Chapter 40

Unrequited Love

Thunder roared around her while the coolness of rain ran down her clothes and hair. She wrapped her arms around her petite body while people brushed against her in a hurry to get home as soon as possible. It was night and she had no idea where she was, she didn’t even want to know. One small part of her was actually thinking, maybe just maybe Hero will appear now because he always did when she was in trouble or when she was lost. Her eyes were swollen from crying, she could barely keep them opened. Her heart clenched which made it hard to even breathe. Why didn’t she ever realise his feelings towards her? What made it unbearable was the fact that he was still with her all this time when she disappointed him and hurt him again and again. Maybe, she thought, maybe if she opened her heart to him, she would’ve loved him. Now, when she had lost him, she realised how much she needed him. Maybe what she always wanted was beside her. Maybe the person she needed was Hero not Aaron.

“Hebe!” she heard Aaron’s voice and turned around. He was standing behind her, his clothes drenched with rain.

“Far out! Why did you run off like that? Did you know how much you scared me?” yelled Aaron, his eyes full of fury as he reached out to hold her but she stepped back, away from him. The fury disappeared from his eyes and hurt took over. He tried again but she once again stepped back.

“What’s wrong Hebe?”

“I’m sorry Aaron,” she replied.

“For running away? I’m not really that angry; I was just worried about you. You know how much I care about you, just don’t do it again,” Aaron smiled kindly at her which made her even more guilty for what she was about to say. She didn’t want to but it was only fair for all three of them. She had to be sure of her feelings; she didn’t want to make anymore wrong decisions.

“Aaron, listen carefully. I went to Hero’s dancing studio today; I met one of his friends. We never knew he danced but he had been dancing for a while but we never paid enough attention to realise that. I…I also read his diary and there were a lot of things about us. About our relationship and I finally realised that he always…he always had feelings for me but he kept it inside him and never showed any of it. That was because he knew I loved you but I’m not sure of it anymore.”

“What do you mean? Do you mean you don’t love me anymore?”

“Aaron, everything’s such a shock. I’m not sure of what I feel anymore. Maybe I love you but maybe I love Hero and its only fair for you to continue our relationship if I am certain of my own feelings. I’ve already made many wrong decisions in my life and I don’t want to make a mistake again. I’m sorry Aaron; I think it’s the best for us to make sure what we want before doing anything. You still have a huge career ahead of you and you can be much more than what you are now.”

“But I don’t want that Hebe. I just want to stay with you.”

“Would you really want to give up everything for me, for someone who isn’t sure if they love you or not? Aaron, before I’m sure of my feelings, I won’t be able to give you anything. I won’t be able to give any promises or anything that you deserve. Believe me, if we are meant to be together, nothing will be able to separate us.”

“But-”

“Leave me Aaron. Let go of the guilt you felt for what happened between us because of Gui Gui. Look inside yourself; don’t take care of me because you feel guilty. Do you really love me?”

Aaron stood still and looked into her eyes. Did he really love her? Were all these feelings just because of guilt?

Hebe smiled through her tears and said, “Good bye Aaron, take care,” before she turned around and walked off. He stood still and looked at her back while she strolled slowly away from him and he felt his heart clench.

“I love you…” he muttered softly and repeated louder so Hebe could hear. She stopped walking and stood still.

“I love you, I loved you from the first time I met you. From the time I left the book for you in the library. I’ve always loved you and I will love you. It doesn’t matter if you don’t return my feelings because love is still love even if it isn’t requited but I respect your decision. I will wait for you Hebe, until the day you admit you love me because you are everything to me.”

Hebe stood still in shock and turned around but he had already left. She looked around but couldn’t find him. He really did love her but did she love him? Was his love requited or unrequited love?

Oh dear me, I didn't realise until today how long I haven't been updating this story. My last update was acutally in June. Shame on me so I quickly typed this chapter up today. It's not very long but it's got what I wanted you guys to know for this chapter. Hope you enjoyed and please comment. I will type up the next chapter as soon as possible.
