Rose (Kenix Kwok) checks her watch for the time. It was nearly 5:00 AM. She smiles. A plan came into her head that would prevent the Kams from having any suspicion on her disappearance. "Michael, I need some workout clothes."
"Rose, all the stores aren't opened yet!" Michael (Kevin Cheng) answers.
"Crap! You're right."
"What's wrong?"
"I need an excuse as to where I was."
"Didn't you say those Kams are lazy and love to sleep? I bet they won't even notice you were gone!"
"I can't take the risk."
"What's wrong with what you're wearing now?"
Rose laughs, "What's wrong? Oh, Michael! I'm wearing a skirt, blouse, and stilettos. Who works out in these clothes?"
"A smart, professional businesswoman."
Rose chuckles, "Well, I guess I can come up with another plot. Those Kams are quite stupid anyways." She bids Michael farewell.
[Apartment Building]
A sigh of relief escapes Rose's mouth when she sees that the security receptionist fell asleep at his desk. A puddle of drool drips onto the floor. She ambles to the elevator and notices that someone is coming down. "Damn, who could it be so early in the morning?" she thinks to herself.
The elevator doors open to reveal that the person inside was Nim Chi (Nancy Sit)!
Rose gasps.
Nim Chi's eyes widen, "Rose! Where did you go? We were so worried about you!"
Rose saw that Nim Chi was in her workout clothes and assumed that she was going out for her morning exercises. "I wanted to join you in your morning exercises!"
"So early? I don't leave until at least 5!"
"Don't you know that taking in the early morning air is healthy?"
"Really?"
Rose nods, "Yes, I do it every," she glances at her watch for the date, "thirteenth day of the month!"
"Oh? Interesting! You should take me out so I can try it sometimes."
"Auntie Chi, you need your sleep!"
"I'm old already, why would I want to waste my life away sleeping?" She shakes her head and points up, "They're still sleeping!"
"Old? I don't think so! You're still very young and attractive."
Nim Chi chuckles, "Let's go out for the morning exercises."
"Great!" Rose rolls her eyes.
"Wait," Nim Chi stops.
"What is it now?" Rose blinks nervously.
"Look at what you have on!"
"Oh? This?" she laughs.
"Don't you need to change into something more appropriate for exercising?"
"Oh, no! This is the outfit I need to keep me fit."
"Is it?"
"Of course! These high-heels make it harder to keep balance. By doing so, I exercise my feet muscles and balance! This builds strength."
"Wow, you're so smart, Rose!"
Rose smiles forcefully.
[Kam Family Apartment]
Nim Chi and Rose returned from their morning exercises an hour later. Nim Chi says to Rose, "Really, next time when you go out, you must tell us! You shouldn't sneak out and make us all worry. Ah Nin panicked when he realized you weren't in bed with him!"
"I know, I'm sorry. It's just that I realized it was the thirteenth just a few hours ago. I didn't have time to tell anyone and Chris was still sleeping. I didn't want to wake him up, so I just left and thought it would be okay."
"You're so thoughtful!"
[Ah Nin & Rose's Bedroom]
Rose enters her bedroom and sees Ah Nin (Frankie Lam) still asleep. She smiles and kisses him on the forehead. "Before anyone else wakes up," Rose concludes, "I better take a long, hot bath. It's been a long night."
"Rose?"
She looks behind. Ah Nin had awaken, "Chris!"
"Where did you go?"
"To soak up the early morning air."
"What are you talking about? The thirteenth is the day that we... you know."
Rose laughs, "You can't be serious! I'm so sweaty and sticky already! I can't do that now."
Ah Nin blinks, "What are you talking about?"
Rose thinks for a second, "The thirteenth..." After awhile, she remembers, "Oh! It's the date that you woke up from your coma."
Ah Nin nods, "We made it a tradition to give each other presents at 3:00 AM on the thirteenth of each month. Did you forget?"
"How could I forget?" Rose sits down on the bed, "It was the day that my wish came true. After months of waiting, you finally awoke. From that day on, we promised to give each other presents because the thirteenth of each month represents a day when we each got something."
Ah Nin smiles, "Close your eyes."
As Rose had her eyes closed, she felt guilty because she had forgotten all about their tradition.
Ah Nin hands her a small box. "Open your eyes."
"I wonder what it could be," Rose says as she opens the present. Inside the small box was a pair of diamond earrings. They were in a shape of roses. The roses were carved from diamonds and the leaves were formed by gold. "It's lovely."
"I thought of you when I saw them, so I just had to get them."
Rose kisses him, "Thank you."
Ah Nin closes his eyes, "Now, where's my gift?"
"You know what? I won't give my gift for you until 3:00 PM."
"Why?"
"A little change in tradition will give you a nice surprise."
"But then it's not meaningful anymore!" Ah Nin protests.
Rose closes the blinds and locks the door, "All right, then I'll give you my flower."
[Nim Chi's Bedroom]
Foon Foon and Hei Hei were still sleeping in their bed. Nim Chi grins looking at the two of them. Although they could be troublesome at times, the house hadn't had a dull moment since they arrived. Nim Chi wonders when they will have cousins to play with them. She checks the calendar and smiles, "Ah Lo is due sometime this month!" She admires Foon Foon and Hei Hei again; "You two will have more playmates soon."
