Tavia was in her bedroom when she was interrupted by a knock on the door that night. She opened the door to find Qian standing there with a wide smile.
“Hey. Whatsup?” Tavia asked.
“Yeah, I was wondering if I could use your computer to send an e-mail to a friend.” Qian answered.
“Sure, come on in.”
Qian followed Tavia into her room and sat in her chair while waiting for Tavia to turn on her computer.
“Who are you sending e-mail to?” Tavia asked once Qian began typing.
“A friend over the internet,” Qian answered without taking her eyes off the screen.
“Ah, I see. And this “friend”, is it a he or is it a she?”
“It’s a he. We’ve met in a chat room once, and kept in touch by e-mail since then.”
“Ooooh…an affair over the internet, how interesting. And have you met this friend of yours?”
“Met him? I don’t even know his real name. We called each other by our nick name…”
Without letting Qian finish her sentence, Tavia leaned in a took a peek at the content of her e-mail.
“ ‘Dear Prince-of-Darkness.’ PRINCE-OF-DARKNESS???? Hahahaha….that is soooooo corny.”
“Hey shut up!!! He’s a sweet guy.” Qian was in a hurry to defend her friend. “But…I’ll admit…it is a bit corny. He he.”
Tavia continued to read Qian’s e-mail without her permission.
“…Hong Kong? He lives in Hong Kong?” Tavia questioned.
“Yah, I didn’t tell you that?”
“No? Why aren’t you guys meeting each other already?”
“Well, I really want to. But I haven’t been able to contact him. He’s been real busy I think.”
“Umm…I see. Well e-mail him and tell him you want to meet up. See what he’s going to say.”
“That’s what I’m doing.” Qian said as she hit the “Send” button.
“Your message has been sent” appeared on the screen.
Qian took her eyes off the computer screen and glance over at the pink notebook on Tavia’s desk. Tavia saw this and immediately grabbed the book from Qian’s reach.
“HEY!” Qian exclaimed, then a mischievious look appeared on her face and she teased Tavia. “Is that your diary? Do you have secrets that you can’t tell people?”
“It’s none of your business Miss Nosy.”
“Hmm…c’mon, it’s me. You can trust me. Beside, I didn’t say anything when you were reading my e-mail. That was private!” Qian said.
Tavia took a minute and finally agreed to let Qian read her diary but made her swore not to let anyone know about the content of the diary.
“Fine, I’ll so whatever, as long as I get to read it.”
Tavia hesitated, but handed the notebook to Qian.
With a big smile on her face, Qian gladly accepted the notebook and began reading it. It didn’t take long for Qian to finish it, because all she did was skim the diary. She only read the juicy parts.
Once Qian was done with the diary, she looked up to find Tavia’s head buried in her knees.
“Tav? You alright?”
“No! I’m so embarrassed right now. You know all my secrets.”
“Aww…no need to be embarrassed. I have secrets too. And you can read them all in my diary later.”
“Okay,” Tavia said while pulling her face away from her knees.
Qian looked at Tavia for a few seconds then broke into laughter.
“What??? What are you laughing at?”
“Ron? You like Ron?”
“…” Tavia didn’t know what to say. She could feel her cheeks burning.
“Wow! Since high school huh? Long time. How come you’ve never told him?”
“I’m too embarrassed to.”
“Ah, I see. And you’ve been holding it in all these time?”
“Um-humm,” Tavia nodded.
“Even when you guys are living together? Nothing changed?”
“Nope”
“Ron, how could he be so dumb.”
At that same time, Ron was in Ray’s room. They were talking about no one other than Tavia.
Ray was sitting at his computer, and Ron was sitting on Ray’s bed. Ron seemed to want to say something, but he was hesitating to do it. Finally Ron decided to speak up.
“Ray,” Ron spoke softly.
“Whatsup dude?” Ray turned around and faced Ron.
“I…umm…you…”
“What? A cat got your tongue? Speak up. I’m getting old, my ears aren’t that great anymore,” Ray said while smiling.
Ron took a deep breath and finally spoke. “I think I have feelings for Tavia.”
“I know.” Ray said without any change on his face expression.
“I…what? You knew?”
“Yeah, I knew. I was just waiting for you to admit it.”
“Oh. So…umm… what do you think?”
“I think it’s great. I know you, I know where you live, and know where I can find you. So later on when you broke my sister’s heart, I could find you and beat the crap out of you.” Ray said.
“Is that a threat?” Ron asked, a little bit afraid.
“No, it’s a promise.” Ray answered matter-of-factly.
Ron smiled and said. “Well, you don’t have to worry about it. I won’t break her heart. Thanks for your support.”
Ron patted Ray on the shoulder and walked out of the room.
“You might as well get on your brother-in-law’s good side now. I like cologne.” Ray said before Ron could exit his room.
He then smiled and thought to himself. ‘That chicken finally decided to hike it up a notch.’
Ray’s thought was interrupted by the androgynous voice that says “You’ve got mail” from his computer.
Ray opened his mailbox to find an e-mail from his internet buddy, LittlePrincess.
Dear Prince-of-Darkness,
Hey you, how have you been? As for me I could have not been any better. I am currently on vacation in Hong Kong. Everything is going great; I’m spending my vacation with my friend at her house. We’re having a blast together. However, I also met my sole enemy, but more about that later. I remember you told me that you live in Hong Kong right? What do you say we’d meet? I’ve wanted to chat with you but you haven’t been online lately, so I’ve decided to write to you. Please reply soon. I’m going to stay in Hong Kong for 3 months. Let’s spend some time together.
Your buddy,
LittlePrincess.
Ray smiled as he replies his friend’s e-mail.
Dear my LittlePrincess,
I’m so happy to hear that you are in town. You’ve met your sole enemy? How weird is that! I have met mine too. She’s is my sister’s friend. Annoying little girl, but more on that witch later. So how you like Hong Kong so far? I think we should meet also. Just tell me where and I’ll be there okay? Take care.
You friend,
Prince-of-Darkness.
