Shawn~ (tryig to catch his breath) What...The heck...are...you...doing here?
Sa~ (tears are trapped inside her eyes) You must be happy now.
Shawn~ Happy about what?
Sa~ Happy that Ed turned me down and I won't be following you anymore.
Shawn~ (sits on the swing next to Charlene) Why would I be happy? Ed is sad when he talks about you and Gillian. I hate seeing him like that. Any way, he told me to tell you that he is sorry about this...this relationship. He wanted to telll you about he liking Gillian than you for a long time, but he never has the guts to do it.
Sa~ (looks directly at Shawn) Why didn't he come directly to me and say it?
Shawn~ (thinking hard for a reason) Well, that's because...
Sa~ That's because he's with Gillian, right? (looks down at her feet)
Shawn~ Oh, no he isn't. Actually, he's at home right now.
Sa~ You liar!
Shawn~ Say whatever you feel like.
(Charlene stands in front of Shawn and pulls him away from the swing.)
Sa~ Tell me. Why does Ed choose Gillian instead than me? Why? Tell me why!?
Shawn~ (smiles without looking at her) Well, honestly, she's a sweet, cute girl. (realizes that he shouldn't have say such a thing) I mean...Ed likes that type of girl.
(Charlene leans on Shawn's shoulder and bursts into tears. Shawn pats her on the back while she cries.)
Shawn~ Why don't we start going back to your house before a raper comes along.
(Shawn walks with Charlene back to her house after she calms down from the crying.)
~~ Next Day ~~
Sa~ What?! You must be kidding! You've never been absent before, Joey.
(Charlene's talking to Joey on her phone while putting on her school uniform.)
Sa~ Who'll be walking to the bus stop with me?
Joey~ Calm down, would you? It's only one day. I'll be back by tomorrow, ok? Got to go now. Bye. (hang up)
Sa~ (to herself) That's nice of her. Don't let me know that you're skipping school today, Joey.
(Charlene stops walking when she sees Shawn standing in front of the building she lives in.)
Shawn~ (looks at his watch) It's about time for you to get down here. Don't your mom rushes you?
Sa~ I (fixes her hair)I live by myself. My parents are divorced. My mom lives in London while my dad lives in California.
Shawn~ Oh...cool. Good for you. Hey, whoever reaches the bus stop last will...(Charlene begins to run.) Hey, you're cheating.
(Charlene turns to look at Shawn and sticks her tongue out without stop running. Shawn and Charlene becomes friends that instand, but they tend to argue once in two conversations.)
~Cafe after School~
Shawn~ I see that you're still refusing to talk to your cute little friend Gillian.
Sa~ Who told her to take Ed away from me.
Shawn~ (looks up at Charlene) Who says Gillian took Ed away from you?
Sa~ I know, I know.
Shawn~ Then stop refusing to talk to her.
Sa~ Why do you care?
Shawn~ I'm only concern about my friend's feelings. She really wants to be your friend again.
Sa~ I'll think about it. (begins to eat her cheesecake)
(At the same time, Gillian and Kary are still in school.)
Kary~ Um...I have a question, Ar Gill. What are we doing here?
Gill~ Just listen to me, Kary. You've gotta believe me.
Kary~ Just tell me what're we going to do.
Gill~ You'll find out soon...(grabs Kary's arm) I've gotta talk to him...(blocks Ed from walking any further) Ed, I've gotta talk to you, (looks at the guy standing next to Ed) pirvately.
Ed~ Yeah, sure. Why not. Um...(the guy next to Ed walks away.) Thanks Kenny.
Gill~ Um...Kary (Kary points at herself) Please!
Kary~ Sure. (walks to where Kenny is standing)
Ed~ I'm so glad you're not avoiding me any more. So, what is it you want to talk to me about?
Gill~ (takes a deep breath and spills out) I really don't like you the way you do.
Ed~ What?! I...I don't understand.
Gill~ I mean...(scratches her head) I only see you as my friend. Nothing else.
Ed~ (looks disappointed) Well, it's not like I'm forcing you to be my girlfriend or anything.
Gill~ To tell you the truth, I'm actuallynot ready to go out with anyone yet. But, we can still be friends, right?
Ed~ Course, why not.
(Just then Gillian's rings.)
Gill~ Hello? (pause) Oh, sure. Be right there. Bye. (hang up)
Ed~ Who is it?
Gill~ Shawn. He told us to meet him at the old place. Wanna come with us?
(Shawn waves his hand when he sees Gillian and Kary.)
Shawn~ (hits Ed on the arm) Hey. How'you know we're meeting here?
Ed~ I was beside Gill when you call her.
Shawn~ (moving hie eyebrows up and down and whispers) What were you doing, huh?
Ed~ Nothing. Just talking.
Shawn~ (rises his eyebrows) Oh, really?
Ed~ (ignores Shawn) Hi, Charlene.
Sa~ Hi, Ed. How're you doing?
Kary~ (walks to the empty chair next to Charlene and is about to sit on it when Charlene puts her back-pack on it) Hey! What did you do that for?
Sa~ Kary! You should know better! Gillian always sits next to me!
Gill~ Kary, will you please move?
Kary~ (sticks her tongue out and sits next to Gillian while Ed sits across from Gillian) Meanie!
Sa~ (shakes Gillian's hand) Congrats Gill. (shakes Ed's hand) Congrats Ed. You two do make a nice couple.
Gill~ You've mistaken our relationship, Charlene. We're only friends, nothing more than that. (Ed just nods his head)
Sa~ (ignores what Gill just says) Gill, do you mind if I punch your boyfriend?
Gill~ Charlene! I just said that...
Sa~ That you two are only friends, right? I heard that. I'm not deaf.
Ed~ Charlene, go ahead. Anything that'll make you happy.
(Charlene walks to where Ed is and hits him gently on the arm. Just then, Joey enters the cafe.)
Joey~ Hi, people. Long time no see.
Sa~ Where were you today?
Kary~ I know. You weren't at school today!
Joey~ Don't tell anyone, ok? (whispers)I went to a F4's function. I even took some pictures of them. Show them to you people later.
Kary~ What?! (looks around if anyone other than her friends are listening) You've actually skipped school just to attend to those four non-handsome guys? That's stupid!
Joey~ Hey, watch your mouth, Kary. Will you?
Gill~ Joey! You shouldn't have done that. How will you get your absent excused? You need a parent's signature or a doctor's signature to be excues for the day though.
Joey~ Well, I did see a doctor, and he just happened to sign my note so there's nothing to worry about.
~ Chapter finnish ~
