Qian couldn’t sleep that night. For some reason, her heart ached so much. Tears were swelling up in her eyes. All she could think about was that from tomorrow she won’t be able to see him anymore. She lay awake, hoping that the morning would never come.
To Qian’s dismay, morning began to show. Before she knew it, the shining sun began to rise over the horizon and brought light into another day. Qian opened her eyes to see her pillows are soaked in tears; she has been crying without knowing it herself. Pulling herself together, Qian got out of her bed and went to freshened herself up. She then went downstairs and saw Ron and Tavia sitting at the dining table, but Raymond was no where in sight.
“Hey Qian,” Tavia looked up to see Qian walking toward her.
“Morning guys,” Qian replied. Qian sat down at the table while Tavia was getting her breakfast. “Thanks Tav, I guess this is going to be our last meal together huh?”
“Hey! Don’t say that. We are going to have a lot more opportunity to eat together in the future,” Tavia scolded.
“Hmm,” Qian smiled as she looked at the staircase; hoping that Ray would walk down that staircase that instant.
Ron noticed this and said, “He’s not home.”
“Huh? What…what are you talking about?” Qian turned back to her plate and pretended to be eating.
“You… you want me to call him?” Tavia asked.
“No, no. Why? It doesn’t matter if he’s here. It’s better if he’s not here. We don’t have to fight on my last day here,” Qian tried to laugh it off. But pain is written all over her face. Ron and Tavia both noticed this, but didn’t dare to speak up.
After they were done with their breakfast, Qian went to her room to get the luggage ready to leave. In the room, Qian sat on the bed staring at her luggage. It was hard for her to move, because she knew that once she moved, she won’t be able to stop. So, she just sat there and stared at the baggage and space in front of her. Her attention was grabbed by the picture of Ray and Tavia on the night stand. Slowly, she stood up and reached for the photograph. Tracing Ray’s image with her fingers, Qian felt tears trickling down her cheeks. Before she knew it, Qian grabbed the phone and began to dial Ray’s cell number.
1st ring, 2nd ring, 3rd ring, 4th ring, 5th ring… “Hi, this is Ray. Sorry I’m not able to answer your call. Please leave a message and I’ll call you back.” *BEEEEP*
Took a deep breath, Qian began to speak into the receiver.
“Hey Ray. It’s me. I…I…I just want to say good-bye before I leave. You’re not here in the house, so I thought I should give you a call…but you didn’t pick up your phone either. So I guess it’s just not meant to be…huh? I…I don’t know when I will see you again. I hope you’ll take care of yourself and that you will remember me like how I will remember you. Bye Ray.”
Qian tried her best not to break down and cry in her message. But once she hung up, she began to let everything out. For the first time in her life she experienced love, and for the first time in her life she has to leave the one she loves behind. It was unbearable for her.
The drive to the airport was an awfully quiet drive. With Ron driving, Tavia in the passenger seat, and Qian sitting in the back gazing out the window. No one spoke a word; the tension in the car was so heavy that you need a forklift to lift it. Tavia tried to ease up the tension by turning up the radio. But to her luck, every song that came out on the radio was either about good-byes or broken hearts. Tavia knew that she messed up and almost immediately turned the radio off. The car went back to its original state of tension.
-Flash forward-
Ray went to the gym in hoping that he will be able to work off his desire for Qian.
‘She is leaving. If I’m going to keep her here, I will be preventing her from having a bright future. I can’t do that, I can’t be so selfish. Although, I know for a fact that I do love her; I have never loved anyone like I love her. What am I going to do? What am I going to do? I can’t picture how it will be like without her. I…I…I can’t let her go!’
With that Ray dashed into the locker room and grabbed his gym bag. On his way to the airport, Ray checked his phone and heard the message from Qian to him.
“Qian, don’t leave. Don’t leave just yet. Wait for me.” Ray spoke to himself while dialing Tavia’s cell.
“Hello?” Tavia answered.
“Tav?”
“Ray! Where are you!?!”
“I’m on my way to the airport. Where is Qian?”
“Qian? She’s checking in her luggage.”
“Tav, listen to me. Don’t let her get on that plane before I get there. You hear me?”
“I…okay…but come quickly okay?”
“Okay, I will.”
“Qian, wait for me.” Ray said once he hung up with Tavia.
