Qian got home to find her stepmother exercising in the in the living room.
“Hi honey! You’re home. The hospital called your father in this morning, so he won’t be home today. I was thinking that we could go shopping then to lunch, after that we can catch a movie or something. What do you think? Just the two of us…” Lily stopped talking once she saw the look on Qian’s face. “Qian, honey, what’s wrong?”
“Qian looked at her stepmother and couldn’t help but broke down and cry. Lily hurried toward Qian and gave her a hug.
“Sshh…Sshh…it’s going to be alright. Let me know what’s going on.”
“Lily…my heart…my heart feel so tight…I feel so suffocated…I feel like I can no longer breathe.”
“Honey, don’t scare me like that. What happened last night?” Lily demanded.
Through her tears, Qian told her step mother about Ray, Michelle, and everything that had happened between them three.
“My poor child,” Lily said and leaned over to hug the child in front of her. “If he failed to recognize how wonderful you are, then he is a fool. Don’t you worry, everything’s going to be alright.”
As Lily finished her sentence, the door bell rang. Looking through the peep hole, Lily recognized the young man on the other side of the door is Raymond.
“It’s Raymond,” she turned to Qian and said.
“I don’t want to see him right now, tell him I’m not home,” Qian told her stepmother and left into the kitchen.
Lily opened the door and greeted Raymond
“Hello Mrs. Li. I cam to see Qian, is she home?” Ray immediately asked.
“I’m sorry but Qian is not home right now,” Lily replied.
“But I saw her car in the driveway,” Raymond hesitated. “Please, I really need to speak with her; if she’s not home could you please tell me where she is?”
“I don’t know where she is at the moment, and I don’t think she wants to speak with you at the moment,” Lily couldn’t take it any longer, the only thing she wants to do right now is to choke this guy to death for hurting Qian so much.
Ray knew that no mater how long he plead, she will never let him see Qian. So he excused himself and went home.
“RAY! Where have you been the whole night?” Michelle demanded once she saw Ray.
“Have Qian called you?” Ray asked without answering Michelle’s question.
“Qian? She hasn’t called me the whole morning. Why?”
“Nothing, I just have the sudden urge of wanting to talk to her.” After their short conversation, Ray left Michelle standing in the living room to go to his bedroom. Raymond lazily flopped his body onto his bed and tried to get some shut eyes. But every time he shuts his eyes, images of Qian would come into his mind: her laughs, her cries, and her warm consoles. How could he ever hurt someone that means so much to him?
