Chapter 16

Phone Conversation

Hi guys. I'm sorry for not updating yesterday! I was busy ._. Ermm, thanks a lot for the comments! I love you guys <3

-----

Wang Zi and I met after school and he said he’d buy me ice cream so we went to the nearest ice cream parlor.

“What do you want?” Wang Zi asked.

“Ice cream. DUH!” I answered, sarcastically.

“I know! I mean, what flavor?” Wang Zi revised his question.

“Cookies n cream!” I exclaimed excitedly. “My favorite!” Uh-oh. Cookies n cream wasn’t really my favorite, it was Aaron’s. But it became mine too when I knew it was his. Err, it’s still my favorite! So whatever.

“Okay,” Wang Zi said.

We were eating ice cream happily when he broke the silence, “About what you said last Saturday, I knew it already. I think we should have more double dates with Aaron. That way, it would be easier for you to know who you love more.”

I was caught off guard. I’ve been trying to avoid that topic since Monday. But now, I can’t do anything about it anymore.

Wait, more dates with Aaron? Oh my gosh, I don’t think it’s a good idea. “What? More dates with Aaron?”

Wang Zi gave a small nod and ate a spoonful of his chocolate ice cream.

“But,” I objected. “I want more time with you.”

He chuckled slightly and said, “I know, but that won’t work.” He winked.

I eyed his confident face, “Are you really decided?”

He, once again, gave a small nod. I, on the other hand, let out a resigned sigh. “Okay, whatever you say, Prince.”

He looked at me and laughed. “Wow, you called me Prince.” He looked at my ice cream bowl and said, “Are you done? I’ll bring you back home now.”

“Yes, I called you Prince because that’s your name.” I chuckled. “But I don’t want to go home yet.”

“So do you want me to bring you to Xiao Man and Ya Tou?” He asked.

“No, I want to be with you.” I answered. “But if you’re busy, it’s okay.”

“Well yes, I am busy today. I have to meet someone today.” He admitted. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.” I lied. “Let’s go.” I stood up and went out of the ice cream parlor. He normally opens the door for me but this time, I opened the door myself and waited for him to get in.

“Are you mad?” He looked at me.

Am I? “No.” I decided to say.

He looked at me for a few seconds and started driving. We were quiet the whole time and Wang Zi looked uneasy, disappointed, and frustrated. I felt guilt rush through my body.

“Wang Zi,” I said. “I’m not mad. Stop having that expression! I feel guilty.”

Wang Zi smiled wistfully and I giggled. Now, the guilt disappeared.

We’ve been on the road for 15 minutes yet I still don’t know where we’re going. I looked outside and started to get confused. Didn’t we just go past that a few minutes ago?

“Hey, where are you going?” I asked.

Wang Zi smiled, “I don’t know.”

“What?”

“You didn’t tell me where to go!” Wang Zi responded.

“To my house! I asked them to go to my house already.” I said. “I can’t believe you’re doing this! You’re such a silly boyfriend.”

“And you’re such a short-tempered girlfriend!” Wang Zi shot back, grinning. “I can’t believe you’d get mad just because I can’t spend time with you today!”

“Who said I was mad?” I raised my eyebrow as I questioned him.

“No one,” Wang Zi answered.

I giggled; he’s so cute and funny. “Well, okay. I was a bit mad!” I admitted.

Wang Zi looked like he’s about to burst out laughing.

“Only because I miss you too much!”

“How could you even miss me?” He asked. “We see each other everyday!”

“Why?” I looked at him, pretending to be sad. “Can’t a girl miss her boyfriend?”

-----

We arrived at my house a few minutes later—I saw Xiao Man’s car as I went out the car, the three girls must be there. I went to the driver’s window and kissed Wang Zi, he drove off after that.

I went upstairs as fast as I could and was surprised to see only two girls. “Where’s Xiao Xun? I thought you three were going together.”

Ya Tou looked up and said. “She said she couldn’t come, seems like she had something planned.”

“Oh, okay.” I replied. “What are you guys doing?”

“Xiao Xun looked like she’s going on a date.” Xiao Man muttered, instead of answering my question. “She was dressed beautifully, she even had make-up on.”

I chuckled. “She’s probably going on a date with her almost-boyfriend.”

“Yeah.” Ya Tou and Xiao Man agreed.

I was about to say something when my phone rang.

*Phone conversation*

“Hello?”

“Gui Gui, are you with Ya Tou now?”

“Uhm, yes. Why?” I asked.

“Do you remember the night you called me to say that you haven’t chosen anyone yet?”

Why do you have to bring it back? Psh. “Yes, why?”

“Well, Ya Tou called me too and said ‘I love you.’ It didn’t sound like Ya Tou though. Can you ask her who called me that night? I might actually know the girl because her voice was familiar, but I couldn’t bring myself to completely remember.”

What? You’re the guy Xiao Xun called that night? You are Xiao Xun’s almost-boyfriend? Oh god, are you kidding me? My relationship was going okay and now, you’re trying to ruin it again?

Jealousy ran through my veins. “Okay, I’ll ask her. Bye.”

“Wait, hello? Hello?” I heard him say, but I didn’t bother asking him what else he had to say.

*End of phone conversation*
