Chapter 26

Jaejoong was right.

Didn’t Yoochun have the foundation for a relationship? Junsu had fallen in love with him when he didn’t even know what Yoochun looked like!

He was hurting now because he ran away from the truth. He would hurt even if he faced the truth and got rejected.

Yoochun opened his eyes to look up at the ceiling in his room. He pushed himself to sit up on his bed.

Yoochun would rather hurt because of ‘rejection’ than to hurt because of ‘regret’.

He had to try. No matter how minimal the chance. He just had to try. He wouldn’t regret if he tried (at least, not as much as he would regret if he didn’t try).

Jaejoong was right.

No more running away. No more breaking the promise he made to Umma.

Yoochun stood up from the bed and glanced over at the hat sitting on his desk.

Fist clenched and eyes determined, he just grabbed his jacket and ran out of the apartment.

“We’re going to do it today?”

“Yes, because we know they’ll both crack eventually. Our plan will just speed up the process and determine the results sooner,” Jaejoong clarified.

They’d spent most of their lunch time plotting and scheming.

“Okay, so let’s do a rundown,” Yunho suggested.

Se7en pulled out the piece of paper that Jaejoong had written up and began to read:

[Plan]

Current time: 4:31

4:35 - Changmin and Se7en will go buy some fake blood and then drive up to the mountains to set up the scene.

4:45 - Jaejoong will go find Yoochun at home, drug him, and then drive his unconscious body to the location. (Jaejoong can drive to location in about ten minutes.)

4:47 - Scene should be completely set up.

4:50 - Yunho will go to Junsu’s house and tell him about Yoochun being in accident. Let him freak out for two seconds and then drive him to location. Drive from Junsu’s house to location should take fifteen minutes.

[End Plan]

“Is it really okay to leave such little time between each task?” Yunho observed.

“It’ll be fine!” Jaejoong assured with confidence. “My plans work 80% of the time!”

“Okay, let’s get going then!” Changmin hurried.

Junsu was sitting in the bubble chair on the balcony. His knees were to his chest and his chin rested on his knees. His stomach grumbled because he still hadn’t eaten lunch. But he really didn’t have the appetite.

Although he wouldn’t mind eating some steak right now…and have a glass of orange juice to go with it.

Junsu sighed and closed his eyes. For the past days, he would only laze around the house and think about the memories he’d shared with Micky. The memories of their time on the island were made of darkness because Junsu was blind at the time. He spent his days trying to turn the darkness into pictures with Yoochun’s face on Micky’s voice.

Junsu opened his eyes again and reached for the two items that were situated in the bubble chair next to him. The dolphin figurine was easy to pick up, but the picture had slid under the cushion so he had a bit more difficulty trying to recover it.

‘Look on the bright side,’ was on the dolphin figurine. It was Micky’s birthday present for Junsu.

The picture was of Yoochun and his younger brother.

“Your Micky isn’t real. Your Micky is beautiful. That person doesn’t exist. You’ll get over it.”

“Yoochun…” Junsu tried to speak, but he just couldn’t come up with anything.

Yoochun smiled sadly. It was the first time Junsu had said his real name. He’d never said it before because he just didn’t want anything to do with Yoochun.

And he wouldn’t have anything to do with Yoochun from now on.

“I’m done and I don’t think you have anything more to say to me. Good-bye, Mr. Kim.”

Yoochun released a breath and smiled. Looking ever so relaxed and relieved, he walked into his room.

Feeling like someone had just smashed his head against a wall, Junsu slowly stood up from the chair. He was about to let himself out of the apartment when he looked down and saw the broken picture frame under the coffee table. It must have been knocked over during the fist fight.

The frame was broken, the glass irreparable, the picture fallen out. The picture was of the two brothers.

[E.n.d.F.l.a.s.h.b.a.c.k]

Junsu had taken…or rather, stolen that picture. His index finger brushed the image of Se7en in the photo. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if Se7en was really ‘Micky’?

But if Se7en was ‘Micky’ then Junsu wouldn’t have fallen in love with him.

Junsu had fallen in love with Micky when he didn't even know what Micky looked like. This was true love, wasn't it?

Junsu had spent his whole life looking for true love. Money mattered, power mattered, but in the end, true love would be the only thing that would ALWAYS matter.

Who would have thought that Kim Junsu was such a lovesick idiot?

If he let go of Micky, then he would never have true love.

True love. True love. True love didn't come knocking at the door. It's something that needs to be hunted down and treasured, isn't it?

Micky was the treasure, the true love. Right?

In the movies, they always said that looks didn’t matter if it was true love. Looks don’t really matter, does it?

There was only one way to find out. And Junsu was too damn sick of living with memories and a dolphin figurine. Memories and a dolphin figurine aren’t ‘happily-ever-after’.

He wanted the real person who made him laugh, made him sad, made his blood pressure sky rocket. He recalled all the times when Micky had insulted him, mocked him and Junsu smiled.

He really wanted to see Micky right now. He was too tired to care about whatever else right now.

Junsu abandoned the chair (along with the figurine and the photo) and his room to run downstairs.

He opened the door (ready to storm out), but froze in place. Maybe True Love did come knocking at doors because there, before him, stood his True Love.

“Micky…” Junsu murmured. “I mean, Yoochun…”

Yoochun was standing there, his hands behind his back to hide the shaking caused by anxiety. But his voice still shook when he said, “I did all the talking last time. I should have let you talk. Now you have the chance to talk, but frankly, I only need one word from you.”

“What?” Junsu asked. There was suddenly that pit in his stomach again now that he saw Yoochun in person. He tried not to look at the scar, but then, Yoochun wasn’t exactly looking at Junsu either.

“Not that word,” Yoochun stammered, “I need a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. I need an answer. Are you…still in love with me?”

‘Still’.

Junsu reminded himself of the misery he’d been suffering in the past days. He took in a breath and mentally slapped himself for being such a coward.

“Yes.”

Yoochun smiled a bit and Junsu’s eyes remained on his lips. He’d once kissed those lips, hadn’t he? It was a ‘trip and fall’ accident that caused the kiss, but it was still a kiss.

“Want to go on a date?”

That caught Junsu off-guard. “What?”

“Just a walk in the park?” Yoochun tried.

Junsu finally noticed that Yoochun wasn’t wearing his hat, although a bit of his hair still covered some of his face.

“O…okay,” Junsu murmured.

Yoochun smiled again and Junsu felt the familiar ‘thump’ in his heart. It was the good kind of ‘thump’.

Junsu ran back upstairs to get changed. He went through several sets of clothing until he finally settled on one. Yoochun waited patiently downstairs.

“I’m ready,” Junsu announced ten minutes later. The clock in his living room flashed ‘4:31’.

“I believe you have a park near your home. Let’s go there,” Yoochun suggested.

Still wondering what Yoochun was up to, Junsu could only nod in agreement.

They walked out of the house and Junsu waited for Yoochun to remember that he wasn’t wearing a hat. Yoochun never mentioned a hat as they walked silently, side by side.

“How…have you been?” Junsu tried to start a conversation, his eyes shifting to their surroundings to see if people could see them.

“Miserable,” Yoochun replied in a casual tone. He noticed Junsu’s shifting eyes. He walked faster so that they could reach the park where there were plenty of people to stare at them.

Junsu blinked when he heard the word and was suddenly too distracted to care about other people. “‘Miserable’?”

“Yeah,” Yoochun shrugged in the same casual manner. He felt slightly more relaxed now than he had when he was knocking at Junsu’s door.

He kept repeating three lines to himself: ‘Look on the bright side,’ ‘Life is too short for regrets,’ and ‘Kim Junsu is still in love with me.’
