Chapter 31

Getting home

[Sorry for the late update today. I just found out a new Jdorama… It was oh so funny! And I had writer’s block. I’m currently listening to the music on Javabean’s blog and stoning. I mean, I’ve got it all planned out… but I don’t know how to start. *Stones again*]

“The sky looks so gloomy, like it’s gonna rain anytime soon… Mmm… the sound of the leaves coming alive sounds so beautiful…” JiHan thought to himself as he lay in between the bushes with his back lying on a layer of leaf litter while he faced upwards towards the grayish cloudy sky as the wing became stronger and stronger gradually, making the leaves surrounding him rustle. His scooter was just beside him.

“HanYoung ah, how are you? It’s been a week now. Appa and Omma must be frantic… I’ve seen the advertisements on TV… but HanYoung, I must find you,” JiHan spoke to himself. “But, how long would that take? My scooter is already quite low on power. HanYoung, have you reached home yet?”

JiHan’s stomach growled suddenly.

“Ah… I’m hungry… I should go now,” JiHan thought as he turned on his side and rose to his feet. He took the scarf on the dangling on the handle of the motorbike and wrapped it around his neck, mouth and nose. Next, he took the woolen cap and pulled it over his head such that it also covered his eyebrows.

“Nice,” JiHan thought. “I doubt any one would recognize me in this get up. Thank goodness I won that bet and put the money here.”

“JiHan ah, I bet I’m going to win this game! Are you on?” JunPyo shouted to his son who was at his side. They were both fighting it out on the latest Xbox 360 black elite premium which had not even hit the stores yet in the old F4 hangout. That’s what money can do for you.

“Yah, Appa, don’t be so cocky! I might beat you just yet! Okay! We’ll bet on $500, okay? U.S. dollars!” JiHan replied while he continued punching the buttons on the wireless controller furiously in an indecipherable order. His fingers were moving much too quick for the ordinary person to see.

“No way. I’ve been playing this game for sev– YAH! YAH!”

“YESH!! I WON! Appa, you owe me US$500. I want it in Korean won please.” JiHan demanded and stretched his arm towards JunPyo and open his hand as a gesture or demanding money.

“Aish, you brat. That doesn’t count! Now let’s play again!” JunPyo retorted, refusing to admit defeat.

“Yah! Appa!” JiHan shouted.

“JiHan ah? JunPyo?” came JanDi’s voice from the stairs.

“ Omo! If your Omma ever finds out that we were playing this game AGAIN, she’d strangle us! JiHan ah! Change the channel!” JunPyo fretted and reached for the remote control to the television which was lying on the other side of JiHan.

“Aniyo. You’re the one who’s gonna be strangled not me. I can just act innocent and pin the blame on you. Pay me my US$500 first,” JiHan teased as he snatched the remote control and held it tight and close to him.

“JiHan ah! JunPyo!! Yah! You two ShinHwa royalties!” came JanDi’s voice again, only this time, it became louder.

“Aish! You rude son! You money minded kid! FINE! Here!” JunPyo hissed and took a whole wad of money from his wallet and dumped it on JiHan’s lap. “It’s no doubt that you’re a son of the Gu family… crafty as hell…”

“Well, it’s indeed in the family! Well, Appa, goodbye!” JiHan said as he switched the channel and crawled into the space under the pool table just as JanDi entered the room.

“Yah! GU JUNPYO! WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING!?!” JiHan heard his mother shriek as he crept out of the room, pausing only once to sneak a look at the television. Ooops… The screen showed a man pushing a woman onto the bed… JiHan smirked to himself as he slipped the wad of cash into his sweater.

“Yeh, ajumma, Kansahamnida,” came JiHan’s muffled voice as he paid for the food and walked off to the streets out there where there were some benches on which he could sit on and eat his food.

JiHan walked to his favourite seat, just outside an electronics shop where televisions were displayed at the windows. It provided him some entertainment while he ate to get energy to find HanYoung again. Oh, it was showing Cinderella man now… JiHan watched the television and ate at the same time. It was mildly entertaining and fun to watch, but nothing like those funny cartoons he watched at home.

“Ah… so Kwon SangWoo played a double role in this drama? Oh…” JiHan thought as he watched the programme. “Eh? Commercial break. Well, I guess it can’t be helped, since TV stations still need to earn money. But it sure is irritating though, isn’t it? Ah, what’s that? Is that HANYOUNG?!?”

JiHan stopped eating completely and sat up real straight. The passersby also stopped in their tracks and stared at the televisions, recognizing the girl which was all over the papers just yesterday. Wait… so she’s been found and is now on television!?!

They saw HanYoung’s beautiful face dominate the screens of the televisions. “Annyeong-ha-sho-sso-yo, HanYoung imnida. I got lost the past few days and had just recently returned home safely yesterday. I read the cards some of you sent to my mother. Thank you for your concern. But now, I want to call upon my best friend to come home now because he ran away. JiHan ah, come home now. I’ll wait for you at our Kindergarten. JiHan-oppa, come home now, please.”

And with that, the message ended and a clean and clear advertisement came up.

Some of the passersby looked at JiHan.

“Shoots! Why are they looking at me? Maybe I should cover my face again,” JiHan thought as he reached to pull his scarf back up. “Oh HanYoung ah, how in the world would I know where the Kindergarten is?

JiHan scrambled off the bench and threw his unfinished dinner into the bin nearby and climbed up his scooter again.

“Yah, how do I get there?”
