Tei is attending the Xman recording today. Tei is such a good friend. We are very alike… but people who don’t know the real me will think we are extremes. We pretend that we like each other so the producers let us partner each other in game shows.
“That Seung Gi boy, is he really into you?” Tei whispered to me.
“He is my new love item on script” I whispered back
“I think he likes you”
“I like him too” I gave him a joking look.
“Can you be serious? I can tell he really likes you a lot”
“That is exactly what he needs to act out… looks like he has already convinced you!”
“I don’t think it is just acting. You should make it clear to him”
“You can do it for me.”
“That is so convenient. Am I pretending to be your boyfriend again?”
“I’m just kidding. He’s young. He is just trying his best in the show. Leave the poor boy alone”
Seung Gi is indeed a hardworking boy. Starting out at such a young age, sometimes I wonder if that is the reason he is so matured. I do like this Dongseng, he is so different from the other young kids.
Seung Gi:
Looking at Chae Yeon nuna and Tei whispering to each other really makes me uncomfortable.
“Seung Gi, do you have a moment” Tei suddenly called on me backstage. “I heard that Chae Yeon and you are acting out a romance stage on Xman” Why does he not call her Nuna? “I just wanted to let you know that what is on stage shall stay on stage. Don’t try anything on Chae Yeon. She is not suitable for you. He left as soon as he finished speaking.
Try anything on her? What does he mean? And who is he to tell me what to do? Are they an item?
Chae Yeon Nuna… She was sitting there patiently waiting for recording to start. Her brown hair tied up in two pony tails, as she watched the production crew arrange the set up. Looking at her, I have the sudden impulse to want to stroke her hair, watch her smile, hold her in my arms.
That night, my thoughts were all about her. I went online to her cyworld, and noticed that she is actively uploading some pictures. I decided to call her
Chae Yeon:
Once again there are so many hate mails from jong kook oppa’s fans. Tidying up my cyworld can take up hours of my time. It is almost 3am, but I am in no mood to sleep. Just as I was playing with my phone, he called
“Hello?”
“It’s me, Seung Gi”
“Is there anything? It is so late already”
“I wanted to say good night to you…but… you sound wide awake”
“Yes… I could not get to sleep”
“Same here…”
“Why are you not able to sleep?”
“Me? I’m thinking of a girl”

“Hmm? Tei is just a friend” I was beginning to feel sleepy
“Nuna are you falling asleep soon?”
“I think so…you should turn in soon”
“Don’t hang up… let me accompany you…”
I did not hang up.. I left the phone on my pillow, it felt nice, nice to know that someone is around. After a while, I fell asleep.
Seung Gi:
I laid there for at least an hour, holding on to the phone listening to nothing. She must be asleep by now. I thought about a lot of things, mostly about Nuna. I’m thankful that she likes me, that she does not avoid me, but …. Can I love her?
Music Bank recording
Standing in my performance suit back stage, I looked at the live telecast of the performance on stage. Chae Yeon just gave the camera a wink. She never fails to amaze me with her cuteness. I sat at a corner reading my textbooks, preparing for class later this evening.
She came up behind me and cupped my eyes with her hands.
“Guess who” she said in a high pitched voice.
“My love” I held on to her hands and turned around. It was not difficult sensing it was her. There is this scent that she has that is so distinct. I refused to let go of her tiny hands and gave her a smile.
“Do you say that to everyone?” She said that as she tried to get away from me
“Only to my Nuna” I let go of her.
“I need a favor”
“Anything for you…” I was so excited, hearing that she needs a favor from me
“An autograph please. For my niece. Her name is Jessica” She asked sweetly
“How old is your niece?” A thought suddenly surfaced in my mind
“Almost 12. She just started idolizing singers and she has become your fan”
“Why don’t you take her out? We could go to the beach or something”
Nuna just stood there thinking, while I wait anxiously for her respond.
“How about later? She asked excitedly.
“Today it shall be!” I have decided to skip my evening class for her.
After the recording ended, I drove her to her niece’s residence, only to find out that Jessica has been grounded by her parents. Chae Yeon came out of the house looking disappointed.
“What did Jessica did wrong?” I pretended to be concern as I tried to hide my excitement.
“She got into a fight with some boys in her class.”
“Oh… its okay, we can go out with her another time, I’m always free for you. Do you want to go for dinner?” I gave her a big grin
“Just the 2 of us?”
“Please?… I’m very hungry”
“Ok, I’m hungry too…”
Ordering from my favorite BBQ take out restaurant, we picked up the food and headed to the beach. It was a weekday evening and there were hardly anyone. She insisted on buying soju. According to her, BBQ is not complete without soju.
We sat on the trunk of the SUV and had dinner. It was serene and peaceful, with the sea breeze gently blowing at us. Nuna drank quite a lot, actually, she drank up all the soju. I am not a good drinker, so I decided to not take any, it is safer for driving too.
“Nuna, why do you like to drink?”
She looked at me with her now rosy cheeks
“He loved to drink soju, when he was still around, we will sit by the beach and talk for hours”
“Who is he?”
“My boyfriend” I was stunned
“Your boyfriend… do I know him?”
She shook her head and took another sip of wine.
“Where is he now?”
“People tell me he is in heaven, but he promised that he won’t leave me alone. I believe him. After he left, no one allowed me to talk about him. They didn’t let me keep the things he gave me. But in my heart, he is still there.
She started tearing. The breeze was starting to get chilly. I took of my jacket and wrapped it around her. Her body felt so soft and tiny.
“I’m sorry … Nuna, you can talk to me about him.. What is his name?”
She finally looked up and place the wine aside. Her eyes still teary and swollen.
“Tae Min Oppa… He was your age when I met him. I agreed to marry him. I told him to wait till I turn 24. It was my fault, I should not have let him wait. Maybe he won’t die if we get married. We will be so happy that heaven would not want to take him away”
She looked so fragile, as I held her in my arms, so afraid that she might disappear.
“Seung Gi, I miss him a lot…I feel so alone…”
“Tae Min shi is a very lucky man. He occupied your heart for so many years. But its time to make some space for another person. I whispered to her and kissed her forehead. “Give me a chance to love you. Can I?”
She didn’t reply. She fell softly asleep in my arms
Chae Yeon:
I woke up feeling a little dizzy, it is very dark, I hear soft music playing in the background. I looked around and realized that everything looked strange. The bed I’m on has dark colored duvets, not my regular pink sheets. I’m not in my PJs either, I’m still in the clothes I wore to Music Bank. I got out of bed and out the bed room. I saw Seung Gi resting on the couch. Ah.. This must be his apartment. I wandered around barefooted and explored his apartment. For a young boy living alone, this is very clean. I looked at the clock, it is already 5am. What a weird hour. I sent a message to my assistant, informing her that I’ll meet her in office directly.
“How are you feeling” Seung Gi suddenly spoke
Feeling embarrassed about being in a Dong Seng’s apartment, I blushed.
“I’m sorry for last night. I must have troubled you a lot”
“You were no trouble… why are you up so early? Is the bed uncomfortable? Was the music too loud?” He was very concerned. “I didn’t know where you live, and I was afraid of causing you trouble if I called the company, so I brought you here”
“I had a good rest, thank you. Do you live alone here?”
“I live here on weekdays; it is closer to my university and office. My manager lives in the next block”
“Ah…again, thanks for last night. I drank too much. I hope I didn’t create a scene…” I joked. I do not remember if I did anything stupid, but I did remember crying a lot. Why did I cry?
“Nuna, you don’t have to be like a stranger, so cautious towards me. I hope that you will look for me if you need someone to talk to, or accompany you.” I felt very uneasy when he said that. I don’t want him to have romantic feelings for me. He is a Dongseng.
“I should get going, it is almost sunrise” I wanted to escape.
“Let me send you, it is impossible getting a cab at this time in this area” He put on a jacket, place one on me, grabbed his keys and opened the door.
We remained silent for a long time…finally when we reached my office, he broke the silence
“Nuna, I hope you don’t avoid me, I never wanted to cause you any unhappiness. Yesterday… I will always remember yesterday, it is very special to me. I just want to be your friend, a person you can talk to. I’m harmless, really. Please don’t be afraid of me”
I looked at him, he is indeed harmless. He is just a boy, maybe I was too hostile to him earlier. I gave Seung Gi a smile and pat his head like a Nuna
“I won’t be afraid of you… you will always be my good dongseng. Nuna will take care of you. See you later during Xman!”
“I’m a man, I will take care of Nuna.” He said sternly and he pulled my hand off his head.
Seung Gi is such a sweet boy. I worry too much, for unnecessary reasons. He looked so hurt this morning, I should not have made him upset. What a horrible Nuna I am.
