Chapter 19

I Pick You

Hi~ I'm here to update again! HAHAHAS.

---------

I called Ya Tou and asked her to call Xiao Man and Xiao Xun because I wanted to talk to them. When I arrived, I stated every single thing that happened and ya Tou went hysterical.

“WHAAAAAAAT?” Ya Tou scolded me with her high-pitched voice. “Why did you do that? You’re so stupid Gui Gui!” She stomped her left foot loudly.

I was speechless. I knew Ya Tou would react that way for she likes Aaron far more than Wang Zi. She may like Wang Zi as a friend but not for me because she thinks it would be great to have triple dates every time we’re free. Of course, in her mind, she imagines us—Ah Wei and herself, Ah Ben and Xiao Man, and Aaron and me to be together when we go to dates. But now, it’s more likely to happen only in her dreams because the stupid ghost, Gui Gui which is me, abandoned the deal without thinking through things properly.

I sighed and replied, “I know Ya Tou! But I was mad! I really didn’t mean to call it off. He was so arrogant and haughty! I was furious, enraged, mad and upset!” I stopped myself from saying every adjective that has the same meaning with angry.

“But still! That doesn’t excuse you from what you did! You are just brainless!” She said.

And that’s when I lost control. “Brainless? Ha. I’m here to fuckin’ ask for advice not be called stupid and brainless and stupid! I need support Ya Tou! Please Ya Tou, that’s all I’m asking for!” I shouted with tears falling from my eyes.

Suddenly, Xiao Man who seemed like invisible a few minutes ago stood up and hugged me. “I know how you feel Gui Gui. Don’t mind Ya Tou, you know she’s always like that. I feel sorry for you, we feel sorry for what happened between you and Aaron.” She said. “And Ya Tou, I know you’ve always dreamt of having a triple date but our best friend needs us right now. Don’t be so hard on her. She’s sad and heartbroken!”

Heartbroken? Am I? “Thank you Xiao Man.” I hugged her really tight.

Ya Tou hugged both of us too and said, “I’m sorry Gui, I’m sorry.”

“No, it’s okay.” I smiled at my best friends. I’m so lucky to have Xiao Man, Ya tou, and… “Hey, where’s Xiao Xun?”

“I don’t know, maybe she didn’t come because she thinks you’re mad at her.” Ya Tou explained.

“But I’m not mad at her! I’m angry, furious, irritated, and infuriated with that Aaron! Ugh, wait. I didn’t even tell her about what happened between us yet!”

“Maybe Aaron called her already.” Ya Tou said. “Because when I called her, she said she couldn’t come but when I asked her why, she couldn’t give me a decent answer.”

“Maybe,” Xiao Man said. “But don’t you think it’s unfair that you’re not mad at Xiao Xun but you’re mad at Aaron? I mean, you hate him so much because of his and Xiao Xun’s secret, both of them kept it not just him. And do you know what’s more unfair? You said bad things to him without even listening to his explanation.” Xiao Man lectured.

“But he was so arrogant!” I retorted. “He irritated me too much!”

“I know.” Xiao Man replied. “But, that doesn’t excuse you from not hating Xiao Xun. It’s not that I want you to hate her, I just want you to be fair.”

I sighed loudly. Xiao Man is very silly most of the time but when she gets serious, she always says the right thing.

“Wait a sec Gui.” Ya Tou disrupted me from my thoughts. “How do you feel about all of this?”

How do I feel, really? Even I don’t know. “Errr, I try to laugh and smile about what happened. I force myself to be happy because I won’t have to worry about who to pick in the end but I can’t bring myself to do what my brain commands me to do. I love Wang Zi but just thinking about not seeing Aaron anymore kills me. I don’t know, really. All I know is that I love them both so much but I love Aaron more. Maybe. I don’t know. I don’t know! I DON’T KNOW!” My eyes started producing tears for the nth time. “Help me, please!”

The girls sighed and hugged me.

“Do you still want to carry on with the deal? Or have you really decided to end it?” Ya Tou asked.

“Of course I want to carry on with the deal!” I answered loudly. “It’s just that I don’t know how to tell Aaron.”

“We’ll think of something, Gui.” Both of them said.

-------------

I came to school afraid to see Xiao Xun. I wasn’t mad; it’s just that I didn’t know how I would react. She’s my best friend but I didn’t know how I could talk to her properly, now that I know Aaron was her almost-boyfriend.

I walked inside the room, searching for Xiao Xun. I looked at her seat but it was empty. I sighed in relief. I walked towards my table and saw a note on top of it. ‘Gui Gui, I have to talk to you. You have to come. Meet Wang Zi and me—we’re in the canteen. –Xiao Xun’ The letter said.

Should I come? What are they going to tell me? Psh. Maybe I should go. I’m not mad at them anyways. And besides, it would be a great opportunity to clear things…maybe.

I walked in the canteen and saw Wang Zi and Xiao Xun sitting together at the middle of the room. They looked serious. No, they were serious. They didn’t look like they were talking. I felt chills run down my spine. Should I go back?

I walked backwards but, it was too late. Wang Zi saw me already and he stood up and started walking towards me.

Wang Zi held my hand. “Let’s go.”

We walked to the table where Xiao Xun was sitting and after what seemed like the longest walk ever, we finally made it.

I sat and greeted oddly, “Hi!”

She didn’t return my smile, at all. Instead she held my hand and said, “I’m sorry Gui. I didn’t mean to keep it from you!”

I laughed awkwardly. “No, it’s okay. You don’t have to say sorry. It’s Aaron’s fault.”

“No. It’s OUR fault! You have to be mad at me, Gui Gui!” She exclaimed. “It’s unfair to be only mad at Aaron and not me!”

Ha. I’ve heard that unfair issue before. “No! I’m angry with Aaron and not you. Aren’t you glad I’m still talking to you?” I stood up and walked away.

“Gui!” Wang Zi called. “Just listen to what she’s going to say, please.”

I walked back, unable to abandon my prince. “Aren’t you happy that you don’t have to worry anymore?”

“I’d be damned if I was, Gui.” He said, sternly. “I know you love us both but I don’t want an easy exit from this mess. If you love one of us more, then you should pick him.”

“Then I pick you.” I replied.

“No.” Wang Zi looked up. “Don’t say that.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because we both know you’re lying.”
