It was nine o’clock in the Saturday morning. Roger yawned lazily and tilted his head and gazed at Flora smilingly. He stretches out his arms and encircled his little angel tautly into his embrace. His action woke the girl up. She opens her eyes gradually.
ROGER: (smilingly) Good morning.
FLORA: (shocked, releases herself from his embrace) Oh my god! What happened yesterday night?
ROGER: (grinning) What do you think, my dear?
FLORA: (recalling) I was drunk…
ROGER: Uh huh, and?
FLORA: And, I… I don't know… (worriedly) Did you…
ROGER: Of course I did!
FLORA: You!
ROGER: Of course I did carried you onto my bed to rest but since you landed yourself on me, so I thought it wasn’t a bad idea for me to join you! (winks)
FLORA: (gasped in relief) That’s all?
ROGER: (pouts) What kind of person do you perceive me as? Hey, I’m a perfect gentleman, mind you!
FLORA: Sorry, I didn’t mean that, but…
ROGER: But what? We’re getting married in 2 months’ time and it doesn’t really matter even if I… (pauses) Unless someone has a change of heart.
FLORA: Of course not, silly. Ok, I’m sorry. (gives him a peck on the cheek)
ROGER: (pouts) That’s not sincere!
FLORA: (pouts) Then what do you want?
ROGER: (thinking) Erm…
FLORA: (looking at the clock) Oh no, it’s 9.20 a.m.? I am meeting one of my students at 10! (gets up hastily)
ROGER: Hey! What about me? Today is Saturday!
FLORA: My car is not here, can you drive me there? (looks at him) Please?
ROGER: Ok, I want a reward later.
FLORA: (smiles) Whatever you say!

(Same day – 2.30 p.m. – outside campus)
ROGER: (besides his Mercedes) Hey, what took you so long?
FLORA: Sorry, my student went a bit engrossed.
ROGER: (pouts) So did you! (opens the car door) Get in, I’ll bring you to somewhere.
FLORA: My favorite place?
ROGER: (winks) Our favorite place! (cell phone rings) Hello? Huh? How did this happen? (gasping) Ok, I’ll be right back, keep an eye on him. (hangs up) I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you, Flora.
FLORA: What happened?
ROGER: Something cropped up at KK, I need to rush back. It seems that someone is stirring up trouble there.
FLORA: I’ll go with you!
ROGER: (smiles) Ok.

(KK – Roger’s family pharmaceutical company – 3.05 p.m.)
ROGER: (walking to his secretary) What happened? Where is that guy?
JESSICA: (rushing up to him) Hey, Roger, good to see you, that guy is in your office. I managed to calm him down somehow.
ROGER: Ok, thanks, Jess! Really can’t do without you! (to Jess and Flora) Let’s go in!
(Roger’s office)
ROGER: (to the guy) Excuse me, may I know…
GALLEN: (agitated) Where is Nick Kwok? You better hand him over at once!
ROGER: (confused) Huh? What happened? Why are you looking for Nick? He’s not here!
GALLEN: Your precious brother, he stole my girlfriend! And both of them are missing now!
FLORA: Erm, excuse me, Mr. Yip, if I’m not mistaken?
GALLEN: Who are you? what do you want?
FLORA: Erm, Roger’s my fiancé. Perhaps there is some miscommunication somewhere?
GALLEN: There is not miscommunication! I saw with my own eyes that my girlfriend went into his brother’s car and they drove away!
ROGER: (cell phone rings again) Hello? Nick? Where are you now?
GALLEN: What? Hand it to me! (trying to grab his phone)
ROGER: Hold on! Let me clear it out with him. (into the phone) Hello, Nick, someone came to KK and said you stole his girlfriend, now what’s happening?
{NICK: Sorry, Gor, I don't know how to explain this but I’m now at the airport.}
ROGER: (shocked) What? Airport?
GALLEN: (grabbed Roger’s phone) Hello! Nick Kwok! Where are you going with Maggie?
{NICK: We are going away for a while.}
GALLEN: Ask her to the phone. I want to speak to her.
{NICK: Ok. (to Maggie) He wants to speak to you. (passes her the phone)}
{MAGGIE: Hello, Gallen? I’m sorry for doing this but you should know the problems that exist between us all along.}
GALLEN: (angry) Now what do you mean? You are pushing all the blame on me when you had a change of heart?
{MAGGIE: (sad) Gallen! You know how you have been treating me all this while! Have you ever shown concern for me? Have you ever treated me like your girlfriend? Where were you when I was sick and alone? Where were you when I most needed console? You were with all your fair-weathered friends, drinking and chatting away!}
GALLEN: (guilty) I…
{MAGGIE: I’m sorry, Gallen. But I really see no future and security in someone like you. Take care of yourself. Goodbye. (hangs up)}
GALLEN: (passes back the phone to Roger) I’m sorry. Sorry for disturbing you. (walks out dispiritedly)
ROGER: Flora? You know him?
FLORA: He’s Ada’s favorite author, Gallen Yip, but I wonder what happened exactly.
JESSICA: Luckily it’s over! (to Roger) He was barging in just now like some lunatic and demanding to see Nick, so I called you.
ROGER: (smiles) Nothing unusual, Gallen Yip is said to be temperamental and eccentric!
FLORA: I guess so…

(Same day – Flora’s house – 8.30 p.m.)
JOE: (opening the door for Flora) Hey, Flora! Why weren’t you back yesterday night? Stayed over at Roger’s?
FLORA: Yup, why?
JOE: (grinning) Bet you two have a sweet time yesterday!
FLORA: Hey! It wasn’t what you’re thinking! I got drunk and so I stayed over, nothing more!
JOE: Ok, fine! By the way, Ada is here.
ADA: (walking out from kitchen) Talking about me? (to Flora) You’re finally back! Waiting for you since 6!
FLORA: Ooops, sorry! I forgot the time.
ADA: (sitting down on the sofa) Yeah! You only remember your hubby!
FLORA: Hey! That wasn’t true! (recalls) By the way, your Gallen Yip stormed into KK just now!
ADA: (sit up) What happened?
FLORA: Looking for Nick! Seems that his girlfriend has gone away with Nick!
ADA: Oh my god! (sad) Then he must be really heartbroken. Poor my Gallen!
FLORA: How do you know he is the innocent party?
ADA: Hmmm… I like what he said, “Love is like a flight of stairs; you can choose to climb up or down, but sometimes you are forced to go the opposite way. When the time comes, just take it easy, and you may find a surprise ahead of you.”
JOE: (rebuking) Stairs his head la! What kind of nonsense theory is this?
ADA: Hey, don’t you ever dare to insult my idol or I'll kill you!
FLORA: I understand but what has it got to do with his matter?
ADA: (grinning) Nope, I was wondering if only I have the chance to tell him that…
FLORA: That you are the surprise awaiting him? Oh my god, Ada, congratulations!
ADA: (confused) What?
FLORA: I thereby grant you the permission to be a guinea pig of my psychology students’ group.
JOE: Huh?
FLORA: Well, they need people who daydream as research participants for their study!

(Gallen’s place – 12.45 a.m.)
RAYMOND: (responding to the hasty sounding of the doorbells) Gor? Why are you so drunk? (helps him in)
GALLEN: (drunkenly) Ray… She is gone, gone…
RAYMOND: Huh? I have no idea what you are talking about… (helps him to the room) I’ll get you a hot towel and some ginger tea. (walks away)
GALLEN: (muttering) How do you know I never cared? How do you know I have no plans for the future?
Gallen got himself up and sat swayingly on the bed, stretching his hand for the drawer, but fell down instantly the next second.
RAYMOND: (fetching the items) Gor… Gor… wake up. (shakes his head) I’ll better let you rest. Never have I seen you so crestfallen before!
Raymond picks Gallen up and rested him gingerly on his bed, placing the towel over his head and pulling the blanket up to cover him. He wonders what has landed his confident brother into such a sorry state…
