----
It had been a month since the incident happened. I followed Xiao Man’s advice and tried to forget what I did to Aaron. I talked to Wang Zi like nothing ever happened and ignored Aaron like, what I’ve decided to do didn’t hurt me at all.
As for Wang Zi, he kept on bailing out on us and he was almost always absent too. I wanted to know why he always left but I didn’t have the guts. To be honest, it was very easy to ask but I just could not bring myself to do it. I was afraid that he wouldn’t want me to know so I just waited for him to tell me himself.
Soon enough, that day came.
It was after class when he asked me if I could come and talk to him. He said that he needed to tell me something and I knew that it would be about it so I agreed without difficulty.
“Gui,” He called my name with a hint of sadness.
What could it be? I was curious. “Why Wang Zi?”
He held my hand tightly and closed his eyes. “I love you, Gui.”
“I know and I love you too.” I guaranteed.
We walked to the nearest bench and settled there.
“I need to tell you something. I have a decision to make and it would depend on your answer to my question.” Wang Zi responded with his eyes still closed.
I squeezed his hand lightly and asked, “What is it?”
“Who do you love more, Aaron or me?”
“W-w-w-what?” I stammered.
He opened his eyes and looked at me deeply. “Do you love me more than Aaron?”
Do I love him more than Aaron? Do I love Aaron more than him? Who do I love more?
“I...” I started. “I actually don’t know.”
“No Gui Gui. You know who you love more and you are going to tell me.” He demanded. “I have to decide now and your decision is the only thing I’m waiting for.”
“Well, errrrr.” I stuttered. “You know I’m confused, Wang Zi. I thought you understand?”
“Yes, I do.” He said bleakly. “But I have to know now. YOU have to know now.”
“I’m sorry.” I said, not knowing what to answer.
“Do you love Aaron more than me?” He asked again.
Yes, I do Wang Zi. I want to tell you but I don’t want to hurt you. “I’m sorry.”
Wang Zi stood up and said that I should call him later that night. He said he really needed to know for his family had been waiting for his decision for weeks.
I felt guilty. He couldn’t make a decision because of me. I can’t keep this from him forever. I had to tell him sooner or later and I’ve been trying to avoid his questions. And now, now is the time to tell him the truth, the time to admit to myself that I love Aaron more than him.
I held his hand and stopped him from walking. He looked back and waited for me to speak. “I love you, Wang Zi.” I said. “But Aaron... I love him more. I love him more even if he’s arrogant and even if he makes me mad. I’m so, so sorry.”
Wang Zi nodded and sat back again. “Thank you for telling the truth.” He said. “Now, I’ve decided.”
“Decided about what?” I asked curiously.
He held my hand once again and said, “I’m leaving for England tomorrow.”
What, why? “No, Wang Zi. You just came back! You can’t leave again.” I pleaded.
“My family is leaving. I could have stayed here if you loved me more but you don’t so I can’t stay.” He explained.
“What? You’re my best friend and I love you so much! That’s so immature Wang Zi! You’re leaving just because I don’t love you more than him! Please Wang Zi! Why are you being like this?”
He cupped my face and looked at me. “I’m not leaving just because of that. I have already expected you to choose Aaron in the end. I wanted to leave because I want you to be happy. And as long as I’m here, I know you won’t be for you will only be worrying about my feelings!”
“But…” I tried to think of something to say. He was right; I’d probably just worry about his feelings every time. “But Aaron and I have decided to call the deal off!”
“No, that’s just you.” He said. “Did he say that he’s willing to call it off? It’s not yet over. You two still have a chance and don’t waste it just because of a stupid misunderstanding!”
I sighed in defeat. “But you’re leaving in like, less than 24 hours, Wang Zi. And why are you leaving?”
“I know and I’m going to miss you.” He smiled faintly. “I’m leaving because my dad decided to work in England and he wants us to be there with him. But since I’m old enough, he said that I could stay if I want to.”
I hugged him as tight as I could. “I’m going to miss you too. If you don’t want it there, come back here okay?”
“Of course I’d want it there!” He exclaimed. “Why wouldn’t I? A lot of English girls are pretty, you know?”
I giggled and hit him slightly. “We just broke up and you’re looking for girls already!”
“Why, is that bad?” He asked. “Are you jealous?” He grinned evilly.
“Of course I am, you Prince!” I shouted. “You’re my best friend and still my ex-boyfriend! How could I not be jealous?”
He laughed happily. “I was just joking, Gui. But if I did find someone there, I’ll bring her here so you could meet her!”
“Good!” I nodded in agreement.
“Hey. I have to go now, Gui. I haven’t packed yet!” He grimaced.
“Okay.” I smiled. “But will I still see you?” I asked, hoping he would say yes.
“Well…” He hesitated. “Honestly, no.”
“What?” I questioned him.
“We’re leaving later tonight because the flight is 3 am.” He said.
“But!” I protested. “You haven’t told the others yet!”
“I have.” Wang Zi muttered. “This morning.”
“Why did you just tell me now? And I thought you haven’t decided yet?” I hit him really hard.
“Well, I knew you would say you love Aaron more. I just didn’t pack my things yet because a part of me was still hoping.” He hugged me again.
“I’m going to miss you, Wang Zi!” I cried.
“I will to, Gui Gui.” Wang Zi declared.
We both stood up and hugged each other and said our goodbyes for the nth time. He let me go and held tightly on my arms.
“I love you.” He said and kissed my forehead for the last time.
