Wong Sheung (Lau Dan) enters "Ka Yan" company seeing his employees bunched up in a circle.
"What are you guys doing?" he demands. He is shocked to see Ah Nin (Frankie Lam), Ah Lam (Linda Chung), and Man Gwai Fei (Stephanie Che) with the crowd. "Chris, Athena, Michelle! You guys are their managers and you condone and take part in this?"
"Mr. Wong! It's not what you think. I would never team up to cause trouble!" Gwai Fei blurts out.
Ah Nin interrupts, "Christmas is coming up in a few days. We decided that we should celebrate... as a company."
"Oh?"
Lily (Rain Lau) nods her head, "This is the first year that everyone in our company is together. It's special and we should do something."
"What were you guys discussing?" Wong Sheung questions.
"Daddy," Joey (Bernice Liu) answers, "We were thinking about giving everyone presents."
"However, that would be too expensive because there are so many people at 'Ka Yan.' If everyone were to give everyone a present, the cost would be deadly! Then Christmas would lose its spirit and no one would be blissful because we would all cry thinking how broke we would be!" Rose (Kenix Kwok) adds.
Ah Lo (Bondy Chiu) rolls her eyes and says in a low voice, "Broke? Ha! Your fortune in Shanghai could drown everyone here."
Ah Nin places his arms around Love Sister (Yu Mo Lin), "Love Sister wants to take part too, so the budget has to be low."
"How about we all pitch in for one big dinner? Nothing better than good food and a full stomach, isn't that right?" Gam (Louis Yuen) suggests.
"We eat every day, it's not special!" Ying Gei (Yvonne Lam) objects.
Abruptly, Sugar (Yau Ching) exclaims, "I can't believe it! How could the lead actor mistake the supporting actress as the one who gave him the Christmas present? It's not fair! The lead actress thought so hard to buy him the gift!"
"Huh?"
Sugar shows everyone the entertainment magazine she was reading and clarifies, "In this series, the lead actress has a crush on the lead actor, but hasn't the guts the tell him. Luckily, their class held a 'Secret Santa' thing for Christmas. The lead actress fatefully drew the name of her crush, but it's too bad he misunderstood and thought that someone else had given him the gift!"
"Stupid series."
"It may be stupid, but I've got an idea," Joey grins.
Rose snaps her fingers, "Joey, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"'Secret Santa!'" Joey and Rose shout in unison.
"I've never heard of it, what is it?" Love Sister asks.
Ah Lam explains, "Everyone who wants to take part writes their name on a piece of paper. Then everyone puts their name in a bag and takes turn to draw up a paper. Whatever name is on the paper that you pick, you have to buy the present for that person. The catch is that this person isn't supposed to know who the giver is."
"That sounds good. Everyone would just have to buy one present," Ah Nin comments.
"Then it's decided," Wong Sheung declares.
Everyone in "Ka Yan" writes their name on a small piece of paper and then places the paper into a pouch. The papers are then shuffled in the pouch and handed to each person to pick. To make the game fair and to keep it exciting, they decided that the folded paper wouldn't be opened until everyone had a piece of paper. Gwai Yan (Celine Ma) is the last person to draw and she prays that she would get Ah Nin's name.
"On the count of three, everyone can open up the paper and see who they have to buy a gift for! One... two... three!"
Gwai Yan stands by a corner and scrunches her eyes. She unfolds the paper slowly. She is both excited and afraid at the same time. "Please let me get Ah Nin..." she mumbles under her breath. Gwai Yan can't take the suspense anymore, so she quickly unwraps the paper with her eyes shut. She holds her breath and counts to three. She squeals when she sees the word "Kam" on her paper. Gwai Yan jumps up and down and shoves the paper into her blouse's pocket. She was too excited that she didn't bother to read the second word written on the paper.
Joey glances at Rose. Her paper read "Suen Seung Sam."
Ah Nin opens his paper and sees "Wong Yee." "Joey..." he thinks to himself and refolds the paper and places it in his pocket.
Ah Sing (Hawick Lau) and Ah Lam look at each other from across the room almost at the same time after they saw the other's name on their paper.
Gwai Fei clears her throat and announces, "Whoever has me better get me a good present otherwise I'll give you a warning letter!"
"Athena," Wong Sheung says, "It's only a fun game! Plus, you might never find out who bought you the present." Wong Sheung checks his paper again for verification. Yet, it still read "Man Gwai Fei." He sighs and crumbles up the paper.
Gwai Fei nods, "True. Whoever has Mr. Wong better not be cheap!" Gwai Fei had prayed that she wouldn't get Wong Sheung, but somehow the paper was instantly attached to her hand when she reached into the pouch. She sighs thinking about the cost of Wong Sheung's present.
"Well, now that everyone has someone to buy a present for, we'll set the day after tomorrow as being the time where we get gifts!"
"Wait," Ah Yuet (Michael Tse) says, "If we all give the presents in at the same time, wouldn't it be easy to find out who everyone's 'Secret Santa' is?"
GiGi (Josephine Shum) agrees, "We have to do it in such a way that we'll never find out who gave us the present."
To everyone's surprise, Gwai Fei follows and says, "Yes! We must never let the secret be revealed."
"I know," Rose exclaims, "We can have a big bag beside the Christmas tree and place the gifts in the bag. When the time comes, we'll take out the presents and give it to whoever they belong to."
"Okay, we'll do that."
[Wong Family House]
Joey sat alone on the couch. 7th sister (Teresa Ha) had gone food shopping and Wong Sheung was out. "Again, I have something to do with Rose," Joey says quietly.
Since the time when the stranger named "Ah Hoi" had come to see Rose, Joey hadn't seen anything else peculiar about Rose. "Somehow, I get a bad feeling. What money were they talking about? What was it that involved Chris? Why was Rose so afraid? Why had she gone to meet him in a disguise? Is it something she can't let others know? But, what, oh what could it be?"
Joey had a headache. She tried desperately to shed light on the mysterious aura that surrounded Rose, but all she saw were smiles. Whenever Joey talked to Rose, Rose was polite and friendly. There wasn't a second where she had seen or heard the Rose of the night that she had met with Ah Hoi at "La-Go-Go."
"Is it all an act? But why would Rose act... and all the time?"
Joey hits her head trying to clear her mind. "Enough. I need to get a present for her."
[Sze Family Mansion]
Ah Lam stares at the paper in her hand in disbelief. "Lau Ka Sing... again," she repeats. She glances up at the ceiling and wonders, "Is this some cruel trick by fate? Why did Ah Sing come back? Why is he in my life again?" Ah Lam remembers how hard she had tried to push him away in the past and how hurt she was. "Haven't I suffered enough? Why do I keep getting connected with him?"
The phone rings. It's Ah San (Steven Ma).
"Honey, I have a dinner appointment with a client tonight. Don't wait up for me," Ah San says.
Disappointed, Ah Lam answers, "All right. Good luck." She blows a kiss into the phone and hangs up. She tells the maid to take the rest of the night off. Ah Lam decided to go buy Ah Sing's present and get it over with.
[Gwai Fei's Apartment]
"I'm so happy!" Gwai Yan gushes.
Gwai Fei is bitter, "Why?"
"Fei Fei, it's fate! I'm so glad we did this 'Secret Santa!'"
"Who did you get that makes you so happy?"
"Ah Nin!"
Gwai Fei scoffs, "Chris? Weren't your silly dreams shattered long ago?"
Gwai Yan nods, "They were... but my attraction to him has not died out. Fei Fei, this is another chance for me to reel him in!"
"Right," Gwai Fei rolls her eyes.
"Who did you get that makes you so bitter? Then again, you're always bitter."
Gwai Fei is irritated, but manages to say, "Mr. Wong."
"Aiya! The big boss."
"Yes, and I'm going to have to buy him something expensive."
"You're so stupid, Fei Fei!"
"Stupid? You're the one who's stupid for holding on to hopelessness!"
"It's highly doubtful that Mr. Wong will find out that you were his 'Secret Santa,' so don't worry about it!"
"That's true."
"Of course!" Gwai Yan grabs Gwai Fei by her shirt, "Let's go shopping! I have to win Ah Nin's heart!"
"Get your hands off! This is a name-brand shirt! You're stretching it."
"Don't lie to me, Fei Fei. This shirt is clearly a fake! If there is anything that I know well, it is name-brand clothing. This piece of crap is obviously cheap and a fraud!"
[Shopping Centre]
"Ah Sing, look at this!" Fiona (Sherming Yiu) points to a crystal swing. It sparkled under the light.
Ah Sing pretended not to pay attention and nonchalantly says, "It's nothing special."
Fiona frowns and decides to continue looking at the other figurines in the displays.
"Fiona."
She looks up, "Yeah?"
"Ma Chi has been complaining about her back. Why don't you go look for something that will help her with that?"
"Okay." Fiona was about to walk away until she stops and turns around, "Aren't you coming?"
Ah Sing holds up a slip of paper, "I have to do some shopping."
Fiona winks, "I get it."
Ah Sing smiles and waves. He waits until she's out of sight and says to the salesclerk, "Miss, I would like to buy this crystal swing. Please wrap it up nicely for me as well!" Ah Sing was sure that Fiona would like it. "But what would Ah Lam like?" He searches his vast memories with Ah Lam for the answer.
[Car]
"I'll be there in a few minutes to pick you up," Ah Nin said in his cell phone to Rose. The two had decided that it would spoil the fun if they went shopping together. They had split up a few hours ago and went to different malls.
He gives a quick perusal at his back seat and wonders if Joey would like the present that he had picked for her.
["Ka Yan" Company]
The huge, red, velvet bag beside the "Ka Yan" Christmas tree was full to the very top with presents. The beams of the early morning sun started to make its way into "Ka Yan" through peaks in the window's blinds. The day had finally arrived and soon the wrapped presents would be opened.
