Sa Sa (Kingdom Yuen) and 11th brother (Lee Kwok Lun) make an announcement that morning at "Tung Mat Yuen."
Sa Sa opens up saying, "We hope you guys don't have plans tonight!" She looks around and glares, "Even if you do, change them!"
"Auntie, what's the big occasion?" Ah Nin (Frankie Lam) asks as he adds cream and sugar to his coffee.
With a big grin, Sa Sa exclaims, "My baby is coming home!"
Ah Nin stares at Sa Sa, "Auntie, when were you pregnant and when did you give birth?"
"Big brother, you may be up-to-date on business, but when it comes to family affairs, you're so behind!" Ah Yat (Joyce Chen) teases.
"Ah Nin, has no one told you?" Sa Sa asks.
"No... what's going on?"
"Auntie adopted a daughter," Ah Yuet (Michael Tse) explains.
"And no one told me?!" Ah Nin looks around.
Sa Sa shakes her head, "Ah Nin, as the big brother, you should be aware of these things! But you're too busy spending time with Rose or at 'Ka Yan' company working! You've been back for six months and we've only met a few times! It's as if you're still in Shanghai! Wait... where is Rose?"
Ah Nin teases Sa Sa, "Auntie, since you don't live with us anymore, you're also not up-to-date with our family affairs! Rose left for a business trip in Canada a few days ago. She's coming back soon."
11th brother smiles, "So everyone is free then?"
Everyone nods and says that they'll be at the party to welcome Ling-ling into the Seks' home.
Gam (Louis Yuen) asks Sa Sa, "What do you plan to wear?"
"My lucky golden chipao!"
"Are you trying to scare your daughter away or make her sight go blind?" Gam laughs.
[Kam Family Apartment]
Nim Chi (Nancy Sit) walks into the dining room fixing her earrings. She is surprised to see everyone at the dining table eating cup noodles. "What is going on? We're leaving for a party in ten minutes and you are all sitting around eating instant noodles?"
"Ma Chi, we're going to a party held in the Sek household!" Ah Yuet says.
Ah Lo (Bondy Chiu) nods as she chews her noodles, "If the food isn't bad, it's stolen from 'Tung Mat Yuen.' We need to eat up before going over there because there will be nothing to eat! Uncle and Auntie Chuen are too cheap!"
Nim Chi blinks, "But this party is set up by 11th brother and your auntie! She'll be cooking the dishes!"
"Oh my god! That's right!" Ah Yat slams her cup onto the table. "I'm so stupid! We have nothing to worry about because auntie's cooking."
"Where's Ah Nin?" Nim Chi notices that he wasn't around.
"Big brother had to work overtime today," Ah Yuet reports.
"What? But he promised that he would make it to the party!" Nim Chi's phone rings. It was Ah Nin. "Why are you working overtime? You said you would come to your auntie's party and greet her new daughter. What happened?"
"Sorry, Ma Chi. I'm being rushed and I really have to finish up today," Ah Nin apologizes.
"Don't say 'sorry' to me! Save that for your auntie!"
"Oh, don't worry! I already talked to her. She said it's fine."
"Nevermind, then. Don't work too hard." Nim Chi hangs up the phone and turns to her family at the dining table. "Ready to go?"
[Sek Family Apartment]
11th brother, Sa Sa, and Ling-ling (Jenny Shing) stand at the door to greet the Kams as they approached the Seks' apartment.
"Ling-ling, say 'hello' to your family!" Sa Sa urges.
Ling-ling gives everyone a big smile and curtsies. The Kams are in awe at how adorable the little girl looked. "Auntie Chi, cousin Yuet, cousin Yat." She turns towards Gam and giggles, "H5N1, isn't that right?" She mocked Gam's signature "isn't that right" phrase and even copied his hand movements.
"You're a clever little girl, aren't you?" Gam laughs. He rubs her head, "I like you!"
"Auntie, did you teach Ling-ling to say that?" Ah Yat asks.
"I'm totally innocent!" Sa Sa pretends to know nothing.
"There's a lot of food inside. Come on, let's head on in!" 11th brother ushers everyone into the apartment.
Ah Lo rolls her eyes, "If it isn't cheap food, it is stolen or spoiled."
Nim Chi's phone rings just when she was about to enter the apartment. She excuses herself and stands in a corner to answer the call.
"Hello? Rose? What's wrong?"
["Ka Yan" Company]
The sky was dark and gloomy by the time Joey (Bernice Liu) and Ah Nin finally finished working.
Joey frowns taking a glance at the condition outside, "It's so dark and cloudy!"
"Do you want a ride home?" Ah Nin offers.
"Sure."
"I'll have to charge you."
"Why?"
"Gas prices are going sky high these days! I can't give free rides anymore! There's inflation in gas price, but not in my salary!" Ah Nin teases.
[Outside of "Ka Yan" Company]
Joey and Ah Nin are standing at the glass doors of "Ka Yan" company about to head outside when thunder clashes and rain pours heavily from the sky. "Oh, great! Just my luck." Joey frowns. "I thought the weather channel was going to be wrong again! They always say it's going to rain, but it never does! Today they finally got it right!"
"That's fate for you."
"I don't have my umbrella today." Joey sighs. "I'm going to get all wet!"
"Luckily I have one." Ah Nin pulls out an umbrella from his briefcase.
"Wow, how did you know it was going to rain?"
Ah Nin winks at Joey. "Being in this business, you have to always be aware of the weather! Who knows when a client will want to speak to us and we'll have to be ready at all times." Seeing Joey's serious face listening intently, Ah Nin cracks a smile and laughs.
"What?"
He holds up his cell phone, "I applied for weather service! They text message me, so I'm always alert!"
Joey playfully hits Ah Nin.
"Another hit and you'll be soaked! I won't drive you home!" Ah Nin threatens.
[Streets]
The rain continued to beat down as Joey and Ah Nin walked under his baby blue umbrella. Ah Nin was holding the umbrella.
"Where did you park?" Joey asks.
"We'll reach the parking lot soon," Ah Nin assures. He looks at Joey and questions, "Why are you standing so far apart? You'll get wet."
Joey looks down at the sidewalk as she moves closer to Ah Nin. Her heart skips and she blushes. The scene reminds her of four years ago when the two walked together in the rain. Fatefully, they ended up eating in the same fast food restaurant one night. It was raining when they wanted to leave. Luckily, the restaurant sold umbrellas. When the two of them got to the front of the line to purchase an umbrella, there was only one left. They ended up sharing the umbrella.
Joey remembers how shy and thrilled she was to spend a quiet evening walking in the cool rain sharing an umbrella with Ah Nin. It was romance in the rain. She gives a quick glance up at Ah Nin. Their faces were so close that she felt she could lean up and plant a kiss on his lips. Ah Nin notices that Joey was looking at him and turns his face towards her. Their eyes met.
Joey turns her head away towards the road. An uncomfortable silence resulted.
Ah Nin notices a car zooming by. He grabs Joey and spins her to the other side of the sidewalk. A light puddle splashes onto Ah Nin's back as the car passed. Ah Nin's arms were wrapped on Joey's shoulder. Her eyes travel from his hands to his face. Joey's heart beats profusely in her chest. The two stood there motionlessly on the sidewalk, looking at one another as the rain continued to drop on their single roof of an umbrella.
On the other side of the road, Rose (Kenix Kwok) stood there watching the scene between Ah Nin and Joey. She throws her white umbrella onto the sidewalk and starts running. Rain soaked her from head to toe. Rose's tears became one with the raindrops.
