Chapter 26

I've found... WHO!?!

JiHan rode on and on, on and on, beside the sidewalks of Seoul and following them with no idea where he was going. All he knew was that he was going to find HanYoung. There were a few sleepy early birds wrapped in their thick coats on the sidewalk too. Some were old ladies enjoying the morning and a few were old men doing their morning exercise but most of them were middle aged ajusshi-s and ajumma-s who were on their way to work. The sun had just risen and there was strong cold wind blowing. Under such harsh cold conditions, a normal 5-year-old would have run to his mother to be embraced in her warm arms. Yet, JiHan was determined to find HanYoung, no matter the cost. A little cold was nothing to him, even when he couldn’t feel his fingers anymore. He wouldn’t go back until he had found HanYoung.

“HanYoung ah! Where did you go?” YiJung nearly choked on his words and fought to hold his tears back.

YiJung, WooBin and JiHoo had spent the whole morning, afternoon and even evening searching the whole of Seoul for traces of HanYoung but to no avail. WooBin put his hand on YiJung’s shoulder in an attempt to comfort his best friend. He himself felt horrible inside. He kept reproaching himself for losing HanYoung that day. This was all his fault. Even though YiJung had forgiven him, he himself had not. He was also frustrated and bewildered. This was the first time that his men had failed him. He had sent thousands of men to look for HanYoung and yet, none of them could find her. They could not find even find a single trace of her either. Where could HanYoung have gone? She was just a child without a driver’s license or any money. She couldn’t have gone very far.

“YiJung, let’s go. It’s dark,” JiHoo suggested suddenly.

YiJung flared up at those words.

“I can’t! My HanYoung has been gone for more than 24 hours! More than 24 hours! She must be cold and hungry! And tired! I can’t leave her alone like that! I can’t! I need to find her!” YiJung roared at JiHoo. He couldn’t understand how JiHoo, who was usually so sensitive and able to empathize with others, could be so nonchalant now. HanYoung was his precious daughter whom he had to find, why couldn’t he understand that?

JiHoo reeled in shock. What was wrong with YiJung? It was understandable that he was upset that he had lost his daughter, but what was that? JiHoo then composed himself again and thought about his words for a minute. He finally realized that he had chosen the wrong words. Those words made it sound like he was not interested in finding HanYoung at all and had just wanted to abort the misson. JiHoo apologized then attempted to reason with YiJung again.

“Come on YiJung, you’re too tired. Look, you’re about to fall ill already. You should go home. GaEul must be worried sick and waiting for news too. Even if you have no good news to tell her, you should still update her. You should go home now. WooBin and I will take over here. We’ll search for HanYoung and call you the first instance we find her. Go home, YiJung.” JiHoo persuaded.

“I… don’t… want… TO!” YiJung shouted back. However, at the last word, YiJung got weak-kneed and would have fallen to the ground had WooBin and JiHoo not caught him in time.

“LOOK AT YOU! Go home, YiJung!” JiHoo retorted.

“Yes, YiJung, go home,” WooBin agreed.

YiJung was feeling very vexed and unwilling, yet, given his condition, could he say no? No.

JiHoo and WooBin called YiJung’s chauffer to send the car over. They then helped YiJung into the passenger seat of his car.

“We’ll call you YiJung,” WooBin promised.

YiJung sank and leant back into his seat with a sigh. What was he going to tell GaEul? Then out of the corner of his eye, he saw something familiar.

“Wait, before we go, is that the porridge shop GaEul used to work at?” he asked WooBin and JiHoo.

WooBin and JiHoo both swiveled around at the same time to see the shop YiJung was pointing at. They were both surprised. Perhaps it was because they were all too preoccupied with fighting with each other that they didn’t even notice it.

“Yeh, it seems so,” JiHoo answered without taking his eyes off the signboard. It was also the place where JanDi had worked. Even though he had gotten over JanDi, that experience of loving someone so deeply in those months was something very much a part of him and was something which he could not let go easily.

“I want to buy some porridge for GaEul from there. And I want to buy it myself,” YiJung said.

JiHoo hesitated for a split second before agreeing.

“Can you walk by yourself?” WooBin asked as they helped YiJung out of his car once again.

“Yeh,” YiJung replied.

*Tling tling tling tling*

The wind chime at the restaurant’s door sounded as F3 came through the door.

A waitress came forward to bow and greet them. She was wearing the exact same apron GaEul had worn when she was working at the shop. She also had the exact same hairstyle. When the girl looked up, she was astounded. Before her were three of the nation’s richest and most prestigious people – the famous potter So YiJung, the Chairman of the nation’s biggest construction corporate, Song WooBin and the grandchild of their ex-president and also the best doctor and musician in all of South Korea, Yoon JiHoo. They were really all as perfect looking as they were on television and in the magazines. The poor girl simply stood there and stared at them with her mouth agape.

“May we see the master please?” YiJung asked softly.

“Y-yeh… Ma-MA-MASTER!” the waitress half-stammered and half-shouted.

“WHAT!?! I WAS BUSY! Oh, eat this all up, okay?” Someone roared then whispered from the kitchen. The restaurant-owner soon came out of the kitchen while tying his apron on at the same time.

“Omo. Prince!” Master exclaimed upon seeing YiJung.

“Princes!” He exclaimed again upon seeing JiHoo and WooBin.

YiJung gave the familiar man a small smile.

“Annyeong Haseyo, Master,” YiJung started to bow but the master simply waved it away and said that he didn’t want any of those formalities.

YiJung smile again.

WooBin and JiHoo were still a bit stunned from being addressed as princes by someone they had never met. At the same time, they were also trying to stop the waitress from staring at them with the same shocked expression.

“Master, could I buy back a bowl of seafood porridge for GaEul? She’s sick,” YiJung explained.

“GaEul’s sick?? Andweh! GaEul dan YiJung, gwenchana-yo??” Master asked, seeing that YiJung himself looked a little weak.

“Yeh, ahjusshi,” YiJung replied.

“Araso, please sit here and wait for a while, ok?” Master said.
“Araso,” YiJung said as he sat at the nearest table. On it was a model of the solar system, a few magazines on outer space and hypnotism. One even boasted of being able to teach people how to be psychic.

“He’s still the same,” YiJung thought to himself.

A few minutes passed and there was silence except for the squeals the young female waitress was making while she fawned over the three handsome customers.

*CLANG!*

The sound of a bowl being dropped came from the kitchen.

“HANYOUNG! GWENCHANA-YO!?!” A worried voice shouted.

YiJung shot straight up.

HANYOUNG!?!

“JanDi ah, don’t cry, we’ll find JiHan soon. We will. He’ll be back for dinner with us today.” JunPyo reassured JanDi and hugged her tightly.

They had just come out of the TV station where they had applied for advertisements to announce that JiHan was lost and that there would be a huge reward for whoever found him.

“I’m not crying JunPyo,” JanDi choked on her words as she turned to look the other way. A tear slid down her face.
