(16 June 2004 – Wednesday – Tsim Sha Tsui Square)
Joe was fulfilling his promise to Ada and shadowing Jessica when he suddenly lost sight of her. A voice called out after him.
JESSICA: (calling out) Joe Chan! Why are you tailing me?
JOE: (feigning ignorance) Huh? I didn’t! I was just… passing by… who has the time to tail you?
JESSICA: You are such a bad liar and a bad detective! You think I don't know that you have been following me for a week?
JOE: I…
JESSICA: Woman’s intuition, sir! Who asked you to do that, exactly?
JOE: Erh… no one did! It’s my own idea!
JESSICA: And why are you following me?
JOE: I just want to see whether you and Roger are up to any hanky panky…
JESSICA: (sighs) That's all? Then you can end your job! I can just tell you the answer… No!
JOE: If she does believe you, I wouldn’t have to tail you!
JESSICA: She? Who is she? Flora? She asked you to tail me? She asked you to do this ridiculous job? (agitated) If she doesn’t trust Roger, then she shouldn’t have been with him all this while! Do you know how I envy her? She has someone like Roger who is so good to her!
JOE: No, no! Calm down, it’s not Flora!
JESSICA: Then who is it? (recalling and guessing) Ada? It must be her! she was questioning me that time!
JOE: But you are guilty, aren’t you?
JESSICA: Yes, I tried! I tried to get closer to him, but failed!
JOE: Huh? You mean…
JESSICA: You still remember we disappeared on Julian and Annie’s wedding party?
JOE: Uh huh. Flora was so gloomy the whole night. When did you two go exactly?
JESSICA: We went for a drink, and he told me all about him and Flora. How they met, how they fell in love… I felt so sour. From the look in his eyes, from the way he speaks, I know he can’t place another person in his heart. How I wish I had met him earlier. A man like him is almost extinct!
JOE: Oh! We were wondering where you two went!
JESSICA: Then after that, he sent me home. But I had a sleepless night. The next day, I thought about it and decided to give up. I know we are not fated for each other!
JOE: (sighs in relief) Finally the truth is clear. I can end my mission now!
JESSICA: (eyeing him) By the way, how come you agree to help Ada? Do you like her?
JOE: How come you know everything? Intuition again?
JESSICA: Yup.
JOE: (smiles) I think you’re a frank person. Ada should have trusted you! After all, you two are sisters!
JESSICA: (smiles) But I do think she gets along better with your sister!
JOE: True, though! You know something?
JESSICA: What?
JOE: You should smile more often! You looks so cold when you’re keeping a straight face! And you looks so hot when you’re smiling!
JESSICA: (chuckles) Your nonsense again!
JOE: Seriously, life is short! So why don’t we spend each day meaningfully and happily? You don’t need to show everybody a straight face as if the whole world owes you a debt!
JESSICA: I found something too!
JOE: (grins) About me?
JESSICA: Yup. I always thought you were just a self-centered artist and… don’t be offended…
JOE: Don’t worry, I won’t! Just speak your mind!
JESSICA: And a useless bum! Because you’re always borrowing from Roger!
JOE: Whoa, your words hurt!
JESSICA: (apologetic) Sorry! But I have changed my perception now! I find that you are actually happy-go-lucky!
JOE: (grins) Beginning to like me?
JESSICA: Whoa, you are surely thick-skinned!
JOE: (chuckles) I can’t believe we can get along!
JESSICA: (shaking her head) Me neither!

(17 June 2004 - Thursday – streets)
BOSCO: (calling) Ray!
RAYMOND: Bosco? What a coincidence! Where’s Michelle?
BOSCO: Why would Michelle be with me? Let me introduce, this is Leila, my girlfriend!
LEILA: (shakes her hand) Hi, nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you!
RAYMOND: (confused) How come… I thought you were with Michelle? You went to Vienna with her…
BOSCO: Yes, I did. But we weren’t dating! That time, she was angry with you for not keeping her in HK.
RAYMOND: Then why did you two return together now?
BOSCO: We didn’t! I returned with Leila, I met her there in Vienna. As for Michelle, she went to France 3 months ago and I think she just happened to return recently, we didn’t return together, that’s for sure!
LEILA: (smiles) Don’t worry, Ray! There is nothing between Bosco and Michelle!
BOSCO: Yup, nothing at all! She hadn’t attached herself to anyone yet, so I think you do bear a chance!
LEILA: Yup, cherish the chance, Ray!
RAYMOND: Thanks!

(same day – Thursday – Yip’s residence – 7.25 p.m.)
RAYMOND: (opening the door) Gor! I have a piece of great news!
GALLEN: (grins) Really? You found gold?
RAYMOND: I found Michelle!
GALLEN: I found her too!
RAYMOND: Huh?
GALLEN: You’re weird, isn’t she all along in HK? Why do you have to ‘find’ her? I meant, I saw her.
FLORA: (coming out from kitchen) Hi, Ray! (to Gallen) Where’s your cola? I don’t see any!
GALLEN: (shouting) Coming! (standing up)
RAYMOND: Gor! What is Prof Chan doing here? Don’t tell me you two…
GALLEN: What are you thinking of, Ray? She’s just joining us for dinner! In fact, we’ll have more people joining us soon!
RAYMOND: Huh? Who else?
GALLEN: Nosey Queen and the bunch!
FLORA: (calling) Hey, I am thirsty!
RAYMOND: (shaking his head) Calling you, Gor!
GALLEN: (smiles) The doorbell is ringing, answer it for me please. (proceed to kitchen)
FLORA: (searching the fridge) Do you need to hide your drinks like treasures?
GALLEN: (lowering his body slightly behind her, peeking) It’s at the third row, inside.
FLORA: (still searching) Where?
GALLEN: (chuckles) I can’t imagine you spending ten minutes finding a can of cola in my fridge!
FLORA: (corrected stubbornly) Eight minutes!
GALLEN: (laughs) Oh my god, and you actually counted!
FLORA: Forget it, I give up. You’ll take it…
Just as she stands up and turns around, her lips accidentally touches his and she retreats a step and almost loses her balance. He uses his right hand to hold her back deftly. But perhaps he was too forceful, as she actually lands into his embrace, and this time, their lips fixes on each others’ like jigsaw puzzle. Subconsciously, he responded by tightening the embrace and deepening the kiss. She pushes him away in shock. She looks around and was relieved no one saw them.
FLORA: (awkwardly) Excuse me… I just recalled I’m some undone work at home, I’ll take my leave first… (walks away)
GALLEN: I’m sorry… Wait…
But she was already gone, as Raymond had opened the door conveniently and Flora happened to brush through Francis before trotting into the lift.
FRANCIS: (to Ray) Whoa, who’s that pretty girl storming out?
RAYMOND: A professor in my college, also my Dai Gor’s friend, why?
On the other hand, Flora and Gallen thought nobody had saw them, but…
MELISSA: (slipping out from a corner, grinning) Hey, that was cunning of you!
GALLEN: (pulling her back into the kitchen) Don’t spout nonsense, Mel, there is nothing between us. It was an accident, I didn’t mean…
MELISSA: (shaking her head) Aha! You still dare to say you didn’t mean it! For your information, Mr. Yip, I have perfect eyesight and no astigmatism. Ahem, what do you have to say now?
GALLEN: (confused) Erh… sorry…
MELISSA: Oh my god, wrong person! Hey, what are you waiting for, she’s just gone! Chase after her and apologize, fool!
GALLEN: (realizes) Oh… I’ll go first then! (running towards the door)
RAYMOND: (bemused) What’s wrong, Gor? (shrugs)
After Ron came in, Raymond attempted to shut the door.
RON: Hey, wait, there is someone else coming!
RAYMOND: Who?
FRANCIS: (grinning) His new girlfriend!
RAYMOND: Oh… ok.
