Chapter 2

"Mich, I'm home. Where are you?"

"I'm in here, Qian" Michelle said in a low voice from inside her room.

Qian whispered lowly as she entered the room, "Hey there you are, how's my little guy doing?"

Michelle looked down at the boy, who was quietly asleep in her arms, then smiled. "His fever has just calm and now he's sleeping joyfully." Michelle slowly pulled up the blanket to cover the boy and both girls stepped out of the room quietly.

"You're home early. Did everything go alright, Qian?"

Qian looked at Michelle apologetically and replied, "I'm sorry Michelle. I just couldn't do it. I tried, I really did."

Michelle smiled sweetly when walked up to Qian and gave her a warm hug, "It's OK Qian. It's me who should be sorry. I'm sorry for asking you to fill in for me. I know it's your not style. I'll just go back to Madame Laurel tomorrow and tell her I can come back to work now that Michael is fully recovered."

"Um...that's another thing I wanted to say I was sorry about. I don't think you can have your old job back." Seeing Michelle's worried face, Qian continued and said "But don't worry, you just take a break at home and stay with Michael for the time being. I can cover the bills just fine."

Michelle looks at Qian and she couldn't help but start to cry. "No, I can't ask this from you. You've already done so much for me and Michael. I can't let you pay for everything. I'm sorry..I'm just such a mess right now."

"Mich, please don't cry. Everything will be alright. I promise."

"No it's not. Now I have no job, no money and I feel like such a luggage to you."

"Mich, what did we say back at St. Catherine's Church Orphan Home? We'll be friends and sisters forever. OK? So don't fuss about the money issue anymore."

"I should have listened to you...I should have never been fooled by that bastard..."

"Mich, let's not bring up the past. We're one happy family now right? There's me, you, and Michael. We'll make it, I promise you."

Michelle sobs softly on Qian's slim shoulders. Michelle knew she owed everything she had to Qian. They have been like friends since they met at the orphanage, and since then they have been like real sisters. If only she had listen to Qian's advice earlier she would not have been foolish enough to run off with that bastard then get pregnant. There's no doubt that Michael was the best thing that ever came her way because she loves him adoringly, but she just couldn't imagine the thought of raising him alone without a proper father.

"Come on cheer up. I have good news though do you want to hear?" Qian asked.

"What is it?" Michelle asked as she wiped her tears away.

"A publishing company has finally accepted my manual scripts. I have an interview with them on Monday. If they like it, they will publish it for me and I could ask for an advance check."

"Was that the book you've been writing the last couple of months?"

Qian nodded. "Yeah, I'm happy that my hard work is finally being recognized."

Michelle smiled happily as she hugs Qian again, "I'm truly happy for you Qian. You were always the bright and creative one."

"You mean, I'm bookworm? How do you think I get these goggles?" Qian replied teasingly as she pointed to her eye glasses.

"Well, whatever you are. I think you're the best and you can do whatever you want, Qian. I believe in you."

"Thanks Mich. OK, I'm gonna go shower and proof lead my last few chapters before I submit them on Monday. Tomorrow we can take Michael to the park since he's feeling better now."

"Yes, I think Michael will like that....Hey, don't stay up too late working."

"I won't, night Mich."

On a bright, sunny Saturday morning, a couple walked hand in hand together browsing thru the famous Fashion Square Streets.

"Ron, what do you think of this color? Won't they be perfect for our new bed setting?" Myolie asked as she flashed him a gleeful, bright smile.

"As long as you like them, I think they're perfect." replied Ron.

"Ron! You've been saying that at every single thing we've picked out today!" Myolie gave a pout, released his arms and walked towards another counter by herself.

Ron gave a sigh knowing that Myolie was upset with him again. They have spent the entire Saturday morning going shopping for their new house decors and he had been gladly tagging along with her, but that didn't seem to be enough with Myolie. He couldn't help that he had no fashion taste or interesting in picking out designs. If she had asked him about anything other than designs he would have gladly offer an opinion, but such was not the case.

"Myolie, I'm sorry. You know I have poor taste in picking out things. I meant what I said, anything you want is fine with me."

Myolie continued to ignore Ron's comment and proceed to focus her attention on the items in the countertop.

"You can't ignore me forever. We're getting married in a month."

Myolie finally looked up at him, "Well, with the pace we're going at selecting items. Maybe there'd be no wedding." Then she walked away from him and exited the store. Ron shook his head then offered an apology to the store attendant before exiting the store as well and followed closely behind her.

Myolie knew that Ron was just behind her, even if he wasn't speaking. After walking an entire block, Ron still did not walk next to her nor had he spoken a word to her. Angrily she stopped and turned around.

"You're so stubborn!" Myolie yelled.

"So you finally talk. I know you can't stay at me for long, Myolie." Ron smiled and walked up next to Myolie.

"I haven't the time to stay mad at you." Myolied replied, still pretending to be mad at him.

"I don't want you to stay mad at me. When you're angry you don't look too pretty and you'll get wrinkles on your face before you get old." Ron teased and pinched her cheeks.

Myolie couldn't help but laughed at his tease. She knew she couldn't stay mad at Ron for any long duration. As a matter of fact, that was the reason she fell in love with him in the first place. Ron was different from other guys who tried to woo her, most of whom only cared about her wealthy background. Ron was honest, loyal and faithful. The best thing about him was he never loose his temper and always let Myolie have it her way. Sure he was also stubborn at time, but that’s what Myolie loved most about him. As Ron held Myolie’s hands again and they both continued to walk to the next store on the streets, Myolie looked up at Ron and smiled brightly.

“From that smile, I guess you have forgiven me?” asked Ron.

“Only because I’m so in love with you, Ron.” Myolie replied happily thinking she’s the luckiest woman in the world. “Oh, by the way I have finished sending out all the invitations already.”

”What would I do without you?” Ron commented.

[Setting : Far on the high top of one of HK's tallest building]

"96.97.98.99..and 100." Ray exhaled as he finished his last set of bench press.
It was his daily routine to run 2 miles and do several sets of bench press before he went to work every morning. After a short rest, Ray got up and went to take a shower. Just as he was about to go into the shower, his home phone rang.

"Hello."
"Ray, it's Mommy."
"Hi Mom. How's the trip in France?"
"Oh I'm having a wonderful time darling."
"Good. When are you coming back to HK?"
"I don't know darling, Adam and I are just having too much fun here. We might stay longer than we had anticipated."
"Oh OK. Listen I gotta go take a shower and get to work. I'll call you back another time."

Ray hanged up before his Mom got to say goodbye. He turned on the cold shower and let the springing water hit his sweaty skin. Taking a cold shower every morning was one of his ways to banish his teenage year's memories. He was 12 at the time when his Dad broke the news to him -- his Mom was leaving them. It seemed she had complained that his Dad was working too many hours at work and not enough time for her. She wanted someone who could love and nurture her and his Dad was no longer that man. After 15 years of marriage, she just called it quit without any thought for her son or her ex-husband. That bitter moment will always be a scar for Ray. Like many couples of their generation, his parents met during their school years and fell in love. Soon they got married and two years later they had him. But it seemed that love didn't last long for them. Ray does not hate his Mom now as much as he did when he was younger. On his Dad's deathbed, three years ago, while Ray was still in his last year of studies, he'd asked Ray not to blame his Mom for what she did. Ray knew it broke his Dad's heart when his Mom left them, but his Dad never stopped loving her. And so, on his last wish before he died of cancer, Ray promised to his Dad that he’d forgive his Mom. Though Ray had forgiven her, he had never really forgotten the lesson he had learned – Only Fools Fall In Love.

Turning off the cold shower, Ray stepped out and wrapped a white towel around his waist. He re-entered his bedroom and started picking out his suit for work. After selecting a dark navy suit and a stripe tie, Ray picked up his dirty laundry for today's drop-off at the dry-cleaner. As he bagged up his dirty clothes, a pair of pink bunny ears fell out of the pocket and dropped on the floor.

"How did this get here?" Ray asked himself and went to pick it off the floor. Then he quickly remember it belonged to the girl at the Pink Bunny Bar from Friday night. He had forgotten that he had put her bunny ears in his suit jacket. Ray smiled to himself as the memory of that night quickly came back to him. Ray decided to leave the bunny ears on his cabinet table, picked up his suitcase and dirty laundry bag then left his penthouse for work.

========AUTHOR'S NOTE===============

This chapter is a bit boring...lol...but it need to be here to give you some characters' background, current situation, and forecast of what's lying ahead.

For those who are Ron-Myolie Fans, just want to remind you they are NOT the primaries in this fanfic, I don't want to mislead you. However their love story does play an important factor for Ray+Qian's relationship (as some of you might have already guessed).
