For the next 2 weeks, Ray spent all his time awake at the hospital right by Michelle’s side. Qian was worried about Ray’s health and had asked him to get some rest, but he acted as though he didn’t hear her. Holding all her sadness and disappointments inside, Qian stayed by his side and gave him all her supports.
It was a day like every other day. Qian woke up to find some more blood on her pillows. ‘What’s wrong with me?’ she thought to herself. ‘Oh…crap. I need to take some breakfast to the hospital for Ray.’ Pushing all her thoughts aside, Qian got out of her bed and went into the bathroom.
“OHMIYGOD!!! Qian! Where are you honey?!?!” Qian heard her stepmother’s frightful voice and immediately thought about her bloody pillows.
‘Lily must have seen my pillow cases.’
“Lily? I’m in the bathroom. What’s wrong?” Qian finally answered.
“Honey,” Lily said once QIan stepped into the room. “What happened? How come your pillows are full of blood?”
“Oh. It was nothing. My nose was bleeding that’s all.”
“What? Since when did you get nose bleeds? You’ve never had that when you were little.”
“I don’t know. But I’m okay now. So don’t worry. Don’t tell my Dad yeah? I don’t want him to be worried.”
“Okay, I won’t tell your dad. But I’m going to take you to the hospital to get that checked out right now.”
“Lily, that won’t be necessary. Beside, I need to bring Ray some breakfast.”
“Good, since you’re going to the hospital anyway. We can stop by your father’s office and tell him about your bloody nose.”
“Alright, alright. I’ll…I mean…WE’LL go check it out.”
“Okay. Oh, honey. You scared me half to death just now.” Lily said and gave Qian a lovingly hug.
Qian smiled to herself and thought about her parents…ALL OF THEM…. Although, Qian’s parents are no longer together, but she still considered herself lucky because her step-parents love her like one of their own.
…hospital…
“Doctor, is there something wrong with my daughter?” Lily asked once the doctor came out from the check up room.
“Well, we’ve just drawn some of her blood. We will run some tests and will let you know by the end of this week.”
“Oh okay. But, is it something serious? She has been very tired lately, and her nose would bleed almost every other day…”
Lily stopped talking once she saw Qian coming out from the check up room.
Taking a seat right next to Lily, QIan asked the doctor.
“Will I be alright?”
“Qian, as for now, I cannot tell whether or not you’ll be alright. Like I told your mother, we will run some tests on your blood and we’ll let you know. As for the time being, just take care of yourself.”
“Okay, thank you doctor.”
A week has gone by. Ray did not call nor come to see her. Qian felt hey days have become dull and unbearable. It was a week ago that she went to get a health check up; today should be the day that her test results arrive. But why hasn’t the doctor called her? Is her condition that bad? Many thoughts are running through Qian’s mind like a carousel.
…Ring…Ring…
Qian’s thoughts were interfered by the sound of the house phone.
“Hello? Li’s residence…Yes, this is Mrs. Li…yes…yes…thank you very much, we’ll be right there.”
“Qian honey!” Lily went to Qian’s room after she hung up the phone. “That was Doctor Weissmen, he said your test results came back and he wants to speak with you immediately. He sounded concerned.”
