Chapter 21

HanYoung's lost

“How could that present not be for me,” HanYoung sulked as she strode along the walkway with her hands crossed.

“Ice cream, ice cream, I want more than just ice cream!” HanYoung muttered louder.

Unbeknown to her, the sky was darkening as the sun was setting. The weather was getting colder while the street lamps all turned up. The lights in the shops also started to light up and heaters were turned on.

After a while, HanYoung started to feel cold and began to hug herself. She began to shiver while her teeth chattered. Her stomach growled. HanYoung looked around and was astonished to find herself in an unfamiliar place, one where cars were zooming past her on her left and one where shops were on the right.

“Omma… Appa…” she mumbled, looking left and desperately, hoping to find either YiJung or GaEul.

She started to become nervous when she saw no one familiar. All around her, people were walking forwards without a second glance at her as if she were invisible. Her tears started to flow freely. She was scared, scared that she would not see her parents again, scared that she would not see HyungWoo again, scared that she would not see JiHan again, scared that she would not she JunPyo, JanDi, WooBin JiHoo and her Haraboji Yoon again and scared that some bad guy would hurt her. As the sun set, the shadows of the buildings grew longer and more ‘menacing’.

Finally, HanYoung could bear it no longer and sat on the steps of the nearest shop and bawled out loud. She was crying like she never cried before and wailing for her parents. She wanted to go home. She wanted her family. She wanted her food and nice, clean bed. Her nose turned red as the mucus threatened to dirty her dress. Tears stained her pink cheeks and her eyes became red and puffy. She didn’t know what to do. She just wanted her parents. She was sorry she went of just like that. Now, she wanted to go back. But, how?

The glass door of the shop opened and warmth enveloped her as the hot air from the shop rushed out into the cold, dark winter night.

“Little girl, do you want to come in?” the shopkeeper asked.
