Chapter 7
Walking side by side with Tavia, Ron felt a sense of comfort and familiarity. As for Tavia, being next to Ron feels so safe and protected. They walked in silence but their souls are secretly rejoicing.
“I…” they both spoke at once.
“You go first,” Ron said after they were done laughing at themselves.
“Umm… I want to go get some ice cream,” Tavia said.
“Hihi…is that all?”
Tavia nodded.
“Let’s go then,” Ron said grabbing Tavia by the hand. Tavia was little surprised by Ron’s behavior, but smiled because she liked it.
After they bought their ice cream, the two of them once again walked in silence. There are thousands of words to be said but somehow, they couldn’t express any of them.
‘I should tell her now,’ Ron told himself.
‘I wonder what he is thinking,’ Tavia thought to herself.
They then took a sneak peek at each other’s face but were caught by each other’s gaze.
“Umm…” Tavia began trying to escape Ron’s gaze.
“Wait, you have something on your face,” Ron said as he was lifting his hand up to clean it from her face.
“It’s…it’s okay. I got it.” Using her free hand, Tavia was trying to wipe something from her face. But she just couldn’t get it. Finally Ron took is other hand and stopped Tavia’s hand from wiping her face, and used his hand to wipe it away for her.
“It’s okay. I got it.” Ron said as he was looking into Tavia’s eyes. Tavia also looked up and their eyes met. The world seemed to stop moving all at once, and nothing else in this world existed but them. They gazed into each other’s eyes, and were lost in their love for one another. Ron then lowered his head and placed a kiss on Tavia’s lips. Lifting his lips from hers, Ron began to caress Tavia’s face and smiled as he said. “Do you know how long I have waited for that kiss?”
Tavia smiled and placed her head on his chest. They held each other tight while walking home together.
“What are we going to tell my brother?” Tavia asked as they were approaching the house.
“You don’t have to say anything, I’ll do all the talking,” Ron said. “I’m sure he’ll understand.”
Tavia nodded in agreement to Ron’s comment.
As soon as they opened the door, they immediately saw Ray sitting on the sofa with his back to them, with his arms crossed looking pissed.
Ron and Tavia gave each other a fearful look. Then Ron just shook his head indicating that he’s not going to be the one telling Raymond about them. Tavia nodded her head and pointed upstairs. They then tried to sneak across Raymond without him noticing. As they were approaching the staircase Ray suddenly raised his voice.
“Where do you two think you are going?”
Ron and Tavia looked at each other, and Ron mouthed “So close!” to Tavia.
“Come over and sit down,” Ray lowered his tone.
Ron and Tavia didn’t have a choice but to follow his order.
“Stop hiding upstairs, you can come down too.”
Everyone turned to look at the staircase to see Qian slowly walking downstairs.
“Hey! How did you know I was listening to you guys?”
“I could smell a rat when there’s one around.”
“Jerk!” Qian whispered and flashed him an evil look.
Ray waited until Qian sat down then turned to Ron and Tavia and said.
“So, you guys didn’t tell me. Tavia, you said that you needed to go get some stuff from the convenience store, right? And Ron you said you were going to go to protect her, right?”
Tavia and Ron nodded.
“Well, that was about…umm…I don’t know…2 hours ago! So my question is that, what exactly did you guys do and where did you go? Did you get lost?”
“Umm…I…she…we…” Ron stuttered.
“What? You…her…you guys…what?” Ray questioned.
Ron took a deep breath and grabbed Tavia’s hand, then looked at Ray and smiled.
Ray’s face expression became confused as he shrugged his shoulders and asked Ron.
“What are you smiling at? Did I not catch something that was funny?”
“Dude! Cut it out man,” Ron pleaded.
“Cut what out? And let go of my sister’s hand. Trying to take advantage of the little girl!”
“RAY! I’m not a little girl anymore,” Tavia exclaimed.
“Well in my eyes you are,” Ray then turned to Ron and said. “Well, are you telling me that you guys are dating?”
“Um humm,” Ron nodded, sounded a little intimidated.
Ray was trying his best not to laugh, and with the most serious look on his face he continued.
“Well then, I have no other choice but to…”
Everyone was anticipated to see what he was going to say next. It was so intense that you could hear the cricket outside.
“…accept.” Ray finished his sentence and smiled.
“Yay!” Qian yelled and clapped her hands.
Ron and Tavia looked at each other and smiled. Ray walked up to Ron and put out his hand waiting for Ron to shake it. The boys shook hand; Ray tightened his grip as he whispered into Ron’s ear.
“You better watch your back if you ever break her heart. Understand?”
“Yes sir!” Ron whispered back.
That night, the house was filled with people talking and laughing happily. Even Ray and Qian put their differences aside to celebrate the new love birds, Ron and Tavia
