Michelle walked half heartedly with her bag swinging by her side.
“Mich!” a hand pulled her from behind, saving her just time from stepping onto a road where a speeding car zoomed by.
Turning around she found herself facing Raymond. “Hey, thanks.”
“No prob, I’ve been calling after you for quite some time… What are you thinking…?” Raymond asked.
“I…” Michelle started but then bit back her words. You…?
“Hmm want to go for a drink?” he asked and she nodded.

They entered the noisy bar and ordered their drinks.
“Wanna dance?” Raymond nodded towards the crowded dance floor after their silent drinking of about half an hour.
Surprisingly Michelle agreed. Raymond took her hand and they began dancing wildly with the rhythm. The crowd was getting rowdier and Michelle felt the some repeating harass from the guy behind her. She was about to move away, when the guy spun around to catch her by the waist, pulling her close to him.
“Dance with me babe… Oh you’re hot…” he sneered seeing her beautiful face, rudely caressing her body with his. Michelle tried to push him away but his grip was too tight. And he moved fast to land his wet lips on Michelle’s face. Michelle kicked him from under and slapped him squarely across the face. Raymond who had been trying to fight the crowd out of his way to Michelle’s rescue finally landed his fist on the guy’s face.
The crowd was soon aware of the fight and backed off a good distant, cheering on the fight.
“F*ck you,” he cried in pain.
Raymond charged forward to the guy who bent over in pain and caught him up by the collar. He was about to give him a few more blows when Michelle caught him by the sleeves.
“Don’t Ray… It’s enough,” she said hurriedly.
“Apologize!” Raymond demanded the guy pointing towards Michelle.
They guy shrugged off Raymond’s grip furiously. Apparently, his gang had already turned up for his rescue. They were mocking at Raymond and Michelle. The crowd was doing nothing but cheering on the spectacular fight.
Michelle tried her best to pull Raymond back. “Don’t you dare…” Michelle warned at the taunting men.
“I’m Michelle Yip, an attorney…” she said. “I can sue you for this…”
“Oooh, she threatens… Love it babe!” one of the guy reached for Michelle’s face but Raymond pushed him away. The three guys circled Raymond and began beating him up. Michelle watched in despair and took out her phone to call the police but the man who had harassed her snatched it away.
Michelle spun around to find herself trapped between the fight and the jeering guy.
“Bloody hell, you kicked the hell out of me and you’re paying bitch!” he spat at her face. He made a grab for her but Raymond had already got up from the fight and pulled her behind him.
Michelle was shocked to see Raymond’s face bruised badly, and so were his hands. His nose was bleeding. Michelle was frantic and lost at what to do as they were cornered by the 4 jeering men. Suddenly, there were a gang of men from behind and began beating up the four.
“Louis…?” Michelle saw the figure appearing form behind.
“Are you alright?” he asked the two of them. They both nodded.
The four men had made a dash for the exit and the gang followed the suit. Louis went after them too, and before Michelle could pull him back, Raymond was off too. Michelle picked up her phone from the floor and chased after them.
“Ray! Louis!” she called frantically, but they were too far to hear her cries.
By the time she had reached the corner, she saw Raymond sprawling on the ground his head bleeding profusely in shatters of broken glass bottles. He was groaning. Louis was cowering nervously over him. The others were nowhere in sight.
“Oh my God! Ray! Ray!” Michelle cried frantically.
Louis reached for her handphone and dialed the emergency number. He pushed it to Michelle’s ear. “Call for an ambulance.” he said and dashed out of sight.

“Mich…” Ray did not want to let go of her hand as the nurses and doctors pushed Raymond hurriedly along the hospital corridors.
“Yes Ray? I’m here… you’ll be alright okay…” she stammered fearfully as she rushed along with him.
“Can you… give me some… faith?” he asked faintly. Michelle watched Raymond who fought to sputter his words and grimaced in pain once in a while. Michelle nodded and ‘gave’ him her faith. She placed her hand on his chest where he held it tightly.
Just as they were entering the operating theatre, Raymond blurted, “Will you marry me Mich?”
Michelle was stunned by his words. She did not know if she had heard right, but their hands soon forced apart as she was held back by the nurse on duty. She stood watching Raymond pushed into the operating theatre and disappearing as the doors swayed shut.

“Mich! How’s Raymond?!” Tavia cried when she saw Michelle leaning against the wall. Michelle’s blood-stained top and pants were not helping her to calm down.
“I… I don’t know…” she replied faintly. “He’s still inside…”
“What happened?!” Kenneth asked Michelle. Michelle slumped a little and swayed to fall to the floor but Vicki caught her by the arms. Michelle shrugged her off and leaned on the wall finding her way towards the nearby bench.
Alec did not say anything but looked on questioningly.
“Hey, I think Mich’s tired… let’s give her some time off okay,” Niki came to her rescue.
Just then the operating theatre’s light went off, and the doctors came out. They all crowded the doctors and nurses.
“He’s alright, don’t worry,” he assured them and they all heaved a sigh of relief in unison.

“Ray!” Michelle put aside the bouquet of fresh flower she had brought for him upon seeing him awake. His head was thickly bandaged. She did not seem aware of Mr. Lam standing at the other corner of the room.
“Mich…” he said smiling.
“You scare the hell out of me! Why did you run after them? Look what you’ve gotten yourself into!” she cried at him.
“It’s worth it,” he replied slowly as the bandages were restricting his jaws. They didn’t realize they were holding each other’s hand tightly. “Those dirty jerks…”
Mr. Lam stepped forward and cleared his throat. Michelle startled at his appearance, suddenly realizing their hands holding together and pulled hers away immediately.
“Hello uncle,” she greeted.
Mr. Lam scanned her from head to toe, nodding in approval. “Now I understand why he’d fight. For such a beauty… it’s definitely worth it huh son?”
“Dad…!” Raymond cried in vexation.
“I’m leaving. Take your time Ms. Yip,” Mr. Lam bid farewell and left them alone.
Raymond smiled awkwardly at Michelle. “My dad…”
“Feeling better?” she asked more formally, keeping her distance from Raymond.
Raymond felt a surge of disappointment but did not say more. He nodded smiling at the angel of his eyes. He would have fought again if given the chance. His blood boiled recalling the man who harassed Michelle. He felt his throat a little dry and tried to reach for the glass beside him but his bandages proved far more restricting that he expected.
“Oh let me get it for you, Egyptian mummy. You’re clumsy like a bear with all that,” Michelle offered. She poured a glass of water and handed it to him.
He pouted childishly. “I’m hurt here… for you! Mind feeding me a bit?”
Michelle snorted but stepped forward to serve the big baby his water. Raymond suddenly pulled her close to him. Their faces were just inches away. Raymond stared into Michelle’s eyes. Michelle thought her heart was thumping out of her rib cage.
“Did you hear…?” Raymond asked softly.
“Huh…” Michelle not understanding his meaning.
“Did you hear what I asked you before entering the operating theatre?” Raymond not giving Michelle a chance to act blur.
“I… I…” Michelle did not know what to reply.
“Is it a shock to you? Too sudden? But it’s not for me. You didn’t leave my heart, not ever, not since I saw you the first day in Oxford’s. Not even when you went with Wallace. I prayed for you, but now… I’m destined to love you forever…” Raymond poured the words he had been keeping at the bottom of his heart.
“Ray…” Michelle was touched by his words, and his deeds. She could no longer deny him right away like she had always done because she seemed to begin doubting.
“Will you give us a chance?” he asked earnestly peering at Michelle who was avoiding his eyes.
Michelle did not reply, but Raymond pulled her into his embrace kissing her forehead lightly. Michelle settled into his hold. She had never been this close to Raymond before… it felt unexpectedly soothing and secure…
