(9 June 2004 – Wednesday – Chan’s apartment)

Flora was reading her book on the sofa but appears seemingly absent-minded. It was nine on the clock and Joe had not yet shown his face. Usually by this time he would be transformed automatically into a crouch potato munching on his never ending tidbits, behaving like a spoil young master engaging in his weekend indulgence. The doorbell rang. That Joe! He must have forgotten his keys again! She saunters to the door and opens it.

FLORA: Gor! You’re finally back! I…

ADA: It’s me! Not your dear brother!

FLORA: (sticking her head out and looking around Ada) Where is he?

ADA: (chuckles) That's weird, since when did you start to miss him? (closes the door and proceeds to the sofa)

FLORA: (sits down) Nope, it’s quite strange he’s still not home by this time. (mumbles) And I need his help…

ADA: Ah! Someone has finally revealed her real motive huh? (wonders) But what can he help you?

FLORA: I need a painting from him!

ADA: My god, you trust his works?

FLORA: (pouts) Hey, don’t insult my Gor!

ADA: Hahaha… very ‘deep’ sibling love I see here. But he’s not going to be back anywhere soon.

FLORA: Why? How did you know?

ADA: I sent him on a mission!

FLORA: (confused) Huh?

ADA: Nah… it’s nothing, just to keep an eye on Jess!

FLORA: Gosh, sis! You must have nothing better to do!

ADA: Look what I’ve got myself into for helping you, ungrateful lass!

FLORA: Awww… I’m kidding, ok?

ADA: (pinches her) Forgive you! (smiles) Anyway, why do you need a painting of yourself? (teasingly) Planning to hang it in the campus hall to hook handsome guys ah?

FLORA: Hey! I didn’t say it was a self portrait. I need an abstract drawing, to express certain kinds of confused feelings.

ADA: (guessing) Exhibition?

FLORA: Nah… Gallen needs it.

ADA: (sits up) Gallen? And what has it got to do with you?

FLORA: Nope, he wanted me to help with his latest novel, ‘Dissect Thy Heart’.

ADA: (mutters) I bet he wants to dissect YOUR heart!

FLORA: Huh?

ADA: Why did you agree to help him? Do you need to reconsider?

FLORA: Huh? (bewildered) Why do you speak like… Ray?

ADA: It’s so obvious, Miss Chan!

FLORA: (bemused) Huh?

ADA: (sighs) Ok, I have nothing to say! You’re so naïve and innocent!

FLORA: (shrugs, still confused) So when will Gor be back?

ADA: Get a life, Flora!

Ada looked at her anxious friend and had a bad premonition about the latter’s upcoming wedding in 3 weeks’ time. She just hopes everything she imagined was purely imagination.

(10 June 2004 – Thursday – campus – Prof Chan’s office)

GALLEN: You look like you do have lots of undone work, am I disturbing you here?

FLORA: Yes you are, and you may go!

GALLEN: (stands up) Ok, then I won’t intrude on you further.

FLORA: (calling) Hey! You have no sense of humor at all!

GALLEN: (turns back and grin) Just playing along with you, silly!

FLORA: (rolls her eyes) Yeah right! (spoke crisply) So, what other questions do you have?

GALLEN: Erm… basically that’s all for today.

FLORA: Today? That means you’re going to come in and disturb me still?

GALLEN: Erm… theoretically, yes! (raises his eyebrow) You promise Ray to help me, didn’t you? And he mentioned that you are quite free recently…

FLORA: That doesn’t mean I have to spend my time entertaining you, Mr. Yip!

GALLEN: (sourly) Yeah, you have to accompany your hubby. (looks at his watch) It’s almost six, I’d better get going and not be a gooseberry.

FLORA: (smiles) You won’t! Roger’s not free today!

GALLEN: (eyes lit up) Really? Then do I have the honor…

FLORA: Yes, your treat! I’m famished!

GALLEN: Of course! Then where are we going?

FLORA: Did you drive here?

GALLEN: Nope.

FLORA: Then follow me!

(same day – 7.20 p.m. – after dinner –Flora’s car)

FLORA: That was a great dinner, thanks!

GALLEN: Of course, it cost over a thousand bucks, how bad can it be?

FLORA: You can’t bear to part with your money? Then I’ll pay you back!

GALLEN: Of course not! (grins) As long as you’re happy, it’s worth it!

FLORA: Count yourself lucky I didn’t charge you any consultation fee!

GALLEN: (smiles) Erm… is Roger very busy recently?

FLORA: Erm… quite. They have a new project to follow.

GALLEN: So you are heading home now?

FLORA: (smiles) Don’t worry, I’ll send you home first!

GALLEN: (pouts) But I don’t want to go home yet!

FLORA: Shouldn’t you go home and work on your novel?

GALLEN: I need some inspiration, can we go somewhere?

FLORA: Where?

GALLEN: You drive, I’ll lead the way.

(Seaside)

FLORA: What are we doing here?

GALLEN: (pulls her hand along) Come, let’s sit down.

FLORA: Huh? On the sand?

GALLEN: Uh huh, what’s wrong? (sits down) Take off your shoes too!

FLORA: Huh? Why?

GALLEN: (smiles) It’ll help you to relax, and it’s more comfortable!

FLORA: (doubting) Are you sure?

GALLEN: Very sure, little piglet! Come on!

FLORA: (sits down) Hey, don’t call me by that name!

GALLEN: Why? I like it, it’s cute! (grinning) And there’s nobody around, don’t be shy!

FLORA: Nobody around? (looks around) You think those people are ghosts?

GALLEN: Yep yep, you have the third eye, so you could see them. (head high up) Well, I can’t! (closes his eyes and breathes in)

FLORA: I really don't know what I am doing here with you! There are ants crawling around and the mosquitoes. (hitting her hand) Ouch!

GALLEN: (shakes his head) You are not at all romantic! And you looked so stressed up!

FLORA: (yawns) Boring this is!

GALLEN: (rebuking) This is called enjoying life, little piglet! It’s only eight something and you are yawning away? (pouts) Am I that boring?

FLORA: (grins) Sorry, but I sleep early. And I’m tired!

GALLEN: I can tell. Why not I give you a massage?

FLORA: (knitting her brown) Are you sure you know how to do it?

GALLEN: How dare you look down on me, little piglet! Turn around and let me show you!

She rolls her eyes smilingly and turned her back against him. Stretching his hands skillfully and confidently, he slowly places his hands on her shoulders. Then he suddenly withdrew his hands, when he thought he senses some electric current.

FLORA: (turns around) What’s wrong?

GALLEN: (stammering) Erm... nothing…a…a mosquito bit me!

FLORA: (grins) Serves you right for choosing to come here!

He blushes slightly, then signaled her to turn around again, while he places his stable hands on her shoulder and begins the massage. She closes her eyes and enjoys the smooth movements of his hands.

GALLEN: Your muscles are so tense, relax! Arh… I think you should go for aromatherapy, next time I’ll go with you?

FLORA: (still closing her eyes) Whatever you say, just don’t stop…

After the massage, Flora stretches her hands in the air and later places them at her back, supporting her.

GALLEN: (smiles) So how was my skill?

FLORA: Fantastic! You can set up a business, and I’ll be your first customer! (yawns) But I’m still sleepy. Lend me your shoulder!

She then leans gently on his left shoulder and closes her eyes comfortably. He adjusts his position a bit to accommodate her head. He gazes at her slow-wittedly and his face starts to move towards hers like a NS magnet…
