Young Saeng felt powerless when the nurses closed the door. He didn’t find enough strength to get up and walk home. Instead, he collapsed on the nearby sofa and cried for hours.

Even when he got up, he was still weak. He was just as before he met Abby – with no confidence, careless. He tried so much to brush the thought of Abby out of his mind, but it would just echo back. He thought he heard her voice calling his name.

“Just stop it… Stop it, someone wake me up, I hate this nightmare!” he shouted in the streets. Everyone was looking at him like at a psycho – no wonder. He just talked to himself.

As weak, both physically and mentally, as he was, he managed to direct his steps towards the building where Abby used to work with him.

He easily stepped into the office. A strong fragrance hit him like a lightning. Even if the rain soaked him like crazy, he managed to hold back his tears for a while. Abby’s perfume was enough to set his soul on a bed of nails again, making him cry even more than before.

He looked at her office. As messy as always. The finished paperwork were along with the finished ones, her briefcase, her glasses, a hair scrunchie… A diary and a note?!

Seeing those, Young Saeng didn’t actually want to invade Abby’s privacy by reading her diary, but the note was including his name. It was obvious it was for him. He picked it up and read every word along with an utter amazement.

[I’m an angel, you’re a human. Do you think we can fall in love? I’m not allowed to, but what can I do? I could bet you don’t even like me. You’re such a dumass for not believing in angels, thanks heaps, Young Saeng! Also, who could ever like a human body animated by some clumsy angel wannabe, a body that has epilepsy crisis, huh? I totally doubt that and I hope you understand me. I can’t tell you how much I love you as a protected and how much as a human being. Neither you could tell me how much you love me as your daughter and how much as a girlfriend. But I watched you grow up, Young Saeng. Please bear with me, okay? Please stay alive if you don’t want to see me suffer. You know what happens when Angels cry, right? Please, Young Saeng... Please... I love you too much to suffer for your death. Stay alive and happy, I’ll be just there, next to you. I’ve always been. I will come again, sooner or later. Let’s hope sooner than later. Even though now, I’m just a spirit, my human flesh is still craving for your embrace. I need to feel the warmth of your body again, I want to. Is it too obvious, I suppose? I think it was since the day I bumped into you. Farewell.

I Love You. ]

Young Saeng felt his knees weaken as he fell again, sinking to the floor, with his back hitting the wall.

‘How… How can so little words say so many?’ he was just staring at Abby’s last note, written on a yellow Post-It.
‘You’re an angel?! Wh-… What’s… What’s going on in here?! Angels don’t exist!’ even though he saw Abby’s words, he still refused to believe in angels.
‘Watched me grow up… She-… she made me a dumass…’ he chuckled through tears. But it was only a craziness chuckle, someone in his right mind wouldn’t laugh in this situation.
‘Angel’s Cry, huh? That means the end of the World, as I know…’

He was right – the Angel’s Cry coincides with the Apocalypse. The angels would feel so sad for this world, they would pity it so much that they think it would be better for it to die, instead of suffering so much. If Abby and Young Saeng would have fallen in love and Abby left, they would have started the Angel’s Cry for both of them. They know how much and how purely they loved each other. For one, the loss of the other would be the end of the world. As Abby was an angel, she would just start the Angel’s Cry by herself and then the others would join.

Or that was his theory at that moment.

‘She’ll be by my side… She’s always been…’

“Stay alive and happy?! How can you imagine I can stay alive and happy when you aren’t here, Abby?!” Young Saeng shouted, looking up. Possibly, at the sky. The Heaven. Where he thought Abby was.

“Young Saeng… Young Saeng!”
“Not those voices again…” he slapped his forehead.
“Young Saeng, it’s me…”

His eyes widen in amazement.

“A-… Abby?!”
“Thank goodness, Young Saeng.”
“Is that really you?!”
“Of course it’s me, who can it be…”
“Ah… No… Must be some of those voices again… I need to go rest… Abby’s death made me suffer too much I think I’m becoming crazy…” he sighed and grabbed both the note and Abby’s diary, leaving the office.

On his way downstairs, he encountered his boss.

“My, my, Young Saeng. It’s been some time since I last -… What happened? Your eyes are sore…”
“You haven’t heard, have you?”
“Hear about what?”
”Abby.”
“What about her?”
“She died, boss.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll get you a new secretary.”
“You think any secretary can replace Abby so easily? Well, listen to me, then! Nobody in this world could ever replace her!”
“There’s no need to shout at me, Young Saeng! And watch your mouth!”
“Oh yes, there are so many reasons to shout at you.”
“Mister Heo! Behave yourself!”
“Oh really? Behave this: I QUIT.”
“Wh-wh-wh-… WHAT?!”
“Read my lips: I Q U I T.”
“But you can’t quit!”
“Yes I can. Nobody said I couldn’t. You money sucker…”

Young Saeng passed by his boss without the slightest effort. It wasn’t long until he reached home, his phone called.

“Hello?”
”Oh, is this Heo Young S-…”
”Yes, it’s me. Who is it?”
“Sorry to disturb you again, Lee Won Su.”
“Ah, yes. Why have you called me?”
“Miss Abigail Andres’ body… Can you come pick it up by tomorrow? For funerals…”
“Y-… Yeah, sure…”
“I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.”

‘Heh… He can talk about dead people with such ease… It seems like he never experienced having someone so close to you disappear from your sight… Forever…’

Still, Young Saeng’s mind remained with one unanswered question – who is Pete?
Thinking about her privacy and that she may have written about this “Pete”, Young Saeng rushed to her diary. It had a gold locket that restrained anyone from looking into it.

“Oh great, what am I going to do now…” Young Saeng sighed, feeling even more disappointed.

But as he touched the golden locket, it broke into millions of pieces, just like golden dust. He was too surprised to say or do anything, but his hands acted unwillingly, turning the gold-and-white cover. The first page was written in the Cyrillic alphabet, but he seemed like understanding everything.

“ Blessed be the One who gets to know the secrets beyond the Gates of Heaven. “ he read the quote aloud. “Is that some kind of inspirational quote?” he asked himself.

He turned around page by page. The thin, yellow-ish pages seemed to be pretty greasy – more like old. Antique. Abby’s handwriting was messy, just as her desk. You couldn’t get what she wrote. It was big, with round letters, not all were the same size. Some were too tall, some were too small. Some were just perfect.

“Dear Diary,

I know I’m starting really harsh. But Young Saeng is a dumass. He doesn’t believe in angels! Gah. What can I do to prove him we DO exist?! Gosh, he’s such a hardhead! I can’t just tell him “Like, you know… I’m an angel.”. He’ll think I some kind of psycho-maniac with this angel thing. Bah.

Also… There’s a slight little thing…

Today we went to eat ice cream again. Yay! Instead of the usual raspberry ice cream, he got a luxuriant rainbow ice cream for each of us. I don’t even know how I managed to finish that.

Side note: He hugged me! Gosh, his fragrance killed my senses… I love it!

Side not to side note: My heart almost pumped out of my chest. What the heck is happening?! I’m not allowed to love him! For St. Peter’s sake, I’m not even human! I mean… Well… Somehow…

But... Oh well, I have to keep on fighting for Young Saeng. He's the reason I'm here, after all... Right?"”

‘The reason why she’s here, you say…?’ he thought. ‘I’m the reason…? How?’

“I would call St. Peter, asking for a couple of advice. I mean, I assured him I won’t be developing any kind of feelings towards Young Saeng, but now they’re too strong for me to handle. Being immaterial, I can’t desire his body, but his love. I feel that this is the thing I need. Maybe, by his love, I’ll become material. Theoretically, impossible.

I’m afraid of the Angel’s Cry, diary. If St. Peter finds out that I like-… wait, no… I LOVE Young Saeng, and then I disappear, his soul will be totally shattered. I don’t want that to happen, I’m here to make him happy!”

‘What? She… She loved me… She really loved me…” Young Saeng felt his heart aching again. He even put his right hand over his left side of his chest. He started shedding tears again.

There were lots and lots of notes and side notes in the Cyrillic alphabet that Young Saeng’ couldn’t read. Random doodles of wings, flowers, hearts, stars and chibis of Young Saeng and Abby together were decorating the page. Looked just like the diary of a teenage girl feeling her first High School love.

But the thing that Young Saeng read with the most attention was the last diary entry. The page was stained with tears and a really bitter fragrance almost made him faint.

“He could have at least told me what was wrong!
Instead, he was just “Yeah, NOTHING!”
Then started shouting at me for no reason, like I’d be guilty for something.
I haven’t done anything wrong!
Gosh, isn’t he a hardhead.

Well, fine then. Since he doesn’t like me anymore, I think I finished my job here, on Earth. St. Peter is waiting for me at the Gates of Heaven now.
Beforehand, I’ll write a note to Young Saeng.

Farewell, Diary.

Andres.”

Young Saeng dropped the diary from his hands. His heart got shattered from top to bottom. If only they wouldn’t have argued. Pete…? Who was Pete…?

“Saint… Saint Peter…?”

Young Saeng fell to his knees and cried his heart out. Every piece remained of it.

‘It’s all my fault now! If we didn’t argue, she was alive and happy now!’
“No, Young Saeng. I wouldn’t.”
“Huh? Not the voices again!”
“It’s no voice, it’s really me.”
”Then show up! Please!”
“I can’t, Young Saeng. Because I, as the angel, was in the body when it died, now I’m not accepted into Heaven. I’m only a spirit right now. I… just look into the mirror.”

Young Saeng just obeyed. He crawled to the mirror and stared long into it. He could determine a slight feminine silhouette.

“Abby…” he reached to touch the mirror.

Abby put her hand on the mirror, over Young Saeng’s.

“I’m so sorry, Abby… I’m so sorry I couldn’t give my life for you!”

He felt so guilty for what he’s done that the only thing that he could do now was…

“You’re an angel you say…” he found the minimum of strength to walk towards the table. He grabbed a cutter. “Abby, just wait for me. I’ll be right there.” He looked up, at the sky.

“Young Saeng, DON’T!” she stretched her hand, trying to stop him. But it was already too late. Young Saeng felt dizzy and blacked out with a large smile on his face.
