The second and last time I talked to Aaron Yan as “Abby” was 2 days before their graduation. I know I promised to hate him but I just can't stop myself. Texting him doesn't mean I don't hate him anymore, right? Plus, texting him doesn't mean anything. I’m his junior and we don't have a chance. So maybe, it wouldn’t matter anymore.

I typed “Hi,” and sent it to his number. I never saved his number. My friend, Ya Tou, gave it to me and just one look, I memorized it already.

“What’s your name?”

“I’m Abby,” I replied.

“Why don’t I know you?” He immediately answered. I wanted to say “Of course, you wouldn’t ‘cause Abby doesn’t even exist!” but then I knew if I said that, I would be screwed.

When I said I was Abby, he didn’t ask other things about my identity. We talked for quite a while and I was so happy. But suddenly, he just said he can’t talk to me anymore and said that it would be his last text.

“Why?” I asked, hoping he would still answer.

“Because my girlfriend saw your text. She wanted to get your number but I didn’t give it to her ‘cause she might say or do bad things to you like what she did to my other friend. Goodbye. Thank you (: and take care,” He replied. I was surprised that he still did, but I was more surprised that he wanted to protect me from his girlfriend.

“OMG. I’m so sorry! Tell her I’m sorry! Really. I won’t text you forever. Tell her that! I’m sorry. Good luck with both of you,” I said. When I sent the SMS, I wanted to get it back and delete the forever part. I felt bad, realizing it would mean that I can never text him anymore.

“Don’t be scared, we’re just texting. Take care,” He said. Take care again? That’s so sweet! Doesn’t that mean anything?

I know I was thinking too much but I couldn’t help it. I like him, yes. But, I have to forget him because he’ll be in college, and I won’t see him anymore. Plus, he has a girlfriend.

Two days passed, it was their graduation already. I wanted to congratulate him but I didn’t want to break my promise. He clearly broke what he said too by replying twice that night but I can’t, really. I didn’t want to ruin his relationship with Hebe, his girlfriend.

The summer passed slowly, it was like a whole year passed when it ended. I was so happy. I wanted to meet a lot of new guys so I could, hopefully, forget Aaron.

But I didn’t. I did meet a lot of guys during senior year. Some of them I dated, some of them, I rejected. I tried very hard to erase him from my mind, and my heart. But I just can’t. He left a mark there, and I know it won’t be gone for a long time.

It was the day before the spring break and I went to school early. Okay, my coming to school early wasn’t voluntary. My dad said that I had to go to school early every now and then. Ha. Why choose now to be the every now and then? My dad has a pretty bad timing. I went to the gazebo as soon as he dropped me in front gate 6. My friends were there already.

“Hey,” Ya tou hit my head.

“What?”

“Nothing,” She smiled like what she did was nothing.

I hit her back and laughed, “Hey too.”

“Well, err, we were thinking, why don’t you come with us to the beach this spring break? There are a lot of hot guys there. You have to go with us!” Ya tou said.

“Why are hot guys always involved?” I asked, showing my you-are-annoying-me look.

“Because you need one, if that isn’t obvious yet,” Xiao Man said, joining our conversation.

I shook my head, “I don’t”

“Since Aaron left, you’ve been avoiding a lot of guys,” Ya Tou reacted.

“I’ve dated a lot of guys already! It’s just that most of them aren’t my type,”

The 2 girls eyed me. I knew the conversation was going to the very famous, Aaron topic, so I said, “Okay, okay. I will go with you guys!”

The girls squealed and walked away. “See you later!” If I only knew that they’d leave me, I would have said no to their offer. But I know I can’t take it back. I just have to go and stay with them for a few days. It wouldn’t hurt that much.
--

It was 5 am when someone knocked our door like crazy. It was so early and I didn’t want to get up. My parents left the night before and said that they had to go overseas to visit my sick aunt. The maid was still asleep so I had no choice but to open the door myself.

“What’s the matter?” I protested.

“What the hell? You’re still asleep? Where are your things?” Ya tou asked, clearly panicked.

“Well, it’s 5 am and it’s so early! Why are you here? I thought we’re gonna leave at 8 am? You’re 3 hours early for your information,” I said, bitterly.

Ya Tou smiled. “Change of plans,” She said and practically ransacked my room to get my stuff.

15 minutes later, the maid woke up and my things were ready. I told the maid I’m going and went inside Xiao Man’s car and left.

We arrived there at 10 am. And Ya Tou said proudly, “See? It’s better to leave early. Now, we have a lot more time to have fun!”

I snickered when she said that. I wasn’t in the mood to have fun. I was in the mood to sleep. I could’ve slept in the car but my so-called friends played the loudest songs and they never gave me a chance to even have a nap.

“Where’s our hotel? Let’s go there now, please. I wanna sleep.” I requested.

“Err, wait. Let me call Ah Wei.” Ya Tou fished for her phone in her bag and dialed.

I was shocked. “Ah Wei who? Ah Wei? Ah Wei? Aaron’s step brother?” Tell me Aaron’s not here!

“Aaron’s not here,” Xiao Man said, then laughed.

“Thank God.” I said, completely relieved.

“He’s not here but he’s at the hotel.” Xiao Man laughed more, like it was hilarious. Maybe it was but it wasn’t, at least for me.

“What the hell? Let’s leave!”

“No, we can’t,” Xiao Man replied.

“This trip is for you! You can’t leave,” Ya Tou exclaimed.

“How can this be for me? You guys are blackmailing me!”

“No! We did this so you would realize that he’s not for you.” Xiao Man said.

“I know! You don’t have to do this to make me realize that, I know that already!” I cried.

I didn’t talk to them during the whole trip to the hotel. I was crying like crazy. But Xiao Man and Ya Tou weren’t guilty, at all. They ignored me, even if I was weeping like a baby.

A few minutes later, we arrived. Ah Wei, Aaron and someone I don’t know were standing there, waiting for us. I wiped my tears and said, “I won’t cry anymore. I can ignore him until we leave. But that doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you already.” My friends laughed, looked at each other, and ignored me again. We went out of the car and I greeted Ah Wei and the other guy, his name was Ah Ben. He’s good looking but not my type. I ignored Aaron and I saw his expression when I just walked past him and went inside the hotel. He was shocked and disappointed, but I know it doesn’t mean anything, at all.

I was enlightened when I saw the suite. The wallpaper and the bed sheets were purple, my favorite color. The bathroom has a big tub inside. The room has a terrace, giving a view of the sea. It was beautiful, perfect. I had to share the room with one of them, but it was okay. Having a roommate won’t make the room ugly. I was taking a shower when someone knocked, probably my roommate. I wore one of the purple bathrobes hanging there; I chose the smaller one because the other one was too big, like a guy’s bathrobe, and went out of the bathroom. I opened the door and saw my worst nightmare.

“Why are you here?” I asked, firmly.
