, but I thought you loved me. Are you sure you want me out of your life forever?” Justin gave her a disgusted look.

Amanda took the chance while Justin was looking at Jenny and had become too absorbed with what she was saying. She hit him on the back of his head. He fell on the ground unconscious.

“You better leave now.” Amanda advised, “before Justin wakes up.” Jenny aimed the gun in the direction of Amanda and Justin. “Jenny, what are you doing? I thought we had said that you wouldn’t hurt Justin once you got the money.”

“Tisk tisk, Amanda. Did you really think that I would be so easily satisfied?”

“I should have known. What more do you want?”

“I want the money,” her lips curved into an evil smile, “and I want Justin.”

“You want Justin?” Amanda asked in disbelief.

“Of course, I met him first, and he loves me. You owe me, Amanda Lok! You killed my parents!”

“No, I don’t owe you anything anymore!” Amanda yelled back. “I am not going to let you use me anymore. Just leave now before the police come.” Amanda advised

Jenny started to laugh, “Leave? And lose everything? I think not.”

“Jenny, I’m begging you. I’ll give you the money and if that’s not enough, I’ll send you more later; I promise.”

Jenny laughed, “Why should I leave? I’ll be getting everything I want by just getting rid of you.”

Amanda strengthened up once again, “No, I am not going to let you dictate and control me anymore. And I definitely won’t let you have Justin.” The two women began to wrestle and in the mist of all the commotion a bullet was fired from the gun.

“Where am I?” Justin asked. He pushed himself to sit up on the bed before realizing that he was in his own bed. He suddenly remembered what had happened. “Amanda!” He started calling out.

“I’m right here.” She came into the bedroom with a wet towel.

He held her hand tightly, “Are you ok?” She nodded. He pulled her into an embrace and let go, “What happened to Jenny?”

“She got away.” Justin nodded, “I’m sorry.” She apologized.

“What for?”

“I let her go, I was the one who hit you from behind,” she admitted.

Justin shook his head, “Don’t worry about it, silly. As long as we’re both ok, that is all that matters.”

A week had passed. Life continued for both Amanda and Justin.

“I’m home, Amanda.” Justin announced as he walked in the door.

She walked out and gave him a hug, “How was work?”

“About the same as usual,” Justin casually answered. They had dinner, watched some television and called it a night.

Tonight, Justin suggested that Amanda stay over. “I better not,” Amanda declined.

Justin hugged her from behind and kissed her neck. “Come on, stay with me tonight.” He pleaded.

“I really have a lot of work I need to finish; I need to go back to my apartment.” Justin frowned. Seeing him act this way, she gave in. “Fine, I’ll stay.” He smiled and carried her to the bedroom.

Justin came out from the bathroom after a shower and found Amanda sitting on the bed. He found it odd as she was sitting on the left side of the bed. In the past, she had always slept on the right side of the bed.

“I pity you Amanda. All along, Justin thought you to be the impostor, but who would have guessed that I, Jenny Ching, am the real impostor. Don’t worry Mandy, I’ll take good care of all your possessions, your job, your money, and Justin.” She gave a sinister laugh before walking away from the grave.

Justin walked into the apartment with two officers. “What’s going on Justin?” Jenny asked innocently.

“I fell for it the first time, but I’ve learned better. I know you are Jenny Ching.”

“What are you talking about?” She continued to pretend. “Jenny got away, I’m Amanda.”

Justin looked away, “I cannot believe you would be so cold-hearted as to kill you own sister.”

The officer walked up to her, “I am senior inspector, Yoyo Mung; we have found evidence of you killing your sister, Amanda Lok.”

Her tone of voice changed, “How did you know I wasn’t Amanda?” She was curious as to what she did to give herself away. She had been extremely cautious.

“I spent a whole year with Amanda. I think I knew your sister better than you did.” He answered her coldly. “I’ve been watching you for the past few days, and I realized something.” He walked into the bedroom and returned with a large manila envelope. He handed it to her. She opened it and pulled out the contents. Scanning the information, it was a DNA report. Although it was a ninety-six percent match, there was a difference.

“That night when I asked you to stay, you slept on the other side of the bed. Then I watched your actions, the way you ate, the way you walked, the way you talked. Yes, you did an impressive job of pretending to be Amanda, but you weren’t her. You lacked the factor that represented Amanda, the twinkle in her eyes, the love in her voice, the kindness of her heart.”

“So, that’s when you went to run a DNA test on me?”

Justin nodded. Yoyo walked up and placed the handcuffs on Jenny’s wrist.

He listened as she re-accounted her actions as to what had happen.

“I shot her in the head, she died immediately. I knew Justin would be awaking sooner than I would be able to do anything with her body, so I hid her body.”

Jenny found an empty cabinet, and she dragged Amanda’s body over and pushed her inside. Then she found large pieces of cloth to wipe up any blood stains and threw them in with Amanda’s body.

Using all of her strength, she got Justin into his car and drove him home.

“Later I went back to deal with her body and destroyed any possible evidence. I placed her in the trunk of the car and drove to a secluded area where I buried her.”

“Her body isn’t at the grave, why did you even bother to make one?” Yoyo asked.

“I thought it would only be appropriate for me to have a grave for her. After all, if I were to have gotten away with all of this she would have been the one I should thank.”

Justin kneeled in front of her grave. “Amanda.” A tear fell from his eye.

Vivian placed a hand on his shoulder. “She’ll be able to rest in peace knowing that you found out the truth and caught the murderer for her.”

He sat in his apartment and began to pack away the last few items that belonged to Amanda that he never threw away in the past. He placed the box on the top shelf of the closet before sitting at the edge of his bed.

His cell phone rang. “Hello,” he answered

“Justin, are you ok?” Vivian asked on the other side of the line.

“Yeah, I’m fine, just a bit tired.” He paused, “Hey, Vivian. I think I’m going to head to bed soon; tell Tong Tong good night for me.”

He looked through his cell phone and found a few pictures that Amanda had taken of herself. A smile formed on his face seeing her cute expressions. He accidentally hit a button and a voice recording began playing. “Hey, handsome. Hope you are having a sweet day.” Another small smile began forming on his face just hearing her voice.

He wanted to replay the recording again, but he noticed another recording, “I just called to tell you that I miss you and I love you from the bottom of my heart.”

He started to cry and re-listened the message over and over again. “I never,” he became choked on his words, “I never told her I love her.” He regretted never being able to tell her in person ever again. “I love you, Amanda.” He hoped that she could hear his words right now no matter where she is.

Yay! I finally finished! Man, when I first began to write this story almost a year ago I had the ending all thought out but since I never really wrote it out I had forgotten what I had wanted the story to be like anymore so I am not as satisfied with this ending….

I originally wanted to have two endings, which I know I did, but one was suppose to be Amanda being bad and the other was Jenny being bad. Then I changed my mind and wanted Jenny to be bad all the way. I was originally going to leave it at Jenny getting away with being the impostor but I didn’t want our cutie Justin to end up with a killer, so I decided to have Jenny be caught.

After having so many sad stories I wanted something semi-happy so that is why there is a happy ending and a tragedy ending. Personally, I like the sad ending instead. Haha, very weird considering I usually do like happy endings.

Hope you all enjoyed this story as much as I did writing it. Out of all my stories, this one might be my favorite one so far (in terms of characters and the storyline) though I know I could have made it better.

Thanks to everyone for your support all this time!!!!!!
