“Oh my gosh, did you see the look on Lynda’s face when she walked out of Mr.Lam’s office a moment ago?” Girl 1.
“Yes!! I did! She looked like she was about to kill someone. But of course, I knew she was pretending not to be upset when she walked out with her face up in the air.” Girl 2.
“Well, I never like the looks of her anyway. Sure, she’s beautiful but wayyyy too snobby.” Girl 1.
“Are you sure about that? Maybe you just don’t like her coz you got a crush on Mr. Lam?” Girl 2.
“Oh be quiet. I mean, just look at him, who wouldn’t have the hots for him.” Girl 1.
The girls laugh agreeably, both unaware that Qian was within hearing distance and overheard their entire gossiping conversation.
“Well, he’s good to look at but I wouldn’t spend time with wishful thinking about him like you do. I just read his interview with NEXT magazine where he says he enjoys his bachelor lifestyle and has no plan to marry ever…by the way...have you seen the cover of it?? He was absolutely burning the cover of that issue. And in big bold letter it says ‘TOP 50 EXECUTIVES BACHELOR’” Girl 2.
“Give me that magazine, let me read his interview.” Girl 1 said as she flipped thru the NEXT magazine issue and scanned the article quickly. “Well, no matter what. I still think he’s HOT and I wouldn’t mind having him for a boyfriend.”
”Keep dreaming girl.”

“Uh, excuse me, Miss? Are you going down?” Someone inside the elevator asked.
“Oh yes, sorry. Yes I’m going down. Thank You.” Qian replied and quickly walked into the elevator.
Qian thought, no wonder he did not interview her today it was because he was ‘busy’ breaking up with Lynda. Men like him were definitely not of her style. But nonetheless, he was none of her business. Just as long as she didn’t have to deal with him that would be fine with her.
“Qian! How did it go? Did they say yes??? Tell me!!!” Michelle anxiously asked as soon as she saw Qian stepped out of the elevator doors.
From the looks at Qian’s face, Michelle already knew the answer.
“Oh my gosh!!! I knew it!! I knew they would like it!!” Michelle smiled happily.
“So, should we go out to lunch now to celebrate?” Qian suggested.
“I have already thought of that, and guess who’ll be joining us?”
“Hm? Who?” Qian asked.
Michelle didn’t need to answer because Ron was already walking towards them.
“You invited Ron? How? How did you two meet each other?” Qian asked.
“Michael and I just bumped into him upstairs.”
Qian wasn’t expecting to see Ron again so soon. She wished they didn’t just keep seeing each other like this since it was making it too difficult for her. But Qian gave a forceful smile when Ron came up to greet them.
“You girls ready to go?” Ron asked.
“Can we go to Mickey D?” Michael asked as he tugged onto Michelle’s skirt.
“Uh, maybe another time, Michael. I’m sure Ron doesn’t like to eat at Mickey D for lunch.” Michelle replied.
“But Momie, I want Mickey D!!” Michael cried.
“Michael, what did I say about kid behaving badly and not listening to their Mommy?” Qian asked.
Michael made a sullen face as he hid behind Michelle’s dress.
“He’s only afraid of you, Qian.” Michelle stated.
“It’s OK. I don’t mind Mickey D.” Ron intercepted. “I haven’t been to one since I was a teenager. There’s one down the street. We can walk there.”
Michael was happy again as he ran up to Ron and grabbed hold of his hand and they started walking towards the exit.
Michelle and Qian followed the two “men” to Mickey D.
As soon as they entered the fast-food restaurant, Michael rushed towards the playground.
“Michael, stop!! Stop running!!” Michelle yelled loudly and followed Michael into the playground, leaving Ron and Qian to themselves.
After ordering their food, Ron and Qian found a table near the playground and started to eat their lunch. Their conversations focused primarily on Qian’s book and her previous interview earlier in the day where Ron asked the questions and Qian merely answered him with short replies. Michelle and Michael finally joined them again 15 minutes later.
“Momie, I don’t wanta eat. I want to go on playground again!” Michael demanded.
Normally, Qian would have not have yielded to Michael’s demand, but since she was looking for an excuse to get away from Ron, this was a good opportunity. “Michelle, here eat your lunch. Let me watch Michael for you.”
Michelle shook her head and smiled secretly after Qian took Michael to the playground, guessing that Qian was probably shy around Ron. “That Qian. Always running away from her heart. When is she gonna ever have enough courage to speak up. Well, if she isn’t gonna do it – then I will because I can’t let this chance slip away for Qian again.”
“So Ron, you and Qian bumped into each other last week? It is strange that Qian never mentioned that to me.” Michelle asked.
“Why is it strange? Maybe she forgot to?” Ron replied.
“Oh no…Qian never forgets…especially about things which are important to her.” Michelle hinted.
Ron gave Michelle a confused look as he gave another bite into his sandwich.
After 5 minutes of trying to give hints to Ron about Qian liking him, Michelle got fed up and was beginning to get upset that the big-doofus-Ron didn’t seem to understand what she was trying to say.
“Ron, are you really that stupid?” Michelle finally stated.
Ron was appalled and startled at Michelle’s rude comment, “Excuse me?”
“How could you not know that Qian has been in love with you all this time?” There -- Michelle finally said it out loud. Surely, this stiff-neck would comprehend exactly what she meant.
Ron almost choked on his last bite on the sandwich when he heard Michelle’s last sentence.
”What? What did you say?” Ron asked and put down his sandwich.
“I said, that you must be a very stupid person for not knowing that Qian has been in love with YOU, RON NG ever since she met you…and I know she still does even though she doesn’t say it.” Michelle repeated with an annoyance in her voice.
Ron felt a sudden awkwardness sitting in front of Michelle’s scrutiny as he silently think to himself. He must really be an idiot if he never guessed that Qian had like him all this time. Initially, he just assumed Qian’s feelings were just friendship-sibling affections when he noticed how she always followed him everywhere he went. He never really gave it any thought or consideration that Qian was in love with him. If what Michelle said was true, then that explained why she had built a wall between them after he started dating Myolie. Ron sat starring at his left over sandwich silently not knowing what to do or say to Michelle. One thing he knew though ,was that he felt guilty for having been so blindly unaware of Qian’s affection for him. Flashes of memory of Qian’s smiles, the way she looked at him, the way her eyes seeming to want to speak to him but never could say in words – all that -- he finally understood at last.
Finally, Michelle spoke again, “You really didn’t know. Did you, Ron?”
Ron only shook his head, unable to meet Michelle’s eyes.
Michelle gave a sigh, “Maybe it should not have come from me. But knowing Qian and what a stubborn fool she is. I had to tell you. Or else you’d never know. And that would have been very unfair for Qian.”
“No, I don’t blame you for telling me this. Michelle. I…I am just in shock that I didn’t realize this sooner.” Ron replied.
“It’s not too late, is it?” Michelle asked with great concern in her voice.
Then Ron finally looked up and met Michelle’s questioning eyes, “I’m getting married in 2 weeks.”
Michelle was astonished and asked with great distress, “Does Qian know?”
Ron nodded, “Myolie and I are getting married in 2 weeks. And we have invited Qian too.”
Michelle tried to control her disappointment, anger and sadness. Ron knew the reason for her sudden silent. They both turned to look at Qian, who was still at the playground with Michael, and then they looked back at each other – without saying much -- both knew and understood too well of Qian’s hidden pain.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were getting married. I would have…I would have never told you if I had known.” Michelle said regretfully.
“No, if there’s anyone to blame. It should be me.” Ron simply replied.
