Having been in the hospital for over a week, Qian was glad to finally be released today. Just as she was packing her clothes to checkout, Ron came into her room.
"Ron, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be a work?" Qian asked when she saw him walking into her room.
"I know you're being released today, so I stopped by and see if you needed a ride home." Ron replied. He too, like Ray, looked like he had not had a peaceful sleep in days. Qian was sad to see Ron looking this way.
"I already have a ride; Ray's coming to pick me up after he gets out of work today." Qian lied. Ray had not said anything to her at all. She just did not want for Ron to be concerned with her anymore. From the looks of Ron's face after hearing her response, she knew he was disappointed. Qian knew he, too, cared for her, but she also knew that she could not accept his love or caring anymore. She must be strong and determine with her decision for everyone's sake, which was why she must reject him and let him know that he should let go of his love for her.
"What are you and Ray going to do about the baby?" Ron finally asked one of the questions that have been on his mind for days.
Knowing that Ron needed to understand fully of hers and Ray's current situation and agreement, Qian told Ron everything that she and Ray had discussed about earlier.
Ron couldn't help but felt useless after hearing what Qian had to say. He thought she should have deserved a happier life, a more appropriate one than what she was willing to settle with Ray. Although Ray was his best friend, Ron knew Ray was unable of loving Qian the way she deserved to be love.
After a few silent moments, Ron held onto Qian's hands and said, "I'm sorry for the ways things workout, Qian. If had a chance, I would have like for things to be different between us. It's ironic how life is. All of a sudden you're having Ray's baby and now you and Ray are thrown into this life together that you both did not want in the first place. All three of us are not happy with our lives. We are all in a position we cannot control. Qian…you know I do love you too…and it breaks my heart to see you going the same path as Michelle. I'm so sorry I found out too late...if I had known sooner...I'd…"
"Shhhh", Qian released her hand from Ron's hold and placed it on his lips to stop him from saying anything further. "Don't say it, Ron. Please don't bring this up again. I don't want you or me to hurt Myolie. At least out of all of us, Myolie could have the happiness she too deserves. She loves you very much, Ron. Please don't disappoint her."
"I know, I won't." Ron sadly replied.
Neither Ron nor Qian knew that it was not just three people who were not happy with their lives, but four -- as Myolie was standing just outside the hospital room overhearing their entire conversation. Like Ron, she too wanted to come by and visit Qian before she was released from the hospital. But when she saw Ron entered the room first, Myolie had stayed back and stood outside. Her heart was broken into pieces when she heard those words spoken by Ron. So now she finally knew everything she had been suspicious of between them. She tried to keep her tears from falling as she stood outside the room, but then she could not longer keep herself from crying out loud, and quickly left the scene. Myolie did not go home as expected, but she took a ferry boat out to the island. She wanted to get far away from her current reality as possible. Myolie had known this day would come when Qian and Ron would find their way back to each other's side. From the first moment Myolie met them, she knew that they both shared a special bond together, but being a fool that she was, Myolie could not help but fell in love with Ron too. Selfishly, she was thankful when Qian did not come with them to the trip to Australia that week - because it was that time frame of being alone with Ron and without Qian at his side that she was able to win Ron's heart, or so she thought.
Myolie wasn't upset that she had 'lost' Ron to Qian. A person can't lose something that isn't theirs to begin with. Myolie finally understood this concept and she knew what she must do. Time is all she needed now to put her plan into action.
---------------
Shortly after Ron left the hospital, Ray came just in time as Qian was about to enter a taxi cab.
"Qian!" Ray hollered out as he walked up to the cab.
She was surprised to see him again so soon.
"What are you doing taking a cab?" Ray asked as soon as he reached her.
"How else am I gonna get home?" Qian replied with puzzlingly look.
"I thought you knew I'd come pick you up." Ray stated.
From the looks of Qian's face, Ray knew she really did not know nor expected him to come. He already knew he was going to be having a tough time trying to convince her to keep her side of their agreement.
Ray rolled his eyes and shook his head, "Never mind. Don't answer." Then he took the luggage from Qian's hand and directed her to his car, "Come on. Let's go."
Qian followed his lead and said, "I could have taken a cab, you know. It's not too far from here."
"I know, you don't need me to come..blah blah blah. Stop being too polite with me would you?" Ray said as he popped up his trunk and helped her into the passenger seat.
"Well, how would you rather I be? Would you rather I go back and call you a pervert?" Qian said with smiling tease.
Ray was beginning to think, Qian has a lot more sense of humor and sarcasms in her then he had first imagined.
"Don't worry, this pervert doesn't make a habit of hitting on 2 months pregnant ladies." Ray replied with a wink.
Qian was glad to see this not-so-serious side of Ray coming back. She felt much more at ease knowing that they both have no personal or emotional feelings for each other, which is one-less problem for her worry about. She pray that Ron will give up on them and go back to Myolie before it was too late. As for herself, she was already content and happy to know she will be having a new person to love in a few more months.
