Chapter 19

Old News

They sat in the corner of the restaurant waiting for the food. Yoochun was enjoying the night view, complimenting Junsu on making a good choice for dinner.

Junsu was lost in his own thoughts.

Yoochun had said ‘As long as you’re you,’ but he didn’t say anything more. He didn’t say ‘I only want to be with you’ or ‘I love you’. No, never ‘I love you.’

The food arrived and Junsu distracted himself.

“Su, slow down!” Yoochun chuckled.

“It’s good food!”

“But you don’t have to rush! We have all night!”

But do we have ‘forever’?

The more depressing thoughts ran through his mind, the more Junsu ate…the more he wanted to be distracted.

“How about some wine?”

“Only if you don’t go overboard with it,” Yoochun insisted.

Junsu didn’t bother to reply. He ordered the wine.

As he watched Yoochun drink the wine, Junsu spoke silently in his mind, ‘Chunnie, I want to get you drunk, because it’s the only time you’ll look at me as if you really love me.’

When Yoochun finished his glass, Junsu poured him some more. “Su…”

“It’s a Friday night. No work tomorrow. We’ll call a cab home,” Junsu cut him off.

“Okay…” Yoochun replied with wariness in his voice. He wondered if something was wrong with Junsu.

Junsu knew that something was definitely wrong with himself.

Yoochun woke up to the ache in his neck. He tried to change his sleeping position, but could not. He opened his eyes to see himself lying near the edge of the couch while Junsu was next to him, the younger man’s upper body over his own and using his chest as a pillow.

Yoochun tilted his neck to look at Junsu’s angelic sleeping expression. A smile touched Yoochun’s lips. He noticed that Junsu did put on a little bit more weight, but it only made him look cuter.

He only hoped that Junsu was not eating out of stress. He didn’t like the thought that his innocent angel was stressed.

Was Junsu stressed? What was bothering him? Why doesn’t he talk to Yoochun about it? Yoochun should be the first person Junsu would go to for his troubles.

But was Junsu the first person Yoochun would go to? Yoochun didn’t know…but the answer definitely wasn’t ‘no’.

Yoochun saw the frown form on Junsu’s brows and felt the urge to smooth it away. Was it a bad dream?

Then the younger man’s hand moved to clutch his stomach, the frown turned into a cringe.

“Su, what’s wrong?”

Junsu’s eyes opened as he looked up at Yoochun. He lifted himself up on one arm and looked confused for a moment. Then his eyes widened in horror and the other hand covered his mouth.

Junsu jumped over Yoochun to get off the couch and ran towards the bathroom on the bottom floor of their mansion. Confused and worried, Yoochun followed.

He found Junsu kneeling on the ground and puking into the toilet. Yoochun knelt down next to him and soothed his back with a hand, turned away so he could not see the contents in the toilet.

When Junsu was done, Yoochun grabbed some tissues to offer to his spouse. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, it’s probably the alcohol from last night…and all the food I ate.”

“I told you not to eat all that. Come on, let’s get you into bed.”

Instead of helping Junsu stand up, Yoochun lifted him up. Junsu looked shocked that Yoochun was carrying him.

Hell, his spouse was looking shocked that he was carrying him! Isn’t there something wrong with that?

With some effort, Yoochun overcame the stairs and successfully tucked Junsu into bed. He pulled the blanket into place and was about to turn around to leave.

“Wait,” Junsu stopped him. “Will you…join me? It’s still early and you don’t have work today.”

Yoochun looked hesitant. He’d wanted to go call for a doctor. Junsu misunderstood his expression as an unwillingness to join and his heart broke.

But he still shamelessly pleaded, “Please? I’ll recover from a hangover faster if I had a nice teddy bear to cuddle.”

Yoochun had to smile at his cuteness. How could this innocent angel ever be the horrible target of the gossips at work?

He lifted the blanket and slid under it. Junsu hugged him immediately and snuggled close. Yoochun smiled even more as he returned the embrace.

“Su-ah,” he spoke after a few minutes of comforting silence.

“Hmm?” Junsu hummed in his soft voice.

“Can I not be a teddy bear?”

“Huh?” Junsu opened his eyes to look at Yoochun.

“I used to play with stuff rabbits when I was a little kid. Can I be a cuddly rabbit instead?”

Junsu burst into a laugh and Yoochun wanted to capture the sound. It would make a wonderful ringtone.

“Of course!” Junsu grinned as he snuggled even closer, hiding his happy expression against Yoochun’s neck.

“Good!” Yoochun laughed. “I’ll be your cuddly rabbit and you’ll be my lovely angel.”

Junsu’s smile faded.

‘Angel’.

Junsu forced himself to push the thought away as he tightened his embrace around Yoochun, never wanting to let go.

‘Angel’.

He really didn’t want to let go…

“We’ll go to the mountains next time! There’s an awesome restaurant known for Heavenly desserts!”

“At this rate, I’ll turn into a pig! Not everyone is like you, you know? Some of us DO gain weight!”

“But you’ll look great either way,” Changmin laughed as Kibum blushed.

Because he turned his head away to blush, Kibum was able to see Jaejoong’s car in the distance. “Changmin, you can drop me off here.”

“But your house is…”

“I’ll walk. I need the exercise.”

Changmin was confused. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, please,” Kibum smiled at him to allay his confusion.

“Okay,” Changmin agreed, not wanting to push Kibum to tell him why. He stopped the car and allowed Kibum to get out.

“Thank you for a great day. I’ll see you next time!” Kibum grinned.

“I hope that time comes soon!” Changmin replied. Kibum stood there waving as he drove off.

In the rearview mirror, Changmin saw Kibum turning to walk towards his house. Was it odd that Changmin didn’t want to leave Kibum?

He glanced at the empty passenger seat, wishing it wasn’t empty. And it wasn’t. Kibum’s cell phone was peaking through the slit of the seat.

Awesome! An opportunity to see Kibum again!

Changmin grinned like a mad man as he made a U-turn towards Kibum’s house. But he had to stop a couple blocks away, hitting the brakes in time to not cause a screeching noise.

He saw Kibum holding onto the hand of a beautiful blond man and pulling him into the house.

“He could have seen you!” Kibum exclaimed as he dragged the older man into his house.

“He won’t recognize me if he’s never met me,” Jaejoong drawled with a raised eyebrow. “Besides, you didn’t tell me that you were on a date with him.”

“It’s not a date,” Kibum retorted. “Just hanging out.”

“Sure, keep lying to yourself.”

“What do you want?”

“I dug up something…or rather, someone new. But I guess you’re too blinded to care,” Jaejoong mocked.
