(10 July 2004 – Saturday – Hong Kong International Airport – 4.50 p.m.)
Gallen was about to call upon Raymond when someone suddenly went forward and gave him a teddy bear hug. He was a bit shocked by her.
MAGGIE: (smiling broadly) Gallen! How have you been doing lately? I haven’t seen you for some time!
GALLEN: Yeah! I’m fine!
MAGGIE: Are you leaving the country? I heard from Nick about you and Flora…
GALLEN: (turns around in search of Raymond) Oh, it’s not him!
MAGGIE: Gallen? Are you listening?
GALLEN: (turning back) Oh, yeah! Sorry, I was looking for Ray! By the way, where’s Nick?
MAGGIE: He’s in the washroom, we just returned from Rome!
GALLEN: Rome? What a coincidence! (recalls) That means you accepted him, congrats!
MAGGIE: (smiles) Thanks! I must congrats you too! How I envy Flora! You were never so good to me…
GALLEN: (a bit awkward) You don’t need to envy me! You have Nick!
MAGGIE: (smiles sweetly) Well, that’s true! Anyway, I’ll get going. See you! (leaving)
GALLEN: (calling after her) See you!
She turns around and smiles again. He smiled back. Then he was alerted by a familiar voice.
FLORA: (calmly) Gallen…
GALLEN: (surprised) Flora? What are you doing here?
FLORA: Why did you break your promise? You told me you won’t leave…
GALLEN: I…
FLORA: I broke up with Roger!
GALLEN: (shocked) Huh? But… but what about the baby?
FLORA: I don’t care! At most I don’t want it! (bites her lips) Now you don’t want me too… (crying)
GALLEN: (confused) No… I… I don't know what to say… but…
FLORA: How could you just leave when I needed you the most? How could you! Do you know…?
GALLEN: I’m sorry, I thought I shouldn’t be the one besides you…
FLORA: It’s ok, from the minute you hear those words from Roger, I knew you would give up on me… you would love me no more… I just… I just came to say goodbye to you, Bon voyage! (turns and leaves)
GALLEN: (pulled her hand back) Flora! You… you really left Roger?
FLORA: Of course, I’ve told him… loud and clear, that I can’t be with him…
GALLEN: But… what… what will happen to the baby…
FLORA: Don’t you care… it’s not yours anyway…
GALLEN: (feeling hurt) Why are you still throwing your temper at me?
FLORA: Let me go… and you should go too, it’s the last call minutes ago!
GALLEN: Let me… let me take care of you and the baby ok?
FLORA: No…
GALLEN: Then why are you here today? Why did you leave Roger…?
FLORA: I came here to say goodbye, and I left Roger because I know I can’t be with him…
GALLEN: (looking into her eyes) Because your heart is with me, right?
FLORA: But it’s useless… there is now a barrier between us…
GALLEN: What barrier? The baby? I won’t mind, Flora!
FLORA: You’re lying! How can you don’t mind? Impossible!
GALLEN: I… I mind, but I’ll learn to accept it, and I know I could! Just because of you!
FLORA: No, you’ll only come to regret it later!
GALLEN: I won’t! (lifting his fingers up) I swear! Since you could put down your dignity and came looking for me, why can’t I do the same and accept the baby?
FLORA: (eyes wet) Really?
GALLEN: Of course! (hugging her)
FLORA: (smiling) Gallen… I have something to show you… (releasing herself and taking out a sheet of paper)
GALLEN: Medical report? (reading it) What? Leukemia? How come, why…
FLORA: Now look at the date of the report…
Gallen shifted his glance to a few lines above. Just as he was about to raise his question, he felt a gush of wind rushing towards them, and the next second, he found a teenager knocking in Flora. The latter fell to the ground while the teenager uttered a sorry and ran off.
GALLEN: (scolding after the teenager, while helping Flora up) Are you blind or what? Look where you’re going! Do you know I can sue you…
FLORA: Forget it Gallen, he’s gone far!
GALLEN: That kind of people deserves a scolding! (helping her up) Flora, are you alright? Is the baby hurt?
FLORA: What are you so uptight about the baby? (purposely) It’s not yours anyway…
GALLEN: (a bit angry) I know! (pouts) You don’t have to remind me of that!
FLORA: Sorry, but… (pinches his cheek)
(5.10 p.m.)
At the other corner, Ada and Roger was hiding themselves to eavesdrop on the conversation.
ADA: Now you are convinced? I told you Flora would not be with you, with or without the baby!
ROGER: I concede defeat! He’s a supreme being! I could never be so generous to accept another man’s baby like that!
ADA: No! I trust you! You could! It’s just that… you want to fulfill them, don’t you? And you sacrified yourself!
ROGER: Seriously, I’m sort of moved too… (sniffing)
ADA: (laughing) When have you turned into a second Gallen?
ROGER: Since now…
*FLASHBACKS*
(2 July 2004 – Friday – HH hospital – Flora’s ward – afternoon)
ADA: I’ve settled all the discharge arrangements, pack your things and we could go now!
FLORA: (hanging up her mobile) Ada, do you know where Gallen is? How come I can’t seem to get him at all!
ADA: (sighs) How do you expect him to stay?
FLORA: But why? Just because of my… and he chose to leave me?
ADA: What else? Roger had announced your wedding date to him!
FLORA: (confused) What? What wedding date? When did I agree? I thought I told him clearly?
ADA: Can you not marry him? He said that the doctor said…
FLORA: Just because of that, he wants to marry me? But I have made it clear to him!
