Time went by without looking back. The day has come for Ray, Qian, and Michelle to graduate from UCLA. After 4 years of intense studying, Ray and Michelle were both accepted into law school. As for Qian, she wanted to go into med school to be a pediatrician. That summer was their last summer together, which means Qian’s last summer with Ray. The past two years she spent as Ray’s girlfriend was the best two years of her life. She didn’t want this summer to be their last summer together. But little did she know what fate has in stored for her this summer. A summer she and the people around her will never forget as long as they live…
Qian woke up to find her pillows soaked with blood. This is the 3rd time in a row this week. She has been getting nose bleed before, but somehow these past few weeks have been way intense. She would get a nose bleed almost every other day. Luckily, she would get them in her sleep or when no one’s around, or else she would scare others to death, especially Raymond.
‘Maybe it’s the hot summer weather,’ Qian thought about her nose-bled once and forget about it. She got out of bed and got ready for her date with Raymond. Today they were going to pick strawberries at a farm with Michelle and her boyfriend. She is too excited to think about her measly nose bleed.
Qian got dressed and bounced into the living room to find Ray sitting there talking and drinking coffee with her dad and step-mom. A little taken back by this, Qian just stood there to look at them. ‘Sure, my parents have met Ray. And sure they get along very well. But…WHAT THE HECK?!?! He’s drinking coffee in the morning with my parents now? What’s going on?’
“Heyyy…look who’s finally decided to wake up?” her father laughed.
“Good morning Dad, Lily…Raymond. What are you doing here? I thought you said that we were going to meet up at your house? Did something go wrong?”
“Umm…not that I know of. I just thought to come pick you up instead. Am I not welcomed?”
“Ahh…don’t listen to her Ray,” Qian’s father took over before she could reply. “My daughter here is full of questions and worries. She’s going to be one of those nagging wives.”
“Dad!!!” Qian scolded.
“What?? I’m speaking the truth. Right, Ray?”
“Well, I guess I’m just going to have to manage.” Ray replied and gave Qian a sly smile.
Everyone in the room laughed except for Ray and Qian because Ray wasn’t trying to be funny, and Qian was just too embarrassed to laugh.
“Ughhh…” Qian scoffed and walked into the kitchen. “Lily, do you want me to help you with breakfast?”
“Sure, why don’t you help me set the table?”
“Kae.”
That morning’s breakfast was delicious. Qian looked around the table, a warm feeling suddenly radiates throughout her body making her wanting to hug and kiss every single person sitting at the table that morning. ‘This is my family” she thought and smiled to herself…
“There you guys are. We thought that you weren’t going to show” Michelle complained and pouted her lips when she finally saw Qian and Ray walking toward them.
“Sorry…my parents wanted us to stay for breakfast before we leave. So, it got kind of prolonged.” Qian apologized.
“Well, that’s okay. You guys just have to treat David and me to dinner tonight. Deal?”
“Umm…alright” Qian smiled.
Even though it was only 10 in the morning, the scorching summer heat was already pounding against their skin. Did not want to waste anymore time before the sun sets, the two couples began their activity of picky strawberries.
Because they were so busy picking strawberries, they didn’t even notice the sudden change in the weather. The scorching sun was no longer shining above them. Instead, it was replaced by a thick, dark cloud. In a matter of minutes rain drops began to fall from the sky.
“What the heck?? It’s raining…in JUNE!!!” Qian couldn’t help but exclaimed.
“I know…this is weird” Ray continued. “There’s probably a storm somewhere.”
The four youngsters picked up their basket full of strawberries and ran into the nearest cabin. Once they were inside the cabin, the four of them were almost soaking wet. Seeing that there are some drops of rain on his girlfriend’s face, Ray used his hand to brush them away. In the exact same moment Michelle looked over to where the couple was and saw everything that was happening.
‘That could have been me with Ray right now,’ she couldn’t help but felt a little jealous.
“Are you alright?” Michelle jumped at David’s question. “Are you cold?”
“Nah...I’m alright.” Michelle answered with a forced smile.
“Well, I guess this is it for today. I think we should head back to L.A.” David turned to everyone and said.
“Yeah, I think so too” Ray agreed.
With everything said and done, the two couples got into their cars and headed home. Because of the rain, the road was slippery and the forecast was not that great. Therefore, Ray and David were being extra careful while driving. For safety purpose, Ray would look into his rearview mirror every now and then to see if David’s car is still in back of him. As for David, he would always try to keep up with Ray because he didn’t want to get lost.
“David slow down, the road is slippery,” Michelle warned when she felt that David was speeding up.
“Sorry hun, just that I don’t want to get lost,” David apologized.
“Well, don’t drive any faster. I want to live to eat tonight’s dinner,” Michelle said with a tone of annoyance.
“What’s wrong with you? I’ve noticed you’ve been acting really strange when we’re around Ray and Qian. What’s going on between you guys? Is there something you’re not telling me?”
“What??? All I said was to slow down. SOOORRRYYY for wanting to be alive,” Michelle’s reply was full of sarcasm.
David could feel all his anger was boiling up.
“Don’t think I don’t know anything! I know everything! You’re mad because Ray is with Qian and not you, and that you’re with me only to get Ray out of your mind.”
“What the hell are you talking about? Just shut up!” Michelle screamed with teary eyes.
“You think that I don’t know you’re using me to get over Ray? I do, the only reason why I didn’t confront you about it is because I love you so much, and I really wanted to be with you. I was hoping that you will get over him someday. But I guess not.”
“David, just shut up, please?” Michelle pleaded with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Realizing what he had done, David began to apologize to Michelle.
“David…David…keeps your eyes on the road…DAVID!!!”
