“A present for me?” Amanda asked surprised, “What is it?” Tong Tong reached into her backpack and pulled out the piece of paper. Amanda curiously opened it up and chuckled at the drawing. “Why thank you Tong Tong.”
“This is you and this is Uncle Justin” Tong Tong eagerly explained her drawing of a girl in a dress holding hands with a guy in a suit.
“What’s this?” Amanda asked as she pointed to what looked like a basket.
“That’s a baby for you and Uncle Justin.” Tong Tong told her. Justin almost choked on his drink.
“And why is the baby in a basket?” Amanda asked curiously.
“During story time the other day, we were told a story that a big bird brings babies in baskets for people who love each other.” Amanda smiled at the explanation, “Will you and Uncle Justin have a baby.” Tong Tong asked innocently. “I promise to help you guys take care of it.” She quickly added.
Justin ruffled Tong Tong’s hair, “Pumpkin, why don’t you tell Auntie Amanda about what you learned at school yesterday.” Justin quickly changed the subject and smiled nervously at Amanda.

“Where did you take my daughter out to today?” Vivian questioned.
“We had lunch with Auntie Amanda.” Tong Tong anwered.
“Oooooo, so you had a lunch date! What happen?”
“What do you mean what happened. We had lunch, and I would not classify that as a date.”
“Well, do you like her?”
“I….I don’t know. Amanda is very straightforward and we get along really well, but….”
“Justin, you can’t be so wishy-washy with your feelings. Women don’t like that in men. Either you like her or you don’t, make up you mind. There is nothing more a woman hates then to have a man wasting her time.” Vivian advised her brother.

Justin returned home and mindlessly flipped through the channels thinking about what Vivian had said. She was right. He shouldn’t be so wishy-washy about his feelings. He couldn’t deny that he had a lot of fun whenever he’s with Amanda. He had not felt so happy in a really long time.

Amanda pushed her shopping cart around in the supermarket and as she was going down an aisle she bumped her cart into someone else’s.
“You’re Amanda, right?” the person asked.
She nodded, “And you are Tong Tong’s mother.” Vivian nodded in returned to Amanda’s question.
“It’s really nice to meet you. Tong Tong really likes you. She talks about you all the time.”
“She’s absolutely precious. I enjoy spending time with her too.”
Vivian could not help but notice all the instant noodle packages in Amanda’s shopping cart, “You’re not planning to have all those for dinner are you?”
Amanda let out a half sigh, “I don’t have much of a choice, by the time I get off work some days I’m just too tired to cook and since it’s only for myself….”
“Well, if you are not afraid of trying my cooking, why don’t you come over to my place for dinner tonight? I’m sure Tong Tong would love to see you.”
“I can’t reject an offer like that, can I?”

“Mommy!” Tong Tong shouted as she heard the doorknob turn.
“What took you so long?” Justin asked as he walked out from Tong Tong’s room, where they had been playing earlier. “We thought you got lost at the supermarket.” He teased and when he got to the living room he saw Amanda standing there, “Hi.” He was lost for words.
“I invited Amanda to dinner.” Vivian told him. She gave Justin a mischievous smile. ”Come on Tong Tong, you can help mommy put away the groceries and cook dinner.” Tong Tong happily skipped after Vivian into the kitchen.
“Do you need some help?” Amanda offered.
Justin pulled her over to the sofa, “Have a seat and relax. Vivian’s got it under control. She’s a kitchen control freak, she doesn’t like other people in there when she is.” He joked.
Minutes later Tong Tong carried a cup of tea out for Amanda. As she accepted the cup, Tong Tong asked, “What happened to your hand Auntie Amanda?”
She looked down and noticed a cut, “I must have injured it earlier.”
“Tong Tong, will you go get me a band-aid.” Justin instructed. Tong Tong returned and handed Justin the band-aid. He carefully helped Amanda put it on.
“Uncle Justin, aren’t you going to kiss Auntie Amanda’s boo boo to make it all better? You always kiss my ouchies.”
Amanda smiled, “Why don’t you kiss it for me Tong Tong?”
Tong Tong kissed it and looked at Justin, “Your turn.” Justin held Amanda’s hand and kissed the band-aid.
They sat in awkward silence until Vivian announced that it was time for dinner.
“You’re cooking was excellent.” Amanda complimented at the end of dinner.
“Since you have slaved over dinner for us, I shall do the dishes.” Justin began collecting the dishes.
“I’ll help you.” Amanda offered.
Vivian pulled her back, “Let him do it Amanda, he never offers to help me do the chores. It is only because you are here.” She laughed. Amanda nodded and joined Vivian out in the balcony for some fresh air.
“You and Justin seem to have a really good sibling relationship.” Amanda noted.
Vivian nodded, “I got pregnant at a young age. It was right before I finished my last year in high school. My parents kicked me out of the house, but luckily Justin took care of me. He helped me get an apartment and a job. Then he helped put me through school, otherwise I wouldn’t have what I have now. I probably wouldn’t even be able to support Tong Tong and myself.” Vivian looked over her shoulder at Justin who was in the kitchen pulling on a pair of yellow, rubber gloves, “Justin is still forever wonderful, as he will agree to help me watch Tong Tong whenever I am busy.” Vivian got a bit sentimental, The hard times have passed.” She gave Amanda a smile, “My brother is a really great guy.”
Amanda returned the smile, “I know.” She simply replied.
