{The Wedding Day}

Ron and Myolie were married in a beautiful grand hotel near one of the coastal of Hong Kong. Everyone complimented in low whispers how perfectly the couple fitted each other as Myolie walked up the aisle. She was a beautiful bride and Ron couldn’t look more perfected in his white tailor tuxedo.

A couple of seats down from the front row, Qian sat near the edge of the walkway bench. She has been starring at the couple thru the entirety of the ceremony with a mix emotion of sadness and admiration. Once or twice she caught Ron looking her way, but she quickly diverted her attention elsewhere. Qian knew she had to find something else to focus on. So for the latter part of the ceremony, Qian decided to focus her attention to Ray, who was standing next to Ron as his best man. As much as she hated to admit, Ray did look dashingly handsome in his black tuxedo. It was just ashamed that behind that attractive face, was a heart-breaker-in-disguise. How two best friends could be so different in personality and in taste, Qian will never know as she wondered.

If anyone had a 6th sense, it was Ray. Without looking sideway, he knew that a pair of eyes had been starring across the room at him throughout the later part of the ceremony. If he looked sideway now, he would know whose eyes they belong to.

Qian was quite embarrassed when Ray turned and caught her watching him. She quickly diverted her eyes and looked elsewhere. Thankfully, the ceremony was completed. After sharing an intimate kiss, the newly wed couple started to walk back down the aisle.

It’s not every day that a girl gets to see the person she loved marry someone else. It’s not every day that a man could love two different persons at one time.

Myolie, of course, had not been oblivious to all that had happened and surrounded her. Her suspicion of Ron’s diversion only increased more during the dance with her new husband.

“Ron, do you love me?” Myolie finally asked she and Ron danced through their first song together.

“That’s a silly question, Myolie. Of course I love you. Why would I marry you if I didn’t?” Ron replied.

“It must just be my woman’s intuition. Half-the-time during our ceremony, I felt as if you were looking elsewhere.”

Ron could see some doubts and sadness in Myolie’s lovable eyes. He had never seen this other melancholy side of Myolie before. Ron knew he needed to reassure her and himself, that their marriage was the right choice. Myolie was his wife now, and he had promised to love, to hold, and to cherish her till death do them part.

“Myolie, I married you because I love you. We made our vows already, and I will keep my promises to you.” Every word, Ron had spoken truthfully from his heart.

So Myolie was satisfied with his promise as they both danced till the very end of their first song together.

Some say wine is the best remedy for a broken heart, and Qian was readily to take on that suggestion tonight. In the mist of all the happiness and laughter that surrounded in the air, Qian allowed herself to be free as she mingled and accepted toast after toast by people sitting at her table. She knew none of them of course, but being that they were such an enthusiastic crowd, Qian joined in the fun and let herself be loosen.

Coincidentally, Ray was sitting only just a couple of seats away from Qian’s table. He too, was having fun flirting casually with the bridesmaids. It seems that he was the hot item at the wedding, as every single lady even those not seated at the table came over during one time or another at the reception party to offer a few invitations to him. Of course, Ray begin Ray, neither refused or accepted their invitations as it was still too early in the night. He was engaged in a light conversation with the girl next to him, when a loud burst of laughers from the next table interrupted and caught his attention. He glanced over and saw Qian laughing and talking actively. And to top it off -- she was actually telling jokes to them and they were actually laughing!

Ray wasn’t the only one who noticed this “actively engaging” Qian. From the front of the room where the bride and groom were sitting, Ron could see and hear Qian’s laughter too.

“I think Qian had too many drinks, I’m gonna go check to see if she’s OK, Myolie.”

With Myolie’s understanding approval, Ron stood up and walked towards Qian’s table.

“More More More!!” yelled a crowd.

“To…To…I wish you all….you all…to be very…..happy!” Qian stuttered as she gave another toast before gulping down the rest of the glass of wine.

“I think you’ve had enough, Qian.” Ron said as he tried to hold keeping her in balance.

Qian looked over her shoulder and giggled, “Ron…{hic up}…I’m so happy for you…{hic up}…”

Ron looked across the table and spotted Ray, who had been observing the entire scene. To Ron’s annoyance, Ray seem to think it was funny to see Qian making a fool out of herself.

“Ray, do me a favor would you?” Ron asked. “Take Qian and get her a room for the night. I think she’s had too much to drink.”

Being that it was Ron’s night after all, Ray obediently adhered to Ron’s request. In a single swoop, Ray lifted Qian off her feet dropping one of her shoes on the floor and carried her away.

“So the slayer has finally chosen his captive for the night!!” Some one yelled as they exited the reception hallway.

“Bye bye…bye bye…” Qian waved to the guests. Then she looked up poked into his cheek.

“And who are you?” she asked.

Ray ignored her as he asked the front lobbyist for a room.

“Where are we going?? I don’t want leave…I need another drink…” Qian cried and tried to wiggle out of Ray’s arms.

After exiting the elevator at the 10th floor, Qian felt nauseated from the elevator ride.

“Put me down…I don’t feel so well” Qian demanded as they reached inside the room. Again, Ray ignored her demand.

”I said…put me……”

Before Ray could see what was coming, Qian threw up all over him.

“What the heck?” Ray exclaimed and let go of his hands unintentionally, making Qian fall flat onto the floor.

“Owww!!” Qian cried. Although she was only half conscious, she could still feel the pain of being dropped on the buttock. Still unaware of her surrounding and what had just happened, Qian tried to lift herself up but only to fall back on the floor.

At any other time, Ray would have been quite put-off at the current situation. But seeing that Qian was too drunk to have done it intentionally, Ray helped her up from the floor and guided her to the bed. Then he went inside the bathroom and washed off. After getting rid of his outside coat and vest, which were massively covered with Qian’s puke, Ray dipped a warm towel into the sink and went back into the room.

He then placed the warm towel onto Qian’s face and wiped her mouth clean. She was still messy even after Ray wiped off the puke off of her clothes.

Qian’s eyes opened slowly as she felt someone unbuttoning her blouse. She wanted to lift her hand and stopped the person but soon she fell back into darkness. Sometime later, she felt someone lifting her upward to sit and poured warm water into her mouth. With great thirst, Qian drank it without hesitation. Half-unconscious, Qian tried hard to look at the person. She didn’t recognize him from the back. All she saw was a man with white shirt on and black pants. He was very tall.

“Can I get some more water?” Qian murmured weakly.

Ray gave her another glass of water and she drank it with great thirst. After tucking her back into bed, Ray turned off the light and turned to leave.

“Please don’t leave…” Qian murmured and grabbed his hand.

Ray hesitated for a moment before sitting back onto the bed, “Qian. You have no idea what you’re saying, do you?”

In darkness, Qian could only hear his voice. She was in half-illusion and half-awake state. The illusional part: she did not know who this man was. The awaken part: she knew what she was asking. She didn’t want to be alone tonight. She wanted to be loved.

“Please stay with me…” Qian pleaded again as she sat up and wrapped her arms around his neck.

If Ray had thought it was hard to stay pure minded moments ago when he was undressing her in order to clean her up, it was ten times harder now to say “No” with her arms wrapped around his neck.

And so Ray complied to Qian’s request and stayed with her for the rest of the night.

After they finished making love, Qian whispered next to his ears before falling back into a deep sleep --

“I love you, Ron.”
