Chapter 12

Because it was only a minor injury, Qian was released from the hospital the day after.
Came back from the restroom, she found Ray sitting in her room reading a magazine.
“What are you doing here? Where are Ron and Tavia?”
Ray looked up from the magazine and said.
“Hey! It’s the Crippled Lady! Ron and Tavia? They’re busy today. So they’ve asked me to come pick you up from the hospital. Why? I’m not welcomed? Fine. I’ll leave.” Put the magazine aside, Ray stood up and began walking toward the door.
“Hey! You can’t be like that!”
“Like what? You’re the one that doesn’t want me here,” Ray said innocently.
“Well, since you’re here. Can you get my stuff?” Qian asked with a sweet smile.
“Yes, young miss.” Ray gave Qian a dramatic bow, and then grabbed her bag.

…In the car…
“Are you hungry?” Ray asked.
“Yes, I’m starving. The hospital food is really yucky. I didn’t eat anything last night or this morning.”
“Oh…umm…you want to go to lunch then?” Ray hesitated.
“Umm…sure.” Qian answered, a little embarrassed.
They ate and chatted happily during lunch. For the most part, the two of them have created a familiarity zone for each other. They were able to find things that they have in common to talk about. For example, they both have a passion for singing. Qian told Ray about how she would always sing at her family’s gatherings when she was little. And somehow, Ray found himself telling Qian about the reason why he had stopped singing. Qian now understood why Ray didn’t sing that one night when they were at the karaoke bar.
Qian told Ray about how she wanted to be a flight attendant, but her parents insisted that she should become a business woman. Ray told Qian that she should go for her dreams, and forget what other people said. But then Qian told Ray that she is the only child and she needs to inherit her parents’ business. And Ray concluded in telling her to forget about what he said earlier.
Ray told Qian about his record label with Ron, and Qian really admired him for being so successful at such a young age.
As the hours passed by, all they did was talked about each other’s lives and enjoying each other’s company.
Until their meal was interrupted by Ray’s cell ringing.
“Ray? Where are you? Did you pick up Qian already?” Ray heard Tavia’s voice questioning him on the receiver.
“Yeah, I did. We went to get some lunch.”
“You what?!?!?”
“We went to get some lunch. Calm down.”
“Let…let me talk to her.”
Ray shrugged his shoulders and handed the phone to Qian.
“Hello?”
“Qian? Qian? Did my brother do anything to you?”
“Tavia, calm down. He didn’t do anything to me.”
Qian looked at Ray, who just rolled his eyes, and smiled.
“We’ll be home in a moment,” Qian continued. “Alright, I’ll see you later.”
“I sometimes feel like she’s more like my older sister than my younger sister,” Ray said as Qian was handing him the phone.
“She just worries about you.”
“She swears we’re going to kill each other whenever we’re alone.”
“Well…” Qian said softly. “Before, we would have just might.”
Ray let out a soft chuckle then said. “Were we that bad?”
“Yeah, we were.”
“Well, are we better now?”
“I don’t know. You tell me.”
“Well, Miss Qian. If you don’t mind, I would like you to be my friend.”
“No, I don’t mind at all Mr. Raymond.”
They both looked at each other and laughed.
