Chapter 3

“Unfortunately, I know you too.”

“Yah! Lily!” My sister shouted up the stairs.

I looked up, completely surprised. Where the hell was I? Did I fall asleep standing up? How in the world did I do that? I quickly changed into something casual before making my way down the stairs.

“Yeah?” I said as I made my way into the kitchen. She was eating… again. Man, how much does she eat? Really? That was like her fourth packet of chips! Where did she store all of them anyway? They certainly don’t go to her thighs, or any of her body parts for that matter. She was thin and beautiful, the exact opposite of me. How unfortunate that I’d receive all the bad genes! I guess if I was born first, I would get all the good genes. Aish, Lily, you cannot control the ways of the world, so get over it!

“Can you go to the store and buy some milk and orange juice?” Yuri asked.

I rolled my eyes at her. “Why? You have a car. Go get them yourself.”

“Yah! That’s no way to talk to your unni! Got it?” She shouted in my face.

I wiped my face with a tissue. She didn’t really have to speak with her mouth full. She spat almost all of those grinded chips on my face. Ugh…

“Why can’t you go get it yourself?” I whined.

“Yah! You have legs don’t you? Walk! You need some exercise anyway!” She said as she looked at me.

I stuck my tongue out at her. Really, what a nice sister I have! Was that her indiscreet way of telling me I’m fat? Oh, I’m insulted! I’m not fat! Just slightly meatier than her, that’s all!

“But these legs are meant for boots! And boots are meant for walking!” I sang that Jessica Simpson song with a grin.

She looked at me weirdly before focusing on her chips once again. “Yah! Go! Or else I won’t make dinner!”

I rolled my eyes as I stood up and grabbed the money she handed to me.

“All I eat is Ramen anyway. Even I can make that myself.” I mumbled under my breath.

I ducked when she threw her bag of chips at me. I smiled when it landed far from me.

“Missed me!” I said with a laugh as I made my way out.

Aish, seriously… what was the point of having a car if walking is easier? Of course it’s easier, where the hell would she find the money to pay for petrol? She just got out of school and she’s working at a coffee shop. How lame! Really! Serving coffee? It’s like being slaved! Like apartheid! You know, the slavery in uhh… was it Africa? Oh! Forgive me! Apartheid is racial segregation! How stupid of me! What I meant was uhh… just plain old slavery. Yeah, that’s it! What was the point in using difficult words when I don’t even understand what they mean? Aish…

So anyways, back to my rambling about my stupid sister, she’s totally being slaved! She doesn’t earn that much, and she spent more time at the coffee shop than me spending time in school… Hmm, come to think of it, she’s the pathetic sister, not me! Oh yeah! I win!

I smiled when I finally arrived at the store. It was a very long walk! No exaggeration there… Well, maybe a little. But it was a long walk nonetheless. I’ll have to tell her that when I get back.

I walked into the air-conditioned store and smiled once again. How refreshing! I wish we have one at home. Sleeping would be so much better! Maybe I should sneak in here at night. Evil thoughts! Evil thoughts!

I quickly grabbed a carton of milk and orange juice. Thank God they’re in the same place. I hate grocery shopping! I was about to head towards the counter when I caught sight of one of the Big Bang boys. I rolled my eyes. Seriously, I should stop doing that. It’s starting to hurt my head. It was TaeYang.

Why oh-so-divine-above, why? What did I do wrong? Why am I being punished like this? Isn't seeing them at school torturous enough? Why do I have to meet them in public? Meeting one is like meeting all of them together, it’s the same god-damn thing!

I hid in an aisle, unaware of where I was. I looked around. Damn it! I was in the candy aisle! I stood, wishing and hoping that he won’t suddenly have sweet tooth and stupid craving for candy.

No such luck! All these prayers are certainly not heard. Am I that bad? I tried to hide my face with my hair but too late, he saw me already.

“Hey, I know you.” He exclaimed in surprise.

I sighed before looking up at him, a grimace on my face. “Unfortunately, I know you too.”

He raised his eyebrow. “What are you doing here?”

I looked around at the stocked shelves, completely shock that he would ask me such a question when we’re clearly at a grocery store. See! I told you! Guys with good looks don’t go anywhere when they have pea brains! And I did not imply that he has good looks!

“Playing tennis.” I replied sarcastically. Hopefully he’s not too dumb to notice my apparent sarcasm.

“Oh, having fun?” He asked nonchalantly.

Really? Is he seriously that dumb? I glared at him. I noticed he was holding a packet of beers and a bottle of wine. Great, he was trying to get himself killed! Yay for me! One less pea brain at school! Whooo!

“Why are you talking to me?” I asked suddenly. I just wanna know. He’s so strange… Maybe he came from a different planet, you know… like Superman, minus the super part… and man too…

“What?” He asked, bewildered.

“Why are you talking to me?” I repeated the question slowly, just in case he was deaf too. “You guys don’t mix with uhh, what was that expression you used? Oh yeah, girls like me.”

“You intrigue me.” He replied with a small smile.

I rolled my eyes. “I wish I can say the same.”

“Huh?”

I snorted. “Oh please! You’re just trying to get in my pants!” I shouted.

Then my eyes widened as I realized what I just said. I clasped my mouth shut, holding the cartons in front of my face. I did not just say that out loud. Oh Gosh, what has gotten into me lately?

I peeked between the two cartons to see him smirking at me. My eyes widened a little bit more when he stepped closer to me.

“Mmm… you’re right. Where do you think we should do it then?” He whispered with a grin.

My jaw dropped. It was literally on the ground. What the hell was he playing at? I narrowed my eyes at him. I will not be played that easily!

I smiled at him before I too, leaned in. I have no idea where I got all these confidence from. Must have been dormant for the past 17 years. I watched as his eyes widened slightly. Finally! Now I can actually see the black of his eyes. Man, does he have small eyes or what? And that’s when I did it. I gathered all of my strength and stepped on his foot. That felt good!

“Yah!” He shouted at me as he bent down to look at it.

“Hah!” I said triumphantly as I stepped back. “I’ll have you know, I despise guys like you. And don’t talk to me. It’s too creepy.”

And with that, I turned my back to him, a victorious smile on my face. I went into another aisle and watched as he paid for his things and left before I paid mine. Just because I didn’t want to bump into him outside. God knows what he’ll do to me.

I was definitely in a good mood now! Oh yeah! Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing he was there. I looked at the information board outside the store before I leave. They usually have a lot of offers on there. I wanted a job to help pay all those bills.

I was searching for anything that looked interesting when an ad caught my eyes. The only thing it said was WANTED : AN EMPLOYEE. And then there’s the address and phone number. Hmm… strange. But I was curious. So I tore it from the board. I don’t want anyone else to apply for it! Yes, I’m selfish. I know. But so what?

When I finally got home, I showed the ad to Yuri.

“What’s this?” She asked.

Really, people should stop asking what things are when they’re in front of their face!

“It’s an ad! Can’t you read Yuri?” I said as I gulped my water down. I don’t call her unni, at least not a lot. Only when I want something do I call her unni. Aren’t I the best sister in the world?

She glared at me before she returned her attention on the paper.

“I know that.” She snapped. “But what job is it offering?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know.”

She raised her eyebrow at me. “You don’t know? Then why did you take it?”

“Because… I’m thinking of applying for it.” I replied as I sat down next to her.

“But you don’t even know what job it is!” Yuri exclaimed. “For all you know, it could be a job as a hooker or something!”

“Yeah! Or maybe part of a mafia group!” I said with exaggerated sarcasm. “Oh! Then I can finally kick their asses!”

I laughed when she narrowed her eyes at me. “Oh c’mon Yuri! Do you really think they’d post something like that on a family grocery store’s board?”

“But still!”

I shook my head as I grabbed the paper from her hand and made my way upstairs.

“You watch way too many movies!” I shouted at her.

Maybe she’s right. Well, just maybe… but it sounds interesting. I’ll have to give props to the person who made the ad. It definitely caught my eye. And I’m so curious! What kind of job would it be? Maybe I’ll have to dress like their pets and play with them… Hmm, doesn’t sound so bad. At least I’m not being slaved. I looked at the address. It wasn’t very far from school. I smiled. I’ll certainly be there tomorrow…
