Mrs. Lin: Is AGM in?
Joe: Mrs. Lin? AGM is in.. Just a moment (intercom Qiao En) AGM, Mrs. Lin is here looking for you.
Qiao En: Ok.. noted.
Qiao En stood up and walked towards the door. She opened the door and was real surprise to see her mother-in-law standing right in front of her. Ming Dao who happened to walk past saw that and decided to walk towards them.
Qiao En: M…
Ming Dao: Ma.. what are you doing here?
Mrs. Lin (in a soft tone): Let’s go inside.
Ming Dao and his mother went into Qiao En’s office. Seeing that scene, the staff out there gathers around and talks about that.
Sophia: Eh.. why’s Mrs. Lin looking for AGM?
Joe: Don’t know.. .
Guy 1: GM went in also right?
Joe: Yah..
Sophia: hmm… something’s fishy sia…
All: agree…
In the office,
Ming Dao: Ma.. you seldom come to office. What brings you here today?
Mrs. Lin (opening the flask and pour some soup out): Can’t I be deliver soup for my daughter-in-law?
Ming Dao: Ma.. I…
Qiao En (help Ming Dao out): Ma.. that’s not what he meant lah..
Mrs. Lin (hand the bowl of soup to her): I brewed this especially for you. You are pregnant now, should take more tonic.
Ming Dao: Ma.. you are being bias!
Mrs. Lin: She’s your wife, pregnant still have to work. I have to take care of her..
Ming Dao: Since she insists there’s also nothing I can do what…
Qiao En: Ma.. Actually you don’t have to bring it specially; you will only tire yourself out. I am only two months pregnant now, still able to work..
Mrs. Lin (sigh): Ming Dao you better take care of Qiao En.. first three months of pregnancy is very prone to miscarriage.
Ming Dao (hand resting on Qiao En’s shoulders): I will..
Mrs. Lin: by the way I have spoken to your uncle and most likely I will attend the dinner.
Ming Dao & Qiao En were stunned to hear that.
Ming Dao: oh? Why the sudden change of mind? [POV] I guess Ma wants to witness it personally that I disclose Qiao En and my relationship bah.
Mrs. Lin: You should know.
Qiao En: huh?
Mrs. Lin: Never mind about him (tapping Qiao En’s hand) remember to be home early. This morning your mom called, she was so delighted when I told her you are pregnant. You didn’t tell her?
Qiao En: Opps.. I forgot..
Mrs. Lin (stood up): well, I am going home. Both of you remember to be home early.
Ming Dao & Qiao En: Orh..
Ming Dao gave Qiao En a kiss before sending his mother out of her office. Though she’s still not used to him doing this in the office, she knows she will have to get used to it once their marriage has been disclosed. Thinking about it, it’s actually not a bad thing.. they are married so is normal for them to do this.
Seeing Ming Dao and his mother went out, the staff started their guessing again.
Sophia: Hmm… GM’s mother… GM and AGM…
Guy 1: Are they really together?
Joe: Don’t know leh.. apart from bumping into them coming together.. didn’t really see them together leh..
They didn’t know that when they are talking about that Ming Dao was already standing behind them. He heard every single thing they said.
Ming Dao [POV]: looks like is really time or else situation will get worse when her tummy grows.
He just gave a light cough and went straight into his office. The staff were shocked and wondered if he heard what they said.
About 4pm in the afternoon, the director’s secretary passed a message to Ming Dao and Qiao En’s secretaries asking them be in director’s office.
(knock knock)
Ming Dao: Come in.
Sophia: GM, director wants to see you in his office.
Ming Dao: Alright. Thanks.
The same thing happened at Qiao En’s side too.
Qiao En: hmm.. thanks joe.
Joe: You are welcome.
Qiao En [POV]: All of the sudden looking for me? Hmm.. shall go see what’s up.
Both of them stepped out at the same time. When they were walking towards the director’s room.
Qiao En (whisper): Why all of the sudden your uncle is looking for us?
Ming Dao (shrugged his shoulder): no idea. Later will know loh.
(knock knock)
Director: come in.
Ming Dao & Qiao En: Director.
Director: have a seat.
(Ming Dao and Qiao En were seated)
Director (using a casual tone): This is just a verbal confirmation. With effect of after the annual D&D, Ming Dao you will be taking over the director position so that I can retire early. While your current position will be resumed by Qiao En.
Ming Dao was alright after hearing that but Qiao En was still stunned.
Qiao En: But..
Director: Your mother-in-law has requested for you to rest when you are five months pregnant. So you shall resume your position after giving birth.
Qiao En: She did mention before but didn’t expect she will tell you so soon. .. but isn’t this like a special treatment?
Director: Well, can’t really say this as special treatment. Just take it as you are on no-pay leave till you resume work. If any other staff wants that, they can apply for it.
Qiao En: I..
Ming Dao (hands on top of hers and nodded his head): I agree on that. That was my intention too.
Director: Qiao En, Ming Dao’s the only son that’s why can’t blame his mother for being so concern over your pregnancy. She dotes on you and the baby a lot.
Qiao En: I know that.. (sigh) well, I shall accept that.
Director: Glad to hear that.
