(Monday – Novotel Century Hotel Function Room – 6 p.m.)
The wedding party was 2 more hours away, and around one-third of the guests have arrived, mingling around with the others. Gallen and Ada were chatting happily about his novels again, but the former’s attention was placed at the entrance. He sweeps his eyes across, and ironically found Jessica doing the same thing. Then, a tall, handsome guy dressed in white approaches her. He eyes their conversation in interest.
JOE: (looking at the entrance) Jess, what are you looking at?
JESSICA: (a bit shocked, turns around) Eh… just looking at the guests arriving.
JOE: Arghh… I thought it was something interesting.
JESSICA: Don’t mind me, just join others… like… (looking across) Ada and Gallen Yip.
JOE: (looking in her direction) Oh… that’s Gallen Yip? Ah… he looks more handsome in person, but of course, I’m… (turning around to see Jessica missing) Hey, what’s wrong with this girl? (to himself) Just wanted to find someone to chat with. (shrugs and walks towards Ada with his hands in pockets)
ADA: (eyeing him in amusement) Hey Joe, are you possessed or something?
JOE: (raises his eyebrows) What are you talking about?
ADA: (teasingly) Or are you planning to give up your ambition of being an artist and be a model instead?
JOE: (shakes his head dramatically) No wonder you still can’t find a boyfriend now! Who would want someone like you?
ADA: Hey, you better watch your words!
JOE: Nah… you’re just afraid to be embarrassed before your idol! (looking at Gallen)
ADA: Joe!
JOE: (to Gallen) Hi, Mr. Gallen Yip? (extend his hand)
GALLEN: Uh huh. (shakes his hand) You are?
JOE: Joe Chan, the only man in the world who may consider her… (looking at Ada)
ADA: Hey, I’ll tell Flora how you’re bullying me and you’re going to get it from her!
GALLEN: (confused) Flora?
JOE: Go ahead! I’m not afraid of you! (looking at the entrance) There she is! Go and complain all you want!
Gallen turned his head as swift as lightning upon hearing Joe’s words. He held his breath. There he saw Flora emerging in a light violet strapless spirally-designed gown, with Roger besides her. How he wish he was the one besides her. How he wish she was his for the moment. How he wish… But before he could finish his wish, she had already spotted him. Or them? And she was strolling towards them with Roger.
FLORA: (to Gallen) Hi, Gallen.
GALLEN: (almost whispered) Hi Flora.
ADA: (chuckles) Have you lost your voice or something?
FLORA: (grins) Yup, you don’t sound like your usual self.
GALLEN: Erm… perhaps the whiskey dried my throat…
FLORA: (suppresses a chuckle) Oh… I see…
GALLEN: (a bit awkward) Erm… excuse me… (walks away)
ROGER: What’s wrong with him?
FLORA: (shrugs) Hey, where are the stars today? Gone into hiding?
ADA: Annie’s in the side room, Julian… (looks around) Chatting with his friends there! (pointing) Awww… Nick!
NICK: (walking towards them smilingly) Hey Ada! (giving her a hug) Whoa, you look so…
ADA: (winks) Pretty?
NICK: Yeah, pretty silly!
ADA: Hey!
NICK: Kidding, Miss Choi! You’re gorgeous!
ROGER: Nick, when did you return?
NICK: Just yesterday, Dai Gor!
ROGER: Ah! What about the girl… did she return with you?
NICK: Nah… She’ll only be back a bit later. Erm… perhaps I’ll go there and fetch her back.
ADA: Awww… I envy her so much!
JOE: You don’t need to envy her, you’ve got me!
ADA: Oh my god… someone help, I am fainting!
FLORA: Hey Gor! Don’t tease Ada!
ADA: I’m going in to help Annie out! (sticks her tongue at Joe)
NICK: Hey, I’ll go with you! (the both of them leaves)
Just then, Jessica walks over.
JESSICA: Hi, Roger. I’ve got something to talk to you.
ROGER: (searching for Flora’s response) Eh…
JESSICA: (smiles) Something important, won’t take you long!
FLORA: (forces a smile) It’s ok, just go!
ROGER: Erm… ok. (they proceeds to the eastern corner of the room)
JOE: (eyeing Jessica) Flora, don’t you find this Jess a bit weird? Just now I was talking to her and she don’t really care. She just stares at the entrance like some police slethhound!
FLORA: Oh… really? (looking at Roger and Jess)
JOE: Flora, why are you staring at them? Don’t tell me what Ada’s saying is true? Jess is after Roger? (she keeps quiet) Oh my! I thought she was joking all along! Oh my god, this Jess is horrible! Let me teach her a lesson for you!
FLORA: (pulls his hand) No, Gor! Roger already said there’s nothing between them!
JOE: And you trust him? Don’t be so naïve! Men are natural born liars!
FLORA: That means you are lying too!
JOE: Hey! I’m saying this for your own good, ok? (she keeps quiet) I’ll fetch another drink! (walks away)

(Eastern corner)
ROGER: Jess, what do you want to say to me?
JESSICA: (gazing at him) Erm… Mr. Tong from GG called to cancel his appointment tomorrow.
ROGER: That’s all? Then you can tell me about it tomorrow. Excuse me.
JESSICA: (pulling him back) Do you need to avoid me like that?
ROGER: Sorry, but I don’t want Flora to misunderstand us.
JESSICA: I know I’m a bother… (lowers her head)
ROGER: Jess, I don’t mean that…
JESSICA: Roger, do I have a chance… (grabs his hand)
From the other side, Flora pouts unhappily and turned away to walk towards the stage. Just then a waitress stops her.
WAITRESS: Excuse me, are you Miss Flora Chan?
FLORA: Uh huh, what’s the matter?
WAITRESS: (smiles) A mister had asked me to pass this to you. (passes her an envelope) (walks away)
Flora opens the envelope to find a teddy bear card with a huge red heart at the cover. She flips open the card, which reads:
“Silly Piglet,
If you’re alone, I’ll be your shadow.
If you want to cry, I’ll be your shoulder.
If you want a hug, I’ll be your pillow.
If you need to be happy, I’ll be your smile.
But anytime you need a friend, I’ll just be me.
Happy Teddy.”
She closes the card and a grin appears across her cheek. She lifts up her head and cast a cursory glance across the room. Out of a sudden, she feels a warm hand on her shoulder.

PS: Hehehe... both Jess and Gallen are taking action! Btw, the party had not ended yet. In fact, it haven't even started! ;p
